I think I enjoyed his “Andy Hardy” stories best. They were light hearted, easy to watch and pleasant to remember.

Met him in person when I was working at channel 7 (WJHG-TV) in Panama City, FL
He came by to plug a local live show he was doing with his wife. He was a very warm, down-home kinda’ guy. He will be greatly missed here in the CONSERVATIVE Florida panhandle.

I won $100 for knowing that back in college. Long time ago. (Actually, my mother knew. I just phoned the radio station with the answer.)

The greatest male entertainer of the 20th Century; his frequent movie partner Judy Garland the greatest female entertainer.

Most of our fathers and even our fathers’ fathers never saw a Mickey Rooney movie, although Mickey Rooney did have greater market penetration among our fathers’ fathers’ fathers.

I think Sid Caesar, who died a couple months ago (at around the same age), had a bigger impact, although for some reason his name is considered less illustrious than Rooney, even though the later drooled too much for my taste. But I’ll miss Sid Caesar.

Old Hollywood was much better than the crap we have now..now we have the likes of Miley Cyrus showing off her butt on TV everyday..a shame, stars like Mickey Rooney and Shirley Temple will be missed

One of Rooney’s films I always found nostalgic was a little crime film he starred in called “Quicksand” (1950). Perfect little late-show item. An old favorite. I also recall a silly comedy he did, “The Atomic Kid” (1954), in which he was a doofus who survived an atomic-bomb test, leading him to glow-in-the-dark and be pursued by spies. Used to be a common afternoon movie on tv for the kiddie set.

The only time I saw him in person was when he was touring with Ann Miller in that “Sugar Babies” revue in the 1980s. It was sort of a tribute to burlesque. Always heard Rooney was a bit of a nut, from people who encountered him. But I always enjoyed most of his work. That “Naked City” appearance he made (mentioned in a post above) was indeed terrific.

My all-time favorite actor by far. Even in recent years, he still seemed like a kid.

Another Hollywood Hero has passed.

He served for a short time in the U.S. army during WW2.

Gosh, I thought Mickey was a perpetual kid. I guess this means that all of us will die some day :( RIP Mickey.
