President Obama might be thrilled that 7.1 million people apparently signed up for ObamaCare exchanges. But doctors have good reason to withhold their applause.
Back in June 2009, Obama told a gathering of the American Medical Association that he was "looking at a range of ideas" that would stem the tide of costly medical malpractice lawsuits and "scale back the excessive defensive medicine."
A few months later, he told Congress that "I've talked to enough doctors to know that defensive medicine may be contributing to unnecessary costs" and that he would borrow a page from President Bush and fund demonstration projects for various reforms at the state level.
In a written note on a 2009 staff memo, Obama made it clear why he was talking up malpractice reform with doctors: "If this helps the AMA stay on board, we should explore it."
In the end, Obama got the AMA's endorsement of ObamaCare. But so far he hasn't delivered any malpractice reforms.

At the risk of being an informed cynic, if/when medicine is socialized Obama et al don’t want it targeted further by the lawyers.
On the other hand, the lawyers don’t want to see a cash cow disappear.
These political bedfellows deserve each other.
Medical Malpractice is now called Obamacare.
The Trial Lawyers Association is one of the biggest contributors to the Democrat party. That is where medical malpractice reform went.
There is no mystery here; its the same old story: Obama lied, and (fill in the blank) died.
Today’s fill-in-the-blank is “malpractice reform”.
Something like 95 percent of medical malpractice cases take place in state courts. Most states have addressed tort reform. While it makes for nice soundbites, there is not a lot that can be done at the federal level.
Too many lawyers contributing too much money to Pols, for Tort Reform to ever pass!
Reasonable tort reform is NEVER going to happen so long as lawyers dominate legislatures and the Democrat party holds any sway in the matter.
