The GOP Battle: Paul vs. Cruz
Poletical ^ | April 1st, 2014 | T. Carter

Posted on 04/02/2014 6:50:30 PM PDT by PingPongChampion

There is a fierce battle brewing between three sects of a divided Republican Party. The Rand Paul libertarians and the Ted Cruz social conservatives are drumming up support for what could be a bloody competition to rule the roost of 2016. In the safe middle is the establishmentarian moderates and the elites of the Republican Party, like Chris Christie and Marco Rubio. The most watched and most important battle, however, will be the battle between the GOP's two rights – the battle between Paul and Cruz.

In an interview with Vocativ, Rand Paul spoke of a Republican Party that requires a softer approach to social issues. In 2012, when Ted Cruz won his senate seat in Texas, the Washington Post likened him to a socially conservative crusader. What both men have in common is their strong commitment to the US Constitution and their strong support from within the Tea Party.

I love them both along with Palin but idiots know that Cruz is out. He is disqualified under the Constitution as NOT being born within the confines of USA borders or in the statutorily permitted US bases or territories. I love him to death but he is in the same boat as obama if that jack ass was born in Kenya. We all know that.
So its Senator Paul— don’t waste any more energy on Cruz.

Keep the focus on Obama and his failed policies. This is a sidebar issue that the elites want conservatives to engage in.

I voted for Paul, and still consider him a pretty good Senator, certainly the best one we have in KY.

But of late he is bothering me with talk that seriously smacks of amnesty for ILLEGALS.

That is the one thing which will make me a single issue voter.

Regardless of an elected official’s views on different subjects, natural born American citizens should always come first. Especially over criminal intruders. What is so damn hard for these clowns to comprehend about that??

Open borders turd like his father, versus Cruz?
Maybe Rand should be seeking a position in the United Nations where his utter bullcrap fits in or just go ahead and join the Democrats where the bulk of his positions fit in.

Basically he is a liberal who doesn’t want to pay high taxes.

I wonder, just speculation mind you, if some libertarians are becoming birthers because the opponent is the socially conservative Cruz. I wonder if they might find another argument if the opponent was the socially conservative Palin, Pence, Santorum, or Jindal.

I doubt if they are actually real birthers. I think that they may just be birthers of convenience.

Just speculation, mind you.

Can be a citizen but shouldn’t be allowed to run for President. We have only had 44 Presidents. Even McCain shouldn’t have been qualified. Yes I know his Father was in the military but you know life isn’t fair. My son was born in Italy while I was stationed in Italy and he shouldn’t be qualified to be President. We have ONLY had 44 people as President. Certainly a qualification of being born in the US should be a mandatory requirement…..WE HAVE ONLY HAD 44 PRESIDENTS….44 people out of at least 2 billion people. We should make it as difficult as possible for goodness sake. 44 People!!!! That is it! We should be able to find someone qualified who was born in the US.

That is not the first idea that comes to my mind but if I cared about this I would search past posts from 2010 and 2011 of those Cruz birthers for comments looking to see if dissed the birthers back then.

I ridiculed the 2011 birthers back then with glee, esp Trump's chumps, so I can only find this amusing.

Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
[Posted on 03/19/2013 7:04:07 AM PDT by Perdogg]
Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...

I honestly do not care who is on the ticket. I want the ticket to win. I want these talented men to lay aside any issues and come together to put this country back on the right track.

A talented team that has strength of purpose and commitment to better the country.

Let them work together and make and appoint a remarkable cabinet that actually changes the dependent sclerosis of Washington.

Now that’s a different argument other than the retard here.

I disagree though. I understand and like the sentence everyone seems to ignore (like liberals ignore “the free exercise thereof” in the 1st); “under the jurisdiction thereof.”

That counts as much as being “in” the US. Nowhere in the document does it state within the borders as some have stated. And I don’t care about court opinion. We all know how much that is truly worth.

So if a US citizen living in London on a job has his pregnant US citizen wife join him for a week and she goes into early labor and produces a child, that child is NOT a US citizen?

Citizen? Yes, probably a citizen of the US and possibly a native born citizen of GB, depending on the treaties in place and each nations' laws regarding citizenship.

But not a natural born American citizen, as I understand the term.

Natural born citizenship, as I understand the term, is an exclusive form of citizenship, since Mom's and Dad's citizenship are of the same place the child is born, there are no other options for that child's citizenship.

It's a "pure" form of citizenship that differs in purity than the less pure Native born, as I understand those terms.

The most diluted form would be if mom's citizenship and dad's citizenship are each from different nations and the child is born in yet another nation than either of the nations the parents are citizens of.

That child potentially has citizenship in three different nations, depending on the treaties.

As such, I don't know which nation or parent would have the stronger claim to that child, the father, the mother or the nation where s/he was born.

But there's no way that's Natural Born Citizenship, as I understand the term and its use in our Constitution.

However, if the NBC requirement is removed from the Constitution and changed to just "citizen", then this argument goes away.

Otherwise, NBC means born here to American citizens, as I understand it from what I learned in grade school and through researching the terms in the many, many arguments since obama was installed.

If you liked the many attempts to get that issue before the courts, including that of Lt. Col. Lakin, the Army Dr. who refused to follow obama's orders until the issue was ruled upon and wound up in the brig, then you'll love it should Cruz, born in Canada to a Cuban father and an American mother, run for POTUS.
