Michael Moore: General Motors 'criminals' deserve death
washingtonexaminer.com ^ | 4/1/14 | Charlie Spiering

Posted on 04/01/2014 8:59:38 AM PDT by ColdOne

Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore believes that whoever was responsible at General Motors for failing to recall a faulty ignition switch deserves death.

"I am opposed to the death penalty, but to every rule there is usually an exception, and in this case I hope the criminals at General Motors will be arrested and made to pay for their pre-meditated decision to take human lives for a lousy ten bucks," he wrote.

Moore blamed former President George W. Bush's transportation Department for ignoring the problem in 2007 and praised new GM CEO Mary Barra for telling the truth about the problem.

Moore is true garbage. He talks about looking out for the little folks while fishing around in their pockets for change and then turns around and soaks up taxpayer funding where ever it can be found.

This is hillarious.

GM appoints a woman as CEO and SURPISE, they have to recall a couple of million cars. Now little missy can go in front of those mean old republicans and say....I didn't know..

When they appointed her I told my wife it was political and now I see why.

Added bonus...we all own GM so the cost for this fiasco had direct bearing on the fed budget.

C’mon you knee jerkers, just give you the Michael Moore hot button and you totally bail on the actual issue Moore brings up- corporate responsibility for their fkuc ups. Jeffrey Dahmer kills a half dozen people and he gets the clank hotel and a jailhouse assassination. CEO of Profit Line, Inc. kills a dozen people and gets a new yacht and a golden parachute. Something wrong with this and you know it.

But, if he has health problems, he can go to Cuba and be treated there by their excellent communist healthcare system.

I agree. Anyone who knew that those cars could kill people is an accessory to the deaths. There's no room for thinking which allows an "acceptable level of risk" to protect the business.

It's GM in this case that justified Michael Moore's always-extreme stance about corporate evil.

Finally, Creosote, still unsated after consuming everything in sight, decided to have a desert mint. Michael, may I offer YOU, just one, wafer thin mint? BABOOOOOM! Problem solved.

Someone should let Michael know that the NHTSA was contacted about this issue every year since 2006. Which means Bush's NHTSA had three years to react to this situation. But, MM's precious Obama Admin has had OVER FIVE YEARS to review, investigate and react! So, why didn't Obama get an admonishment as well?

Oh, I forgot, of course MM would NEVER let a good opportunity to impugn Bush go to waste!!

I am sorry, but this is not JUST caused by a faulty ignition switch.

All the ignition switch problems were caused by people who had too much weight on their key chain or people who ride the steering wheel with their knees hitting the ignition switch. When you hit the steering wheel or the keys pull enough, the car switches to the “accessories” position, killing the engine and losing power assist; the steering wheel was still moveable and the brakes still worked! The deaths were caused because people do not know how to drive cars without power steering and power brakes!

The first death in this entire situation was a woman not wearing her seatbelt, somehow caused the ignition switch to turn to the “accessories” position (which also turns off the airbags), lost control of her car (which it is my understanding from Driver’s Ed you must ALWAYS maintain control of your vehicle) and wrecked!

I am sorry for the loss of her life, but what if she had ran out of gas? Wouldn’t she lose power steering and power brakes? If she wrecked because she lost control of her vehicle due to running out of gas, would that death be less important to her family? Of course, because they couldn’t blame it on GM and they couldn’t get a large cash settlement from them?

I've been thinking about what you wrote. I assume it's correct, as I would not have any of the knowledge it would take to refute it.

I don't think that excuses them at all. Upon buying that car, people should be told "no bulky keychains". The airbag not working when the car is still moving is not a good situation. I always thought it released on any impact, and it should. People should be informed "what to do if the ignition shuts down" as part of of the walk-through of a new car.

One thing I insist on which isn't part of the sales routine is besides a test drive to have a passenger drive, when I'm the passenger while the salesperson describes what one should be aware of when driving the car. It's an idea that's served me well.

Yes, GM has a responsibility. Even if (as you say) these accidents are usually avoidable, information needs to go to the consumer so the driver knows how to avoid them.

Actually, as early as 2005 or 2006, GM notified owners that they should not have bulky, heavy weight items on their key-chains.

And, in my driver’s ed class, we were taught what to do if you lose power in your vehicle while driving. I figured that everyone had such training.

Of course, additional information and training never hurt anyone, but I am saying that yes, GM has SOME responsibility, but I don’t think they own 100% of the responsibility.

What is the “required” weight capacity of an ignition switch? I mean, if a driver wants to hang a 5 pound weight from it, should GM be required to meet that standard?

If that had been specified, would it have avoided this situation? If that's the case, it's amazing nobody did that.

There is no set requirement, because who the hell knows what some idiot may hang on their key-chain! All the while, it has to be loose enough that a 90+year old weakling can turn it with ease and start the car.

Exactly how do you figure that “standard?”

The person who wants to hang pictures, keyfobs, mementos, store passes, etc... is going to need a switch that will handle 25 pounds of resistance.

The 90+ year old weakling needs it to have no more than a 2-5 pound resistance.

"I hope someone in the Obama administration will get out the handcuffs, the SWAT teams, or the U.S. army if need be, march into GM headquarters in downtown Detroit and haul away anyone who is there who had anything to do with this," he said. "And if they already left town, hunt them down and bring them in to face justice."

Moore thinks Obama should be the prosecutor instead of the defendant. What a hypocrite!

>>I am sorry, but this is not JUST caused by a faulty ignition switch.

Read my lips- GM knew there was a fault causing deaths, accepted the risk as “collateral damage” and stonewalled any concerns over a switch that was poorly designed to SAVE MONEY. Simply not acceptable behavior by any CEO or Dept. head. This is moral turpitude and qualifies for social censure and punishment.

Why conservatives give the libs free reign on these issues is utterly beyond me. Malfeasance is malfeasance. Our head in the sand lets them kick us in the butt every time.

No this is a real problem in modern cars. All manuals say to hold down the brake pedal during emergency stop. When the ignition switch in these cars rotated to off position, these vehicles also lost ABS. So all of the touted safety features of the car were disabled all at once. The power going out also disables the airbag.

Neither ABS nor Airbag would be disabled if the ignition switch had remained in ON position, even if the motor was no longer operative, such as running out of gas.

Also, it is not clear what size keychain could trigger the issue. In supposed violent accidents, even minor keychains could trigger the issue.

Unless the GM User Manual covered the ignition key problem, they should be screwed, blued, and tattooed over this, period.
