Daily Beast columnist and CNN contributor Sally Kohn took to Twitter on Monday with a triumphant message to Republicans. “Once again, Republicans,” she tweeted, “if you’re [sic] biggest attack against Obamacare is the website,that’s a sign you’re losing the larger debate.”
Kohn’s tweet echoes a common theme among ObamaCare’s myriad media bulwarks like her-- a suggestion that criticism focusing on the technical issues experienced by the online ObamaCare exchanges is a sign of weakness in the public debate over healthcare.
On one level, it just seems like your typical spin, meant to turn the sour and toxic fruit of ObamaCare’s implementation into a bitter drink that can be choked down if you’re willing to just close your eyes, hold your nose, and chug with the Obama faithful.
It’s doubtful that it’ll be widely lapped up outside her more devoted readers, however. President Obama’s flagship healthcare legislation now enjoys adismally low 26% approval rating, Democrats just suffered a substantial defeat in a Florida election that was all too obviously hinging upon the Democratic support of and Republican opposition to ObamaCare, and many Democrats in flyover country are, out of apparent necessity and in a desperate bid for survival, roundly distancing themselves from ObamaCare. All reasons which would, for any reasonable person, suggest that Republicans are currently winning the largerhealthcare debate, not losing.

I think she’s right. Focusing on the web site takes the emphasis off the larger problems with Obamacare.
It’s not just the web site. She’d know that if she every poked her head of the echo chamber all liberals lock themselves in.

Absolutely. Between Mediaid expansion and plan subsidies, and the pushback of the mandates, Obamacare manifesting as a big new welfare program. Welfare programs only need to be successful for their beneficiaries to be politically successful, because they create ardent supporters and diffuse ineffective opponents. Republicans have never liked welfare and yet have literally once in the 50 years since the launch of the Great Society actually done anything to restrain welfare programs’ growth.
Sadly true. Incumbent Republicans like to give out goodies just as much as incumbent or challenger Democrats.
You’re absolutely right. The law is a mess, and the problems will only get worse. The website was a mess, but they’ll fix it eventually. The point has been made. Stop talking about it. Focus on that fact that out of say, 40 million uninsured, maybe 2 million of those people signed up for Obamacare. We upended the economy only so 5% of those people to get insurance???
Yep. And as it is, they only got insured because of subsidies, which could have been provided more directly through tax file filing—saving billions and not killing off our healthcare system in the process.
(Because just like they can eventually fix the web sites, they can eventually bribe more uninsured into coverage.)
