Tea Party challenger threatens to 'kill' O-Care
The Hill ^ | 4/5/2014 | Tim Devaney

The Tea Party candidate who is challenging Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) promised to "kill" ObamaCare, if he gets elected in November.

"We are not going to stand with an eye toward trying to place a Band-Aid on ObamaCare," Mississippi state Sen. Chris McDaniel said at FreePAC Kentucky, a conservative gathering in Louisville on Saturday. "We're not going to fix it. We're going to kill it."

The event featured a number of other Tea Party speakers, including two who are running against fellow Republicans in the November elections. Many in the Tea Party are upset that mainstream Republicans aren't doing more to fight the Obama administration.

McDaniel hopes to unseat six-term Cochran, who has been in office since 1978. While Kentucky businessman Matt Bevin, who was also speaking at the event, is vying to defeat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a five-term senator.

"They say this race I'm in right now is a test of the old guard," McDaniel said in a deep Irish accent. "I'm not sure what that means. I know my opponent has been there 42 years, been there as long as I've been alive. Richard Nixon was president when he arrived."

Cochran has actually been in office for 36 years, but he did run Richard Nixon's campaign in Mississippi in 1968.

McDaniel promised to fight ObamaCare, but said he was disappointed that many Republicans have given up in the battle.

"Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) have given us an outstanding example of what courage can do, of what real leadership can do," he said. "They stood there doing their best to defund ObamaCare. That was a fight they should have fought, it was a fight we should have won. But the same old (Republicans) told us that was not a winnable solution."

McDaniel said the GOP should learn to stand up for itself and shouldn't be afraid to go against the Obama administration.

"It's the same thing everywhere we go, isn't it?" McDaniel asked. "'Republicans have to learn to compromise. We have to learn to reach across the aisle.' I don't remember the Democrats reaching across the aisle, when they basically took ObamaCare and rammed it down our throats."

McDaniel also talked about lowering the national debt. "I've got 17.3 trillion reasons to never compromise on the debt again," he said.

Kill it, wrap it in a pig carcass, and dump it off the stern of an aircraft carrier.

Sen Cochran has overstayed his time in DC.
Where are term limits when we need them?

I believe the Tea Party is picking the wrong issue, in this coming race.

Do not just fight against Obamacare.

That is just returning what we had.

That was also broken.

Go get 'em, Tiger.

Just don't get co-opted when Dingy puts your office at the Coal Fired Power Plant used to provide power to the Capitol.

The TEA Party needs to cycle though ~4 issues rotating every week (could be 3 issues with the 4th rotation being the issue de jure).

I completely agree.

Don’t just become against healthcare.

Not everyone is on a government pension. Just saying.

I wish I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard or read someone running for political office with the promise to kill Traitorobamacare. I probably could afford it then.

How?

How is not having a “pay this tax for being alive” broken?

They could always have "Whack a Mole 'Rat every Monday explaining yet another travesty run by Dingy, Nazi, Schmuchie, Moron, Franken, etc. and what will be passed Tuesday that week and sent to Dingy to fix it.

Sounds like Mississippi picked a good one to challenge Thad.

We are aginst the government takeover of healthcare.

That premise is flawed. It’s a lib argument.

I have to approach this subject very gingerly.

I am not on a federal pension, as many on this site are. I do not currently have any need for federal healthcare, but that could change.

My company has been laying off Americans (just Americans) for about 10 years. Hundreds, maybe a thousand by now.

It is continuing, and at some point I may end up out. At that point I may need that coverage.

That is a very important thing, to me.

Granted it’s not important for everyone. If you’re already on a federal program you don’t see this as an issue.

I am not on a federal program. That said, I would ENTHUSIASTICALLY support a tea party candidate.

But I am not in favor of just repealing Obamacare.

I’m just saying. I think that would be a (big) electoral loser.

Could be I’m just biased from my own perspective, but there is my view.

Trying to “fix” Obamacare is like putting a bandaid on a sucking chest wound—Its dead, it was too ugly to live. Even Castro could have come up with something better—than this woebegone frankenstein. Scrap it (its going to happen anyway) and start from scrach over again and craft something better. Anyone could—get Dr. Rand Paul to figure something out—let doctors do it not race hussler union cronies.

“I believe the Tea Party is picking the wrong issue, in this coming race. Do not just fight against Obamacare. That is just returning what we had. That was also broken.”

Nice paraphrasing of Democratic talking points - in other words, “the Tea Party is offering no alternatives”

Here’s the solution - Repeal the ACA taxes (that means you, Paul Ryan). Rescind the funding to enforce ACA. Trust the innovation of the free market.

I have a couple of Democrat talking points, I agree. I really however believe, they would make much more sense, as Republican points...

I support jobs in America.

And I support something as a fall-back plan, for Americans who lose their coverage.

End it, don’t mend it.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has made a good working plan for a substitute for this disastrous atrocity called the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010”, which neither protects patients nor provides affordable care. Essentially, the individual purchases a major medical catastrophic plan tailored to personal and family needs, and day-to-day coverage of medical services are paid out from a supplementary savings account, which is there for the smaller claims for medical services, like health-maintenance and routine medical examinations. There are also a number of other provisions, of relatively lesser importance, but the “Obamacare” legislation addresses neither the functions mentioned above, the availability of true insurance coverage, which is risk-based and NOT an entitlement, and the actual and necessary personal responsibility factor.

There is a way to do this, and do it right. But the Current Regime now squatting in the White Hut is too ideologically enamored of its signature “achievement” to even discuss its major and multiple failures to address the problems it claims to be its reason for its existence.
