Ready to Smirk: How Comcast bought the Democratic Party
Washington Free Beacon. ^ | April 4, 2014 | Matthew Continetti

Posted on 04/05/2014 7:27:41 AM PDT by cutty

Comcast, which employs more than 100 lobbyists, spent almost $19 million last year on lobbying activities. Its president and CEO, Brian L. Roberts, is a golf buddy of President Obama’s, and a Democratic donor who has contributed thousands of dollars not only to the president’s campaigns, but also to the Democratic Party of Pennsylvania, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the DNC Services Corporation, and to Steny Hoyer, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Bob Casey. Roberts’ executive vice president, David Cohen, is a former aide to Democratic bigwig Ed Rendell. Cohen skirts lobbying regulations through loopholes, has raised more than $2 million for Obama since 2007, and in 2011 hosted a DNC fundraiser at which the president called him “friend.” Cohen has visited the White House 14 times since 2010..

...

Comcast’s in-kind contributions to the Democratic Party are more difficult to calculate. In a media environment that already tilts leftward, the NBC networks, which Comcast owns, distinguish themselves as especially pro-Obama. Comcast has one channel, MSNBC, which is almost entirely devoted to furthering the president’s agenda and the broader priorities of the American progressive movement.

...

It is something of a political irony that Republicans, who for ideological reasons are pro-business, have not raised questions about, or objections to, the conjoining of two Democratic institutions into a media trust. If Republicans had any sense, they would wage war against Comcast and its Democratic enablers and turn the merger into a live issue. Needless to say they have not done so, perhaps in the wrongheaded and futile hope of scraps from the table of the Comcast cable beast, perhaps in the foolish and selfish notion that David Cohen may one day add another man to his company of lobbyists.

Eisenhower should have warned us about the media-government complex.

Cable companies have had an evil incestuous relationship with politicians (especially big city types) since the 60s, as they “purchased” exclusive rights to territories.

Their huge profits let them run propaganda channels like MSNBC and CNN without any worry about those networks being profitable.

There was some hope when satellite started cutting into their markets, but the consumer desire for broadband internet kind of helped them out.

Choose another cable company other than Comcast or Time -Warner whenever possible from here on out even though they want to become a monopoly and will not be stopped by the current traitor in chief. The only wayto stop these types is to remove their $$$$$$

It’s difficult to avoid them for broadband.
Some neighbors have switched to ATT U-Verse but have had painful technical problems. The ATT service truck seems to be parked on our street several days a week.

Sorry, but I can't get my shorts in a bunch over this. EVERY G—D-— politician is owned by someone or some corporation.

Since I can't afford one, I can only hang on until there is nothing left to hang on for.

In our area, Comcast has bought all the local politicians and is the only game in town for many. Over the air antennas do not work. Comcast scrambles the signal, then charges for a box to unscramble the signal to get even local channels.

I’ve looked at ATT, but my neighbors that tried it are unhappy with problems. Not sure if it’s a local issue or not.
The reliability of my cable (BrightHouse) has been surprisingly good.

Every year when the send a price increase I call up and tell them I’m switching to ATT, and they rescind the increase. I’m paying 2009 rates.

Our Comcast, 3 in one bill, last March was $125, it has now increased to $237.

We will be going to Direct TV for the tv. We never watch HBO/Showtime and similar nets. That will be a big savings.

AT&T in this area is very unreliable. Their DSL is slower than slow and unreliable. When, we were with them, often with two different land line numbers, my wife and I couldn’t call each other in our home besides not being able to get or make outside calls. A couple of neighbors have AT&T and are thinking about renting out their driveways for AT&T to keep a truck ready to patch the old system up again.
We see at least one AT&T truck a week on our little cul de sac.

So I’m looking for a reliable satellite Internet provider. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Trac phone system has a wireless home phone system that should work for a reasonable up front cost and $15/month per line after that.

Verizon due to politics isn’t available here for tv and regular phones. Interesting fact re Verizon, they provide the good service for Trac phones and the wireless home phone system in this area.

LOL since a couple of my neighbors switched to U-Verse I'm seeing the same thing here.

Republican leaders are not pro business. They are pro government. There is no difference between them and the corrupt mafia Democrat party.
