Some Ohio State University students are upset that they had no say in picking this years spring commencement speaker, a break with past practice.
Provost Joseph Steinmetz and his Office of Academic Affairs alone decided to invite MSNBC talk-show host Chris Matthews to speak at the May 4 ceremony at Ohio Stadium. In the past, the university asked a committee of students and staff for a recommendation. This year, there wasnt time, OSU officials said.
Because of time constraints and leadership changes during the past year, the decision was made to use a more streamlined approach to speaker selection for spring 2014 commencement, OSU spokesman Gary Lewis said in an email.
Amid the search for a new president and other shuffles in top jobs, Steinmetz and his office made the final decision, Lewis said.
News that Matthews will speak hasnt been well-received among students, said Taylor Stepp, president of the undergraduate student government. Complaints about Matthewss liberal views are common, Stepp said, but students are equally upset that the university didnt draw a bigger name.

What? Ed Schultz wasn’t available? Rachel Maddow? Yeah, if I’m a president at a major university MSNBC is the last place I’d be looking for a commencement speaker.

If Matthews does end up speaking at the commencement it will be the largest viewing audience he’s had in years.
That’ll end up being an hour and a half of Hissy Chrissy talking about the love of his life Zero. *PAIN*

I didn't attend my commencement due to the choice of speaker and don't regret it, but I still regret their choice of speaker.

It would appear "Provost" needs to be one of the "shuffles."

With a reported total of 63,964 students, I doubt all or even most OSU graduates attend graduations. If they all walked at graduation, the ceremony would probably take days if not weeks.

One of the mass media's most notorious crack-pot airheads--the male Nancy Pelosi.
It is not only students who will be upset about this choice. Ohio State, after all, is a major Ohio institution.
Now just what could this babbling head have to offer the student body?

I agree, but sadly these students have Moms, Dad,Grandparents and others that have waited years to celebrate a child's achievement and leave to some liberal retards to stain that memory with someone like chrisytingel.

How sad that this graduation date sneaked up on them without proper planning for the commencement speaker. Makes me want to puke!

With a graduating class for all degrees of probably 10,000, each college will hold separate ceremonies. The law school, the college of engineering, the graduate college, and so forth. The college of arts and sciences will probably have 3000 students.
I’d prefer to see them stand and turn their backs to him as he speaks.

Will they have EMTs standing by in case Lil Chrissy gets a thrill up his leg as he's speaking?
