When Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., pointed out that the majority of cancer centers in the country aren't covered under Obamacare while arguing that the law's problems go beyond early website issues, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., dismissed the critique as too "in the weeds."
Coburn, a medical doctor battling cancer, panned the coverage offered to cancer patients.
"Nineteen of the cancer centers in this country, only five are covered under Obamacare," he told the Washington Examiner Tuesday, a data point he attributed to the low payments the Affordable Care Act provides for those treatments.
"You know, it's a market, and what they've done is they've priced it where these cancer centers, a lot of them, aren't going to participate because they don't get paid to cover the costs," he said. Coburn, who is retiring at the end of this year, said his cancer center initially refused to accept the government health insurance, but has since reversed that policy.
Reid suggested that Coburn was taking too narrow a view of the law. "Dr. Coburn is very good at getting into the weeds and trying to find something that he thinks makes sense, but I think we need to look at the overall context of this bill," he replied when asked about Coburn's comments during a Senate press briefing. "It really brings a lot of people in from the cold so that they have the ability to get health insurance, which they've never had the opportunity [to do] before."
Reid hailed the White House's announcement that seven million people had enrolled in insurance through Obamacare, but Coburn said the statistic is a "numbers game."
"You had six million who lost their insurance, how many net new people got covered? How many who lost their insurance don't have insurance today?" Coburn asked. "And is it affordable? ... The ones that lost their insurance now have [Obamacare], and we don't know what that number is. I guarantee you three-quarters of them are paying a significantly higher cost, have a higher co-pay and a higher deductible."
Call out the liars, Coburn, what have you got to lose?
“You’re just a doctor. What do YOU know?!?”
But you know Reid doesn’t call the people that bring up the problems with Zerocare liars or belittle them.....except when he does every damn day. I think the only time Reid takes a serious look at negative stories is when it’s about payola to his grandaughter.
As hard as harry tries he will never ever become a better liar than his sock puppet master mac daddy.
Although words coming out of the mouth of either one have no truth or credibility what so ever.
It was very creepy watching the bots clap in the rose garden today. They kept clapping and clapping. It reminded me of North Korea.
I wonder if his payola granddaughter has Obamacare coverage.
“Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., dismissed the critique as too “in the weeds.” .........
If I could wish cancer on anyone, it would certainly be Dirty Harry, he deserves every bit of pain cancer could inflict on him. he is ONE mean, nasty bastard!
“...It was very creepy watching the bots clap in the rose garden today. They kept clapping and clapping. It reminded me of North Korea....”
Well, if it makes you feel any better, communists are the same worldwide. Why would you think they’d be any different here? They’re really no different than their NK brethren. You need to just “get used to it” and “what difference does it make..”
Reid and Pelosi are nothing but socialistic bags of wind. They have made more nonsensicle statements during their terms than one can keep track of. How they ever got elected is beyond me. Proves people are stupid when they elect stupid leaders.
ObamaCare clearly states that at the age of 76 - you will no longer be “eligible” for cancer treatment.
You can’t get much more evil than that.
So .. evidently, Harry Reid has not read ObamaCare either.
That’s okay. Harry will deny that he said it next week
Reid clearly has dementia.
People should just dismiss Harry Reid.
Notice how the progessives try to avert any criticism by dismissing it? It’s “in the weeds” or “already asked and answered” or “Benghazi blah-blah-blah”.
Incredible that they get away with it most of the time- it helps to have lofovo’s and a willing press.
Reid is a typical compassionate progressive. When Dana Bash asked Reid the question about why he wouldnt take action if he could help one child who has cancer, Reid responded, Listen, listen why would we want to do that? I have 1,100 people at Nellis Air Force Base that are sitting home. They have a few problems of their own. This is to have someone of your intelligence to suggest such a thing maybe means youre irresponsible and reckless
Any Nevada Freepers know if people are calling Reid’s office and reading him the riot act? If I lived there, I would call his office every day and rant and rave until they hung up on me. Surely people in NV are suffering as much as everyone else.
As I understand it, M.D. Anderson is not covered - and they are dropping Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Harry Reid doesn’t care about cancer patients. Harry Reid wants people to die.
