Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas did not announce his walkout from the negotiations with Israel or directly turn down the package of far-reaching Israeli concessions which US Secretary of State John Kerry assembled with Binyamin Netanyahu early Wednesday, April 1. He simply turned his back on the commitment he made ahead of the talks to refrain from unilateral applications to UN bodies while they were in progress. As soon as the US Secretary flew off to Brussels, he sent out applications for the independent Palestinian state to join 12 UN agencies as members.
This was after the Palestinian leader upped his price for meeting Kerrys request to extend peace diplomacy from April up until the end of the year. He demanded that Israel raise the number of 26 Palestinians due to be released from jail this weekend, to 1,000. They must also include Israeli Arabs.
He was not satisfied with Israels offer to free another 400 terrorists and accept a partial settlement freeze; Israel must release the same number as it traded for Gilead Shalit, the Israeli hostage held by Hamas.
Abbas further insisted on top Palestinian terrorist operatives serving sentences for multiple murder be on the list of released pirsoners, including the notorious Marwan Barghouti (who is serving six life sentences for six murders), Ahmad Saadat, (who plotted the assassination of the Israeli cabinet minister Rehavam Zeevi) and the return to their homes of terrorists exiled as too dangerous to leave at large in the Palestinian territories.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu tried to calm the anger in his cabinet and the Israeli public over the bottomless Palestinian capacity for extortion. His associates said that he shared John Kerrys belief that buying another nine months for the negotiations would give the US-led peace track a good shot at running full course.
Abbas’ term of office ended about six years ago. He has no followers. He is a fiction we keep so there’s somebody to bargain with. But Abbas knows the moment he inks a deal he’s a dead man. Everybody knows this, yet we continue this kabuki theater. Why?
Kerry fails the Global Test.
The Palestinian Authority will do EVERYTHING THEY CAN to keep the Palestinians from getting a “Palestinian State” by way of an “agreement”.
They want to pretend to negotiate and agree to nothing - and try and get the U.N. to make it a “de facto” state by getting on every agency in the U.N. as if it were a state.

The “peace process” is now officially dead. Israel is now freed to respond to the Palestinian Arab unilateral moves in kind.
The PLO extortion showed Israelis it was not a peace partner. Nothing Israel could have done would have satiated the Palestinian Arab appetite for winning concessions at Israel’s expense.
By reneging on his commitments, Abu Bluff left both Kerry and Netanyahu holding the bag. But then again we all knew this day was coming.
So no peace treaty with Israel................ :( does this mean I might not be raptured in April?
They’ve had a whole series of “agreements” for the last two decades. I don’t think you’ll be seeing any kind of “final status” treaty anytime soon.
You’re welcome. Full article is at the link (it’s long so I excerpted but that didn’t come up for some reason).
Funny that 450 more terrorists (on top of the 78 murderers released in recent months) in return for 1 Israeli spy (who has spent 29 years in jail and is close to death) isn’t enough for the Palestinians. But we’ve seen this song and dance before from them.
Hay Jon Carry, yer surfing into the wind, or something...
Another success story for the mac daddy foreign policy.
This matter of an Islam/Israel peace is and has been nothing short of ridiculous. The Palestinian Muslims have garnered billions of dollars in payment from the USA and Europe tantalizing with the chance of peace, when in fact they have never ever planned to let it happen. They only sell their false words of hope to keep the money flowing. Peace with Israel is something to which they will never let happen. - talk, talk - gimme, gimme - a people steeped is deceitfulness
It is just unfathomable to me how the US pressures Israel to release any terrorists at all—let alone so many of them.
That’s tantamount to soaking our hands in Israeli blood every time we do so.
Abbas and the PLO do NOT want peace, they fear it. What they want is the Jews dead.
