Obama’s new healthcare dilemma
the hill ^ | 6 Apr 14 | Jonathan Easley

Posted on 04/06/2014 3:36:03 AM PDT by SkyPilot

Democrats are battling the White House over proposed cuts to Medicare Advantage, creating a new divide on healthcare just as the party had begun to rally around ObamaCare’s 7.1 million enrollees.

The issue threatens the newfound momentum Democrats have on healthcare after a late surge of ObamaCare enrollees surprised and electrified a party that had been beaten down after months of bad news associated with the healthcare law’s rollout. It’s particularly sensitive during an election year, as both parties court senior voters, who make up a disproportionate percentage of the voting population in midterm elections.

The issue creates another talking point for Republican candidates in a year when the party hopes to gain control of the Senate.

Dozens of Democrats have joined Republicans in calling on the administration to keep Medicare Advantage rates flat to avoid cutting benefits for seniors.

The program has been championed by Republicans as a private market alternative to Medicare. Under the program, seniors can enroll in a plan offered by a private insurer, and the federal government pays the insurer directly.

Support for the program is a reversal for many Democrats, who have historically lampooned the alternative to government health insurance as receiving outsized federal support in comparison to Medicare. The Democratic-led Congress that passed the Affordable Care Act partially paid for it by enacting $200 billion in cuts to Medicare Advantage over 10 years.

The administration will announce 2015 rates for Medicare Advantage on Monday.

KEYWORDS: medicare; medicareadvantage; obamacare; seniors
As the first comments to the article correctly state, the Democrats in Congress passed the Affordable Care Act in 2010 and partially paid for it by enacting $200 billion in cuts to Medicare Advantage over 10 years. Now, that bill is here.

The ACA was a giveaway, designed to provide health insurance for "free" or heavily subsidized. Old, white people were not the people on Obama's mind.

In other words, Obama said: "F^(& you seniors."

I predict this will have an effect on the entire economy, including the stock market. We have 10,000 Baby Boomer retiring per day. As programs such as Medicare Advantage and others fall to the disease that is ObamaCare, they will be forced to withdraw retirement assets simply to alleviate their own suffering and pay more for decent medical care.

Paying thier fair share and in turn lowering thier standard of living and possibly putting most under government entitlements.

My accountant examining the records in a fraud case laughed and said of my business partner, “If he’s going to make up numbers somebody ought to tell him to always make it an odd number.” $37.19, for example.” So, they not only got their 7 million, they did slightly better and got 7.1 million. It should be easy enough to determine how many their really are. Eventually the real number will leak, hopefully in time for the 2014 elections.

As to keeping the Medicare number flat, that will be tantamount to killing the program as inflation is probably running 30%. For example, my post office box rate went from $74 last year to $94 this year. Gas hasn’t gone up much simply because there’s so much more of it this year. But I’m sure you’ve noticed food prices. So, keeping the Medicare rates the same will destroy the program.

Mmmmmmm......vote-crazed Democrats peeling off to join Republicans WRT O/Care gives me a warm, cozy feeling.......but its too late for Dems.

=============================================

Dems are history......lock-stepping Dems marched togther to pass O/Care by an historic straignt party line vote.

Now with 2014 looming, Dems have been cautioned (threatened?) to dare not utter a discouraging word; to never compromise the DNC loyalty oath.

===================================================

That kind of lock-stepping party loyalty has not been seen since 1940's era Europe (cackle).

Kinda reminds me of Peter Sellers trying to subdue
his natural instincts to salute smartly to der leader.

Egged on by Nanzi Pelosi, the Democratic-majority passed the Affordable Care Act by an historic straight party-line vote without even reading it. Then Dems got the wake-up call---they voted $200 billion in cuts to Medicare Advantage. Old, white people were not the people O/Care was intended for.

STROLL DOWN MEMORY LANE Remember when Oprah said America can't rest, until all those elderly white racists die? Followed by Obama honoring her w/ the Presidential Medal?

NO PROBLEM. OBAMA FACTORED THAT IN WAY BACK
IN 2008 WHEN HE INTROED THE HEALTHCARE OVERHAUL
:

O/Care coordinates IPAB (Independent Payment Advisory Board---healthcare rationing---AKA Death Panels).

Officially installed as the “fifth branch” of govt, composed of hand-picked unelected members appointed by Obama:

1) It will make all important health care decisions by authorizing payment or not.

2) It is not funded by Congress and cannot have its budget reviewed or changed.

3) Its membership cannot be changed by future Presidents,

4) It cannot be repealed by Congress, except for a six month window in 2017.

5) Its decisions are not subject to judicial review.

6) It is not authorized by the Constitution, and is therefore immune to Constitutional processes.

The once great American Republic, designed to secure freedom, has been reduced to fighting over the spoils, plunder by the Uniparty. Neither the rat nor GOP wing exist to promote a FreeRepublic. The first and last purpose of the Uniparty is to secure power and wealth for its members.

But hey, just keep voting. That’ll reverse our totalitarian course, fer sure.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is skeptical about these "enrollment figures".

There is not a single statistic that comes out of this regime that can be relied upon. From the unemployment numbers to deportations, everything is skewed politically. The number of people who have actually completed the process and are paying their premiums is probably a lot closer to 1-2 million.

Obama Care was created to lead to the single payer system, period, and destroy reasonable healthcare, insurance companies (gullible weren’t they) and old white people.

Note:
Your tagline: “Im missing a jumbo jet with 235 passengers has anyone seen it”

My guess is your plane is in the Indian Ocean, or with the 400 Surface to Air Missiles stolen in Benghazi, the $6 Billion missing from the State Department, and the 1700 plus guns missing from the Fast and Furious scandal.

I mean how would you fund a small country? Of course a few planes would be necessary to carry out any serious attacks. Next a few ships should disappear along with gold, silver, and other items needed to make that country prepared...our taxpayer dollars at work. Wonder where all that stimulus money ended up.....what else has gone mysteriously missing?

Joe Wilson was lacerated when he shouted "You Lie." Obama lying about O/Care in the SOTU way back then continued apace---illustrative of his favorite pastime: manipulating public opinion.

4/3/14 WSJ--NOONAN: A CATASTROPHE LIKE NO OTHER (WH spin shows a calculated Obama)

SNIP-- Support it or not, you cannot look at ObamaCare and call it anything but a huge, historic mess....utterly unique in the annals of American lawmaking and govt administration.....

.....then-Democratic speaker Pelosi blithely, mindlessly said---but in a way forthcomingly—that we have to pass it to find out what's in it. .... an historic admission that she was fighting hard for something she herself didn't understand, but she had every confidence regulators and bureaucratic interpreters would tell her in time what she'd done.

....for the next three years Democrats would carry on like blithering idiots making believe they'd read the bill and understood its implications. They were later taken aback by complaints from their constituents.

The White House seems to have understood, and lied to Americans in a way so specific, it showed they knew exactly what to spin and how. "If you like your health-care plan, you can keep your health-care plan, period."

Your existing policy had to pass muster; the admin would fight to the death to ensure that 60-year-old women have pediatric dental coverage.

....the president's victory lap approach on Tuesday, when he announced the purported 7.1 million enrollees. "The debate over repealing this law is over. The Affordable Care Act is here to stay. . . . was political showbiz of a particular sort, asking whether the picture given of a thing will counter the experience of the thing.

===========================================

The following stunning Noonan insight made me forget all the things I didn't like about her.

"Pelosi's urgings inspired Democrats, who for the next three years would carry on like blithering idiots making believe they'd read the bill and understood its implications. They were later taken aback by complaints from their constituents. "

The White House, on the other hand, seems to have understood what the bill would do, and lied in a way so specific it showed they knew exactly what to spin and how.

"Keep your plan" of course was the president, misrepresenting the facts of his signature legislative effort. Your existing policy had to pass muster with the administration, which would fight to the death to ensure that 60-year-old women have pediatric dental coverage.

Turns out Obamacare is a tax-financed vehicle for consolidating Dummycrat power w/ a multi-billion dollar slush fund.

The Untraceable $8 Billion ObamaCare PR Budget---truly govt fraud at its finest. Egged on by Pelosi, no one in Congress told Americans about Section 4002---which mandates an $8B untraceable fund to "promote" Obamacare (apparently b/c Boobamba had so little confidence in his signature legislation).

And remember, taxpayers....once in the hands of the Dummycrat criminal hordes, the tax billions are untraceable..... In 2010 Taxpayers are extorted $500 million, in 2011, $750 million, 2012, $1 billion, 2013, $1.25 billion, 2014, $1.5 billion and in 2015 and on, $2 billion ----

===========================================

Q. Why all those O/Care delays and the recent enrolloment extension?

A. Because Sibelius is aiding and abetting Scumocrats to register enrollees as Democrats.....and helping Obama to wire- transfer tax dollars billions. .

================================================

ACA SEC. 4002. PREVENTION AND PUBLIC HEALTH FUND.

The fact that old "rich white people" live longer than old poor persons of color is disturbing to liberals. However, one (of many) basic flaws underpinning Obamacare is that end result is not because persons of color don't receive as many mammograms or as much $100,000 chemotherapy as white people. It's a result of decades of behavior. That behavior might not cost any money to change, but it's extremely difficult to change.

It's a result of decades of behavior.

So true, but liberals don't care about the facts. When Eric Holder came out a couple of weeks ago, lamenting the statistical fact that black students have a plethora of more disciplinary problems and school suspensions when compared to whites and Asians, he never seemed to be able to grasp the reality that more black students have behavioral problems associated with poor parenting.

Many poor people have poor ways. You cannot be smoking your last $10 bucks while drinking a can of beer at 9 am. I drive by some neighborhoods, and this is EXACTLY what they are doing. You cannot eat garbage, become blatantly obese, and then expect to live a healthy life by the time your reach age 50.

They don’t have the slightest clue that they’re being scammed.

I call BS on that statement. Yes, there are the one's who are the "uneducated tools of the ideologues," but if you have ever spoken with these educated elitist, liberal progressives they know what is happening and they APPROVE of it. They completely understand what the endgame is and it isn't very pretty, it isn't moral, and it isn't social justice.

The mistake of the conservative base is becoming more and more apparent. Going after the low information voter to win them over isn't working and won't work when up against the propaganda machines of the Elite.

Our other mistake is exactly what I highlighted from your post...believing they don't have the slightest clue. In believing that premise, we allow the propaganda to continue and stand powerless over the conversation. We must find a way to overcome the strategy being employed. And this will be difficult for we even need "permits" to become pamphleteers.

This is where the actual written word, put on paper, needs to be put forth. Electronic media is wonderful and easy to use to contort facts and truth through snippets and soundbites. Put information into someone's hands that is solid, written, and within context and we can change the nation.

Electronic media is nothing but a fancy form of 'word of mouth,' a tower of Babel if you will, from which no one can discern truth. Consider historically, what the advent of the printed word brought to the people who learned to read it and reference it.

The electronic Tower of Babel has taken away man's ability to reason and logic.

The Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) should be renamed "BS." They don't "count" food or energy when figuring inflation. How convenient!

Anyone price chicken or coffee at their local supermarket these days? It would bet about the price equivalent to buying scallops and cognac in 2008.

In terms of our medical costs (which are breaking the back of this nation), we need to destroy the medical malpractice industry of vermin and vultures.

We have not - because the Democrats are bought and paid for by slime ball trial lawyers.

No, I disagree with you on that. The ACA does nothing to forward the life expectancy and isn't designed too either. It is designed with death panels and this was done not to control costs, but as a means to eliminate the less useful. As Meeker said decades ago regarding minimum wage and the role of the state in these people's lives:

... better that the state should support the inefficient wholly and prevent the multiplication of the breed than subsidize incompetence and unthrift, enabling them to bring forth more of their kind.” - Royal Meeker, U.S. Commissioner of Labor, under Woodrow Wilson

Their goal has nothing to do sympathy of the poor bastards, but the eventual elimination of them because of their behavior.

Destroying Medicare would be doing this country a huge favor. It is a massive, bloated entitlement program that simply cannot be sustained in a country with a demographic profile like ours.

When you see Republicans trying to "save" a monstrosity like this, you know the country isn't serious about facing these problems head-on.

“Destroying Medicare would be doing this country a huge favor. It is a massive, bloated entitlement program that simply cannot be sustained in a country with a demographic profile like ours. “

You’re right. I was pointing out that even their proposed bill of not-cutting Medicare is the same as cutting it because of inflation. So, even if it isn’t “cut” fewer doctors will accept it. Medicare will eventually exist in name only. Our politicians are gutless.

Medicare will be like Obamacare, a very expensive but non-functional program that’s worse than not having “insurance” at all. Incidentally, Congress recently passed a bill to interdict medications coming into the country from outside “for safety” reasons. This is an effort to force those of us going insurance-commando into buying Obamacare. The article on this stated that enforcement before the 2014 elections was unlikely.
