Star Tribune: Al Franken at 44% against opponents (…they muttered, darkly).

You’re probably sourly amused at all the signalling done in these paragraphs:

A new Minnesota poll, commissioned by a partisan group, finds that Democratic U.S. Sen. Al Franken is “potentially vulnerable” as he mounts his bid for re-election.

It found that Franken has a 3 percentage lead over Republican Julianne Ortman and a 6 percentage point lead over Republican Mike McFadden.

The poll was conducted by Magellan Strategies for American Encore, a group connected to the Koch Brothers that is already running television ads bashing Franken. It included 1,081 likely Minnesota voters in late March.

…because you probably also suspect that the Star Tribune would use considerably more neutral language if it the poll had been commissioned by a Democratic-leaning group funded by the Steyer brothers. but that’s all right: at least they felt obligated to report that Al Franken can’t get above 44% against two named opponents. Admittedly, they didn’t have much choice.

Does this mean that Franken is doomed? Of course not. Does it mean that the DSCC may need to think about kicking him more resources soon? …Mayyyybe? The question for the DSCC is, how much do they feel like gambling? – Because if the Democrats end up at the point where they lose Minnesota, then I don’t see the Democrats even being able to hope to retake the Senate before 2018*.

Moe Lane

*The 2016 Presidential election puts out a distortion field that makes any strong prognostications past that point meaningless. Particularly in the Senate, given that the question of who holds power there is much more reliant on individual personalities than it would be in the House: the 2016 election will undoubtedly cause a couple of vacancies there, as Senators take on Cabinet positions. Or the Vice Presidency.

Dennis Miller is a Castle Shannon, PA boy.
If anything he is going to come back and be MY Senator.

As far back as 2008, at the presidential debate in Nashville, Democrat candidate Obama advanced his signature plan that was ultimately enacted (by an historic straight Democrat party-line vote) into the "Affordable Care Act :

OBAMA: "No. 1, let me just repeat, if you’ve got a health care plan that you like, you can keep it. All I’m going to do is help you to lower the premiums on it. You’ll still have choice of doctor.”

Repeated over and over ---- with the promise that every American would be saving $2500.00 on healthcare costs.

=================================================

Every Democrat enthusiastically chimes in, echoing the same false promises----lock-stepping party loyalty not seen since 1940's-era Europe.

================================================

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) : "people who are happy with their current plan, wouldn't need to change it."

Al Franken, the Earl Long of Minnesota politics, seems to have just about everything against him, but he won the last time around, didn’t he? The strategy then was just to keep up the vote recount until he was declared the winner.

It does not matter what the voters may mark upon their ballots. What matters is who is counting the votes.

And the Minnesota Progressives have a stranglehold on the most important precincts in the states, where whole columns of figures can be juggled at will.

Josef Stalin would be so proud.

I have had Mike McFadden on my charts for a while.
but this is the first time I have heard of Julianne Ortman.
If Minnesota is vulnerable to a flip from D to R, then
it would indicate a very bad November for the democrats.

True, they did just counting until he won, but that does meant it will work again. And certainly not if the margin is several percentage points against him.

Franken won because he ran during a presidential election year. This time around, he's in a mid-term, and turnout will be much lower.

Not saying he'll lose, but his path to re-election is more difficult.

I don't know her, but...

http://www.mngopac.org/2013/12/press-release-mn-gun-owners-pac-endorses-julianne-ortman-for-united-states-senate/

GOPAC is the political action committee operating in parallel with the Gun Owners Civil Rights Alliance, which is the group that pushed shall-issue through the MN legislature. (You may remember MN Concealed Carry Reform Now. MNCCRN was a subsidiary of GOCRA, and has been folded back into the parent organization after shall-issue passed, because "Concealed Carry Reform, ten years ago!" sounds rather stupid.)

Any gut feeling regarding Mike McFadden vs. Julianne Ortman?

Here’s Al Franken’s new campaign slogan.....

“Skunga blat née wingo wingo!”

It makes as much sense as anything else he’s ever said.

Citizens United endorses Ortman in Minnesota

The conservative group Citizens United is endorsing Minnesota state Sen. Julianne Ortman’s (R) Senate campaign, bucking establishment Republicans who want businessman Mike McFadden (R) to lock up the nomination against Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.).

If you care about secure borders, I ask you to think twice about Mike McFadden. He supports the Gang of 8 bill. His campaign literature says he’s against amnesty, but his support of the Gang of 8 bill belies that assertion.

Al Franken is a real animal lover. Why, they had a Goat Show and Al Franken showed up to help. They would wash the goats, and Al Franken would blow dry them. Everyone knows Al Franken blows goats.

Franken was elected by massive voter fraud. In a razor thin election against Norm Coleman, ballot boxes that had been “lost” suddenly appeared with every ballot cast for Franken.

Al Franken’s Senate career is just like his comedy career - a failure, but he thinks he’s a success.
