The comments from the Bush haters at Politico are pretty funny:

"Meanwhile, Jimmy Carter is feeding villages and curing diseases...

Lol!

It's fun to see them go crazy with hate.

The artwork isn't great - but, hey! I am glad he is enjoying himself in retirement. Compared to Obama, GW Bush was heavenly.

By the way, does anyone know what car this is in the lower right hand photo? It appears to be Bush and Putin driving around the Texas ranch.

It it an early MGB with a hard top?

Any car guys how know, please respond. Thanks.

I just read it was Putin's car - a Volgas.

Technically they aren’t great, but damn if they don’t say something about their subjects. It’s like he tried to pain their souls rather than their faces.

Pain = paint.

Tucker Carlson was recounting how he was seated next to a fairly well-known artist/art-critic who told him although he hates W and everything he stands for - he is quite a good artist.

Yes. Obama golfs, campaigns and well, I can’t think of anything else he does.

Winston Churchill painted too...

His paintings now sell for up to $2 million although like Piscasso it's more about the painter than the paint.

Didn’t Bush say that he had looked into Pooty-poot’s soul and found it good, or something of that nature?

Despite that, he managed to capture those lifeless killer’s eyes in that portrait.

He wrote a fine essay about Painting as a Pastime as well. Everyone here should read that. It’s an amazing and inspiring little essay, as you would expect from WSC.

I think these portraits are pretty good. I would encourage W to keep working, dig deeper and stick with it. In the end, he might do a few that are truly great...he certainly has plenty of life experience to draw from to put into his portraits.

Laughing because if liberals want to start a conversation about art and include the private lives of the artists in their critique of the work at hand... let's just say that is one they'll lose over and over again.

Art is what it is. The artist is who he/she is. The value of their art really should not hinge on who they are. If it does, liberals won't have much to hang on their walls pretty soon.

For the record, I like some of his work, and can see a lot of progress. Good for Mr. Bush.

I think you chose the best one, for sure. W definitely captured some magic there in that Putin one. It is the best, and you are right: it says a lot.

He needs to worry a little less about exactitude. We have photographers for that...

I think all of us have to be impressed by the portrait of GHWB as well. In all seriousness (and we are all Reagan people here, not Bush people, that’s a given), but...how can we fail to appreciate the fact that one President did a portrait of another? And the painter also happened to be President?

That is really something. It is something to celebrate and ponder.

Good to see the human side of Bush. Didn’t know he played guitar either. I think he gets a bad rap. I refer to him as the wrong place, wrong time president because of 911. Had that not happened I think he would have been able to concentrate his efforts more positively and probably not signed off on the Patriot Act which he gets a lot of heat for.

Just looked it up, it’s a volga model GAZ 21 of a style produced during 1962 to 1970. It had either a straight 6 or straight 4 and a three speed manual trans. It also came standard with a heater and radio. This was about as nice a car you could get: most could not afford them. Most could only afford the POS ladas. But if you’re an up and coming KGB Colonel you could afford it, apparently.
