GOP push for immigration reform thwarted

The head of the House Armed Services Committee dealt another blow to immigration reform efforts in the Republican-controlled House on Friday by deciding not to include in this year's defense policy bill GOP-written proposals that would permit undocumented immigrants to become legal U.S. residents if they serve in the military.

The decision could cause considerable political trouble for Reps. Mike Coffman (R-Colo.) and Jeff Denham (R-Calif.) and other Republicans who represent districts with growing immigrant communities and are expected to face well-funded campaigns by Democrats and immigration rights groups to unseat them in this year's elections.

Coffman and Denham had been pushing proposals that would allow qualified undocumented immigrants to enlist in the U.S. military and then seek to become legal permanent residents if they met certain service requirements. Other House Republicans, mostly from Western states, have been pressuring GOP leaders to permit votes on the issue. In recent weeks, Coffman and Denham had asked GOP leadership to hold votes on their bills or at least include their language in the annual National Defense Authorization Act, a comprehensive measure that is considered one of the few remaining must-pass pieces of legislation.

But House Armed Services Committee Chairman Howard "Buck" McKeon (R-Calif.) said Friday that he will not allow either proposal to be added to this year's defense bill because he didn't believe it was the appropriate legislative venue for the measure. The decision came after several days of protest by conservative Republican lawmakers, who first learned about the possibility of including Denham's proposal in the defense bill from reports in conservative news outlets such as Breitbart News.

This Congress is doing good. I’d like to see them put up a stand alone H1-B bill and pass it. Let the Senate Democrats either pass it or kill it. Either way it ends their coalition for illegal immigration legalization.

Toss in welfare reform once we win the Senate and most illegals will self-deport.

I agree. They should not try to seek any type of immigration reform by adding it to another bill. It should succeed or fail on its own merit.

Wow! Not only will we let illegal aliens into our country, we'll allow them to fight for us as foreign mercenaries.

What could go wrong?

That’s not how it works. The house passed the H1B bill, the senate cobbles something like it together. When it passes it goes to Conference Committee where the RATS inject Scamnasty and it gets passed and signed into law.

WE get Screwed...

NO Immigration bill AT ALL can be voted out of the house without that happening!

How about instead of attempting to replace our aging population and the population of young people lost to the abortion holocaust with a poor uneducated underclass of foreigners from a a corrupt country, why not make conditions favorable for the old saying,

“Be fruitful and multiply”

We should be encouraging Americans to get married and have families with as many babies as can be reasonably cared for.

When are they gonna stop the s**t? For the last 12 months we’ve heard countless times that immigration reform is dead, yet it keeps rearing its ugly head. WTF is wrong with these people? Just kill it, put a fork in it, drive a stake through it, and have a large, public, celebratory funeral service with all the bells and whistles. No means no. End of story.
Read my lips—Stick your immigration reform where the sun don’t shine, and don’t ever bring it up again.

The forces of evil never keep trying, while many conservatives seem always to give up when they meet any opposition.

GeronL:" They are turning the military into a liberal social program"

The military is being changed into a liberal social program
The IRS has been changed into the anti-defamation "bully program preventing any opposeing voice to the administration
The "Just-Us " Deptartment has turned into the diversity deflection program , stalling and preventing objective investigation into any scandal .
The Social Security program is now changed from an "earned benefit " arising from past employment into what it is now Federal Socialized Welfare taxation program.
The Educational Dept. is now the "Common Core " Nationalized Indoctrination Office of Propaganda .
NASA has been changed from a space exploration agency , and is now changed into Multi-diversity and Muslim advocate voice
NOAA is now changed from temperature and climate into the Official United Nations Agenda 21 Sustainability office.
The EPA is changed from an agency designed to protect citizens, to an agency that resricts personal and corporate freedom and growth
and most recently has sought to commandeer land and private property , and command ditribution of necessary water resources .
Well , you were promised " Hope and Change ", and now that's all that you can do : " Hope and Change " !!

Illegal immigrants are criminals, I remember in the early 70’s when I was in the military, there was something called McNamara’s 100,000, this was a program were a criminal could go to jail or join the army.

It turned out there was more like 300,000 and discipline in the Army was nil, morale nose dived, they even stole your dirty laundry, hard core drug use was rampant, it was a most miserable time I can tell you.

There are already to many gangs in the military, then you got the queers and assorted other perverts...NO WAY JOSE!

The Dreamers will sponsor their parents and siblings and brother-in-law.

Back in 2012:

In an interview with Juan Williams on Sunday, Florida Senator Marco Rubio explained that he doesn’t support The DREAM Act -— a measure supported by 90% of U.S. Latinos — because it would encourage “chain migration” and illegal immigration.

Bingo, especially the VA. It's a way to cut military spending and buy votes, while very possibly assuring the military's backing when TSHTF.

The press knows citizens hate ‘immigration reform’ so every chance they get they’ll tag every story with names of Republicans. They try the same with Obamacare but NOT ONE REPUBLICAN voted for it...

Watching the US fall like the Romas empire has been unreal.
One of the key reason Rome collapse was they exempted Romans from the draft and relied on Foreign mercanaries like the Germans to be there Army.

Now , we have a Marxist America hating foreigner who is dismantling the Military and we have Illegals or Foreign mercenaries as our Army.

Unreal !
Illegals not even citizen are our defenders .
We are screwed.

This is a big deal folks.....this bill was set up by the GOP leadership so it could get to the senate where they could graft amnesty onto the bill, send it back to congress, and bring in 30 million new slaves.

Yeah, a Republican voting for amnesty will really make the Hispanics love them. They’ll be as appreciative as they were for Juan McAmnesty who has pushed amnesty incessantly. The Hispanic/Latino vote in 2008: 31% for McAmnesty, 67% for JugEars.

So go ahead, Denham, et al.: vote to make even more third-worlders citizens so you will lose your congressional seat even faster.

They don’t call it the Stupid Party for nothing.
