WestJet converts to metric time
YouTube ^ | April 1, 2014

Effective today, WestJet is changing the way we display our flight schedules, switching from our current system of "a.m." and "p.m." to metric time. For more information visit http://fly.ws/Metric-time.

Reminds me of my high school physics teacher, who would keep his students on his toes by giving out exams with typical physics problems, but with the added stipulation that the results had to be converted to some ridiculous unit of measurement.

All these years later, I still remember a projectile motion problem where the final velocity of the object had to be calculated and shown in furlongs per fortnight. LOL.

Which is the reason you always carry the units/metric* along with the numbers. Ain't science fun¿ Chow for paragraph eater.

* That which specifies what the numbers signify.

Or, as I read in a work of fiction recently (where the author clearly didn’t have a grasp of the concept):

‘Mission departs at oh-1800 hours...’

I think he was just unsure as to the departure time.

“Mission departs at... oh... uh... 1800 hours”

Reminds me of the “metric system videos” that we watched in school.

They came to the measurement of time, and the actors’ excuse for not changing time to a metric analog was that it “was too inconvenient and people are used to measuring time in the non-metric way”.

Of course, no one saw the irony of that as applied to length, volume, temperature, etc.

The metric system allows bureaucrats to count on their fingers and toes.

Hhaving been in the (US) Armed Forces I have no problem with “metric” time.In fact, every clock and watch I have that can be set that way is.I know...or at least suspect...that I'm in the minority on this issue here in the US but I'm accustomed to being in the minority. Also,I do a fair bit of international travel so when I see “15:45” on an airport departure board I'm not gonna miss my flight....except,maybe,because I've spent too much time at the airport bar! ;-)

Regarding “metric”...one of the reasons I enjoy driving in Canada so much is that I can do 100 legally.Or at least I thought so until a “constable” handed me a ticket on “the 401” one day.

Westjet has some good deals and unique ideas that they implement each April 1. Of course this year they introduced Metric Time . Last year they introduced their Furry Family program, where you can bring your pets on board with you, rather than in the baggage section. In 2012, they introduced Kargo Kids which allowed for child-free cabins, providing a much needed break for overstressed parents. In 2011, they introduced helium on all flights as a cost savings measure. Since helium weighs less than air, the fuel required for the jet to take off is reduced, a savings passed on to the consumer!

Just how many metric hours does April 1st last?

If we go to metric months can we just do away with it?
