Are you sure it was Brendan Eich who made the statements? Someone else at Mozilla released a statement after he resigned.
I think his position was getting the job done and working with the team was more important than differences. But Eich failed to grasp what “diversity” is really about. I put the word in quotes since this is yet another example of Marxist-Leninist corruption of the language. Diversity now means adherence to the Party doctrine of attacking class enemies of the Party.
