MIDLAND, MI — Less than 24 hours after U.S. Rep. Dave Camp, R-Midland, announced he will not seek re-election in November, Midland's state senator announced he will run for Camp's seat.

State Sen. John Moolenaar, R-Midland, issued a press release Tuesday afternoon, April 1, stating he will seek election to represent Michigan's 4th Congressional District.

"I will be a strong conservative voice for the hard working families of mid and northern Michigan," Moolenaar said. "In Michigan I have fought against overreaching government policies that are killing jobs and overburdening individuals."

Camp announced late in the day Monday, March 31, that he will not seek re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives "after much consideration and discussion with my family." He has served in Congress 23 years, since his first election to the seat in 1991.

Moolenaar was one of many politicians at the state and national level to issue comments shortly after Camp's announcement Monday. The state senator called the congressman a "tireless advocate" for the region and a "champion for hard-working families."

Moolenaar said he would like to bring the "same common sense approach" he and other lawmakers have brought to Lansing, to the nation's capitol.

I see the guy running for Mike Shirkey's Michigan house seat is a "republican" who is attached to some pretty liberal causes like the Watershed council. ( Columbia Township Treasurer John Calhoun)

Columbia Twp. treasurer running for state House

Calhoun serves on the River Raisin Watershed Council executive board and is chairman of the Community Action Agency, serving Jackson, Lenawee and Hillsdale counties.

I don’t know if it is the case this time, but somebody coined an expression for a liberal running for office while pretending to be a conservative: a “conservative mimic”.
