Antonio Rivero, a former general who went into hiding in February to avoid arrest for his role in the protests that have rocked the government of President Nicolas Maduro.

Moving into Spanish, he apologised for the subterfuge involved in our rendezvous.

“These are bad times for our country and we are having to take extraordinary measures,” he said in his first interview since going underground.

A former officer in a tyrannical government now has joined with the opposition.

Typical of the countries south of our border. If the opposition succeeds, and if this general comes to power, will he be another dictator?

Of course. You think Obama is going to allow anything even
close to a representative republic get a foothold anywhere
especially in this hemisphere?
As far as the culture goes south of the border, the
latinoids seem to be stuck in a primitive mode they just
cant seem to get themselves out of. You’d think that after
all this time one of those countries would have snapped to
what works and followed suit.

The "Venezuelan People" are the idiots that voted for the communist Chavez in the first place and kept reelecting him and then his demented successor.

They deserve everything marxism brings them.

Except for the loss of government control, this is the same road that Obama wants to travel. Obama and Chavez were soul mates and the US passivity is tacit support for the Chavistas and Cubans running Venezuela.

Many Americans are ignorant of this country’s relationship with Mexico prior to the 1840s.

As long as Mexico was a Spanish colony, the Europeans who made up the governing class there feared the United States and were hostile towards us for throwing off our governing class of aristocrats. Subsequent American shipping was attacked on the Gulf of Mexico, crews usually killed and ship and cargo stolen by the Mexicans.

Our government considered what to do: should we go to war, or not. It was eventually decided that Mexico had potential as an independent nation and was temporarily dysfunctional, especially after Napoleon conquered Spain, then sold to us what we call the Louisiana Purchase. My, how that sale really pissed off the Mexicans!

It was the decision of Congress and the Republic of Texas to allow inclusion of Texas as a State into the Union of the United States that caused the Mexican-American War.

Mexico will never forgive or forget. The problem with people who consider themselves superior to us is that they cannot accept their defeat by forces they see as inferior.

The problem with countries that had large Indian populations and later, centralized colonial governments telling everyone what to do, is that has always been the norm for them. The concept of self-government is an unknown. It requires literacy and education, which for many Indians and Mestizos is anathema.

If ANYONE here thinks this cannot happen to the United States, they are NUTS.

We’ve been debating this on another thread - basically we WILL get to the same place if one of two things happen:

1) We pass the Senate Amnesty bill (Rubio). Within 20 years we will have an UNSTOPPABLE Democrat majority (due to the new citizens and chain migration of family members) and they will descend this country into an economic nightmare, as in Ven. Once that happens, people get mad, protest, and the government does what it must do to hold power - fight back and jail its opposition.

2) We pass a somewhat watered down version of the Senate bill. Similar, but only legalizes the Illegals, and does not make them citizens. This was Ted Cruz’s proposal last summer (but it didn’t go far enough for Schumer). If that’s the case, you still get chain migration, and the Democrats still get their lock on power, but it may take 30 or 40 years.

Personally, I’d rather see us simply make life difficult for those that are here and give them a reason to go back (i.e., no welfare, healthcare, education, jobs). That would give us a chance to integrate the current crop of new citizens that we already have and hopefully not have them become Spanish-only speaking Democrats.

Hmmm, if someone with an unbiased agenda was to step back and evaluate our current culture and compare it to the "latinoids", I wonder which would merit the description of being primitive...........really?

Your point being what?
To “wonder” about it in the first
place would take a biased opinion.
Do you really want to go there? I can prove my point.

“It was the decision of Congress and the Republic of Texas to allow inclusion of Texas as a State”.

Few people know that it was the Mexican citizens in Texas
that kicked Mexico out, not the United States so called
theft.

” It requires literacy and education, which for many Indians and Mestizos is anathema.”

Of which we promote by teaching the anchor babies in their
native language in our public schools. Keep them dumb and
under control like the majority on the liberal left.

Mexico has great resources and a hard working population
but their culture can be summed up in three words
graft, gaudy and corrupt.

VZ is stacked up three deep with Cubans. I don’t expect a return to democracy anytime soon.

Yes, I know. But the Venezuelans are not liking any part of this.

Unfortunately Chavez largely disarmed the citizens.

Yes, and the citizens here are arming themselves and preparing for the worst.

I think Obozo and his minions are in for a rude awakening. November is going to be nasty.

Did they re-elect Chavez or was a case of Jimmy Carter’s stamp of approval?

Self rule is hard.

Culture does affect the success.

There is some merit to that statement.

But how about our voters who re-elected the “Won”?

They reelected him by a large margin and would do it again.

What happens when you enfranchise everyone, including millions of poor uneducated peasants who view an election as a way to steal money from the rich without having to use a gun

In the US, all of the same types are now enfranchised and registered too, and now the Marxists are working on enfranchising illegals.

Heck,if it wans’t for Obamacare pissing in the cornflakes of a large percentage of the cretins that vote democrat but still work, Obama could get reelected continuously, or Hillary Clinton could be POTUS.

“If ANYONE here thinks this cannot happen to the United States, they are NUTS.”

You are 100% correct.
America and Canada were the only “New World Countries” that were originally “colonized” by Northern (”white”) Europeans. The rest of the countries in the Western Hemisphere were “colonized” by Southern Europeans. So look at history. Central and South America have always been a turmoil of the socialist/Marxists that make up Southern Europe ( i.e. Spain, Portugal with a little Italy thrown in for good measure). So if we allow the unfettered migration of the byproduct of Southern Europeans to continue here, America will end up just like the rest of the Western Hemisphere, and it will happen rapidly as they procreate while the whites do not.

Hold on folks, we've got a slow one here, so I'll repeat slowly (typing with one finger):

“Hmmm, if someone with an unbiased agenda was to step back and evaluate our current culture and compare it to the “latinoids”, I wonder which would merit the description of being primitive...."

Well, if you don't get the point now, then the problem is on your end and I can't do anything about that.
