Conservative grassroots shocks Team Cantor in his own district with surprise intra-party victory

Conservative activists caught political operatives working for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor by surprise on his own front porch on Monday evening, storming their way to victory against the GOP establishment in Virginia at a local party meeting.

Around 5:45 p.m. Monday, March 24 swaths of conservatives marched into the Henrico Board of Supervisors Meeting Room in Henrico, Virginia—inside Cantor’s congressional district. They were there for the Henrico Republican Mass Meeting, something both Cantor and his conservative primary challenger Dave Brat, an economics professor at Randolph-Macon College, had been pushing their respective supporters to attend.

The meeting, Virginia activists say, had morphed into a surprise proxy battle because of a series of recent incidents in which GOP party officials departed from tradition and excluded dozens of conservative activists from attending local party conventions. The practice has been named “slating” and has come up in other states' GOP party chapters sought to exclude acolytes of Rep. Ron Paul.

Party officials, including top Cantor hands, were accused of slating at a March 10 meeting in Virginia Beach where 32 moderate, hand-selected Republicans were chosen for an upcoming convention instead of hundreds who had been eligible in years past.

“They ramrodded through votes to replace the list of 1000+ with a list of 32 moderates to carry the entire vote to the convention to ensure Eric Cantor’s ally State Senator Frank Wagner would be elected 2nd District chairman instead [of conservative Curtis Colgate],” said Brat campaign adviser John Pudner.

GOP State Party Chairman Pat Mullins even criticized slating in a Facebook post in late March, saying “it’s time to quit excluding and slating Republicans and time to start beating Democrats!” he wrote.

From the article:

In an interview, Moulton ripped Cantor for working against conservative activists.

“I don’t understand why Eric Cantor is picking such a public fight with the conservatives in his own base,” Moulton said. “The Tea Party, the Liberty movement, pro-life conservatives, pro-gun activists. It just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me and I think in Henrico County and big group of them said that we weren’t going to take this anymore,” Moulton said.

“We need a unifying conservative Republican base to win elections and this divisiveness of Ray Allen, his consultant, is really, really very, very divisive, very disenfranchising, and really not helpful to them,” he added.

Brat aide Pudner called it a “stunning development gives further evidence of the surprise vulnerability of the re-election bid of the Majority Leader.”

Cantor and Brat will face-off in a June 10 primary election, and the Henrico meeting Monday has no direct impact on that race. But Pudner said it was nonetheless a sign of Cantor's weakness with only a little more than two months before primary day.

“Any polling about this race?”

Haven’t seen any. But you can bet after this a poll will be commissioned and the result will undoubtably be (as it is in every other race) “Cantor crushing his primary opponent!”

Mark Levin had a caller yesterday exposing Cantor for working with Democrats, using his PAC to defeat conservatives in VA.

This Cantor guy is a douche bag.

I live in IL so hate to comment on other people’s Senators ;-)

But it seems that this Cantor is a really slippery dude who love the game of “reach-across” and the DC party circuit with his “good friends” from the most exclusive club in the world. So I hope VA can find a way to deal with him, and we’ll keep work against his democrat counterpart, Dirtbin...

This is why the RNC immediately changed the convention rules after the 2012 national convention, to make it all but impossible for grassroots groups to be delegates in 2016. The delegates will all be vetted by the moderate/business mossbacks in the RNC. This guarantees the demise of the Republican Party, of course.

Seriously?? ya think maybe because Cantor is a DC insider criminal?? Moulton should have just alluded to that fact.

In the last Republican convention, new rules were enacted to push out conservatives by the Rockefeller liberals that call themselves “THE Establishment” . They are nothing but RINOs and get ready for more bad rules , especially in the “delegate selection” process. They are ruining the credibility of the entire process. They don’t like “grass roots” conservatives. Fortunately their candidates suck and they are heading for some real butt kicking by real conservatives.

Locking up our Border would be an Economic Boom Because we wouldn’t be spending our Tax-Payer dollars on paying for the worlds health care.

This whole Obamacare gag was created to do just that.To allow non U.S. Citizens to get care in the U.S. Free of charge.

These illegals are probably part of the 30 million plus uninsured that thus administration keeps talking about.Since it seems that the 30 million still haven’t applied for the insurance yet. What are they waiting for?

Good conservatives all over the USA need to learn from this victory in VA. Conservatives have been shunning local GOP party meeting as we felt the guys in charge were ignoring our views. Yes, they were but the best tactic is to show up in numbers and TAKE OVER, REPLACE the RINOs. Push good conservatives as delegates and candidates and maybe we won’t have to hold our noses to vote at the polls next time.

My understanding was that they changed the rules just before the convention to prevent Ron Paul’s dirty little scheme to get unbound electors to vote for him.

The elder Paul lost any respect I may have ever had for him with that bit of dirty pool.

It’s sad that so many FReepers and Conservatives forget that fact and tear into any of us who advise that elections are moot - and rigged to ensure the Ruling Class Statists are always ‘selected’.

We are BEYOND elections to save what is left of Republicanism and liberty in this country.

But I guess nothing is worth fighting for in this country, unless it’s homosexual marriage and ‘tolerance’.

This Cantor guy is a douche bag.

The scary part is that the GOPe will want to make him Speaker Douche Bag come 2015.

“I don’t understand why Eric Cantor is picking such a public fight with the conservatives in his own base,”

I think it is because Rino’s have an inbred propensity towards losing battles.

Cantor, nothing but a sock puppet. All these RINOs need to be removed and sent packing. I bet if they would lose they would run as libtard demonkrats.
