Chabot: Dems scramble to help Jeanne Shaheen (NH)

Nervous Bay State Dems are scrambling to bolster U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen’s struggling re-election campaign in New Hampshire — with local top-tier fundraisers and political heavyweights rushing to help her battle Republican Scott Brown.

“It’s all hands on board,” said one top Massachusetts Democrat, who said the former governor is going to need, “a boatload of money,” to fight off Brown. The former Bay State Republican senator is a proven fundraiser and will likely get thousands from third parties looking to topple the Democratic majority in the Senate.

“Everybody feels that Jeanne Shaheen is vulnerable,” said the Dem, who noted that U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Gov. Deval Patrick have offered help. “Her main challenge will be money.”

Shaheen’s team recently brought on Massachusetts-based Democratic fundraiser Jon Patsavos, who has worked for Patrick and U.S. Sen. Edward Markey’s campaigns. The move highlights that Shaheen’s team values the true-blue state — especially as she battles with Brown in the more bipartisan New Hampshire.

Local Democratic heavyweights such as Alan Solomont said the fact that Brown refused to agree to a ban on outside money in the nationally watched campaign means outsider groups will flood the airwaves.

“It’s going to be a tough race, but voters in New Hampshire are too smart to be boondoggled by a lot of money from out of state,” said Solomont, a former top Massachusetts fundraiser who now serves as the dean of the Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service at Tufts University.

“I’m not doing any fundraising these days, but I’m certainly supporting people I believe in. I’m certainly contributing and I certainly believe in her candidacy,” he said.

I'm in MA and I'm already hearing the commercials. I don't know how Brown will do and frankly I hope he loses to Bob Smith, but I hope this is true and Shaheen is struggling.

Bob Smith is a has been and does not poll well with women. Brown polls well with women, especially independent women. This is the key to the election. NH is 1/3 independents. They always swing the elections. People like me will always vote for the conservative. My vote is a given in NH. I think I have received 3 Brown emails in the last week and one letter. Shaheen is extremely vulnerable because of her vote on Obamacare and her on statements regarding the unpopular law.

I sincerely hope you’re right. But Brown will run as a worthless moderate as he did here in 2012. I’d rather see him lose the primary, because he’ll likely lose the general.

Even if he is a moderate he still caucuses as a Republican. If the Republicans can get a majority, then Harry Reid is toast. Plus the Pubies control all the committees.

Shaheen is extremely vulnerable because of her vote on Obamacare and her statements regarding the unpopular law.

HOTAIR.COM reported Jeanne Shaheen backed Obama's position in 99 percent of her votes.

According to Congressional Quarterly’s 2013 analysis, every single embattled 2014 Senate Democrat voted the Obama line at least 90 percent of the time including Sen. Suckup Mark “Obamacare’s an amazing success story” Pryor.

A hotair.com video records the dramatic Christmas Eve roll call on Obamacare, in which every single Democrat in the chamber cast the deciding vote.

That kind of lock-stepping party loyalty has not been seen since 1940's era Europe.

Whoop dee damn do!! He’ll caucus with the republicans as long as he gets something out if it. Like Jim Jeffords before him, he’ll easily switch if it’s best for him.

I want the seat to change to republican but Brown shouldn’t be trusted.

Sometimes you have to pick between the lesser of two evils.
We do not ALL get to vote for Ted Cruz for Senator. Do not get me wrong. I am not enamored with Brown. I know what he is. Bob Smith can not win. Brown can. IF I have to choose between Brown and Shaheen, I will definitely vote for Brown.

Even when we thought we were getting a true conservative woman in Ayotte, we still got someone who was questionable on immigration. Brown is not perfect, but he is far better than Shaheen.

I had the same choice in 2012 and left my ballot blank. I couldn’t abide voting for him again and couldn’t reward his treachery with my vote.

You’re in NH so you would know, but why do you think Smith can’t win when he’s won before while you think Brown can win when he just lost.

NH can not be confused with Idaho or Oklahoma. Even most conservatives in NH are more Libertarian. There are not a lot of Southern Baptists here. This is the Live Free or Die state. To most that means do whatever you want as long as you are 18 years or older. Also, don’t tread on me. We want small government. This is the state with the largest house of representatives that make $100.00/year plus mileage. Our towns are mostly run by a unpaid board of selectmen. We have ballot voting where a 60% majority has to approve bond items like $6 million dollar school expansions.

My point is NH is fiscally conservative, socially liberal, ie LIBERTARIAN.

Brown cannot again ever get the ‘conservative’ base in Massachusetts, so he heads to New Hampshire which to me seems incomprehensible other than the fact that Shaheen is so very vulnerable.

Last year, in the Massachusetts special Senate election, Ed Markey won the seat with less than 14% of registered voters. Brown probably could have won that race but his standing with the 30-40% who always vote conservatively here were simply too unreliable for him.

I hate to cede the Senate to the Democrats again, but Scott Brown is his own worst enemy and I think that he is a real long shot in New Hampshire even though the carpetbagger charge is spurious as he apparently has seriously long term family ties there.

I voted. I just left my ballot blank for US Senate. I don’t vote for democrats but I’m not voting for somebody just because they have an “r” next to their name either. Brown loved the democrats and independents so much, I let him go after their votes, since he didn’t want mine (and probably thought I would vote for him because I had no other place to go).

But contrary to all the talking points, moderates do not attract democrat and independent votes. Without conservatives, moderates lose, as was demonstrated. And now Brown is moving on to NH to try to attract moderates and independents there. Good luck to him. We’re glad to be rid of him.

Often overlooked:

If the GOP gains a majority in the USS, no matter how "moderate" or "RINO" a handful of New England and Midwestern 'Pub Senators might be, then Jeff Sessions will become Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

But if the Dhimmis keep the majority, the Chairman of Judiciary will continue to be Patrick "Leaky" Leahy.

In other words, the choice is very easy.

Therefore, Go Scott Go!
