Nearly 1,000 attend Charlotte Catholic meeting on nun’s speech
Charlotte Observer ^ | 4/3/2014 | Tim Funk

Nearly 1,000 parents gathered at Charlotte Catholic High School on Wednesday night to air complaints about a recent speech to students by a nun who made what many considered inflammatory comments about gays and lesbians, divorce and single parenthood.

So many parents lined up to speak that the meeting with high school officials, the school’s chaplain and the Diocese of Charlotte’s vicar of education lasted more than an hour longer than scheduled.

Though the gathering was closed to the media, texts and tweets from parents inside the school gym cast the meeting as often heated, with emotions running high on both sides.

Another report listed below has the orthodox parents, naturally, being shouted down by the theology dissenters.

The Dominican of Nashville nun based the 2nd part of her talk on what heretofore was universal understanding of SSA until recently. The abstract for that essay is:

The best-established facts in relation to homosexuality point to developmental-psychological, not genetic or physiological, causation. The efforts of the last few decades to find evidence to support a biological theory have made it more doubtful than ever that such evidence will be found. In contrast, many studies have shown that the most significant factor which correlates with homosexuality is "gender nonconformity" or same-sex peer isolation. Another factor closely associated with homosexuality is an imbalance in parentchild interaction, notably forms of over-influence of the opposite-sex parent in combination with a deficient relationship with the same-sex parent. The third well-established correlation is with inherent, rather than discrimination-produced, "neuroticism" or emotional instability/immaturity.

Structured around this pivotal evidence from statistical as well as clinical research, homosexuality is explained here as a character neurosis. Characteristics of this neurotic character syndrome include personality immaturity, self-victimization, and self-centeredness. This syndrome affects not only the emotional but also the moral and spiritual dimensions of the psyche and if indulged leads to generalized personality deterioration. Therapeutically, a holistic approach, simultaneously addressing the emotional, moral, and spiritual components of the psyche, offers the best opportunity for overcoming homosexuality. De-egocentrization and personality maturity, including the development of mature manhood/ womanhood, are the goals of therapy.

Here’s a thought. If you do not agree with Church teachings, worship somewhere else.

That analysis is spot on. I said in the original thread that environment is the cause in the vast majority of homosexuals.

Same sex isolation
Same sex molestation
Social outcasts

Very very few are born that way. If a homosexual projects overtly stereotypical homosexual behavior as if they want to make sure everyone knows it, they definitely were not born that way.

I’m sure a large percent that attended had nothing to do with the school.

she was presenting traditional Catholic teachings. But Hains and others said the majority of parents who spoke did not agree with the nun

then go to school at a non-catholic institution. Next we'll have a freaking on-line petition for the nun to 'resign.'

They want to destroy the traditional church, and replace it with something that approves of their horrendous lifestyle.

If the “Catholic” parents want Sacraments with "tolerance and inclusion” they should become Episcopalian (TEC) or Lutheran (ELCA).

“Here’s a thought. If you do not agree with Church teachings, worship somewhere else.”

I always thought it was just me who saw dissenters as idiots.
so, they go to a catholic church that believes that the pope is infalable because gods speaks through him. so, their argument is we want you to change your teachings that de facto come from god, so we can worship god as we see fit.
just never got that logic.

It can't get any simpler than that.

there’s something seriously wrong these parents and their teenagers. They can leave this school if they don’t like its theology.

That the school is having a meeting on complaints about its theology is a wrong move unless they’re gonna change their theology.

It was a mistake to have this meeting. Nothing good was going to come of it. Send a letter stating the doctrine of the Church and be done with it. If they don’t like it they can leave.

liberals are proud to make history with obama and gay marriage. they now want to make history by pressuring the catholic church to embrace gay marriage, abortion, and wealth redistribution.

I’m glad you quoted from the abstract. The sister is right on the money.

I agree with others. Why would you pay to send your kids to catholic school if you don’t want them to be taught in the catholic tradition?

these sissy kids and parents really think pope francis is on their side. thus they stay in the catholic church to help the pope change the church.
