Report: Video shows Vance McAllister kissing staffer
Politico ^ | 7 Apr 2014 | JOHN BRESNAHAN and JAKE SHERMAN

Posted on 04/07/2014 5:52:39 PM PDT by mandaladon

Freshman GOP Rep. Vance McAllister (La.) - who ran as conservative Christian - has been caught on video in a romantic encounter with a woman believed to be on his congressional staff just before Christmas. The Ouachita Citizen, a newspaper based in West Monroe, La., posted a Dec. 23 surveillance video purportedly from inside McAllister’s district office in Monroe.

The video shows McAllister kissing a woman identified by the newspaper as a congressional staffer for the first-term lawmaker. Federal payroll records show she is a part-time aide who began working for McAllister the day after he won his seat last year.

McAllister won the special election on Nov. 16 to replace Rep. Rodney Alexander (R-La.). McAllister won in the heavily Republican district by playing up his conservative credentials, including his Christian faith and his 16-year marriage.

What a loser.

Here's the surveillance video, along with McAllister's "apology"

http://www.hannapub.com/ouachitacitizen/news/article_dce7369e-be77-11e3-9b86-0017a43b2370.html

"There's no doubt I've fallen short and I'm asking for forgiveness," McAllister said in a statement. "I'm asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve. Trust is something I know has to be earned whether your a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I've disappointed."

” What is it with Louisiana? “:

It is possibly due to their French social/historical component - French are somewhat more tolerant of infidelity.

Ever since the French Revolution they have rejected most sexual restrictions, including incest. Incest was just made illegal a year or two ago, IIRC.

"What a jackass. Why can’t people live up to their marriage vows?"

Kate, I agree with you totally. McAllister is a cad and a sinner. But I have a contrary point to make, one that my wife agrees with so this is not just a male perspective.

Why do men cheat? Yes, many times just because they can. Politicians by definition exude power, and this both attracts women and makes men feel invulnerable. But sometimes a lack of love, and yes, sex, are the final things that push them over the edge.

This came up in my discussions with my bride when both Elliott Spitzer and Governor Mark Sanford were both caught cheating. They had lovely wives and, by all appearances, nice marriages. I can even write off Spitzer -- as a rich leftist, he perhaps doesn't believe in morality and sin -- but Sanford was a conservative Christian.

Remember when Senator and Presidential candidate John Edwards had that affair with that other gal? You had to look far and wide, but one obscure account had his wife Elizabeth referring to her husband the Senator as "my little hick" and basically disrespecting him. Nothing will drive a man into the arms of another woman more than a wife who doesn't appreciate him for who he is.

As a middle-aged Christian man married for over 20 years, I can say categorically that all wives -- okay, at least 8 out of 10 -- turn off in the sack by age 40. And their husbands are frustrated enough that they talk about it over campfires or on other guy outings after a beer or two loosens their tongue.

An honest liberal named Caitlin Flanagan studied this many years ago, and made the politically incorrect conclusion that while wives are not the ones sinning when a man strays, if a wife wants to keep hubby's eyes focused on her then she needs to make sex ... [this will get me flamed] ... somewhat sacrificial. Dr. Laura made the same point in her book, "Care and Feeding of Husbands."

All those old adages are operative: don't go to bed angry, don't use sex as a weapon, don't go on sex strikes, etc. By age 40, sex is like chocolate to a woman -- a treat to savored on occasion. Sex is like food to a man, something more essential to daily happiness. In other words, if the wife is satisfied with the frequency of sex, then you can bet that her husband is not. If she is turning him down 9 times out of 10, you can bet he is stewing inside, complaining to his friends, and looking more hungrily at other women.

So I stopped jumping to conclusions about men who stray. McAllister is a cad, a weenie, an adulterer, a sinner, a bozo, a dumbsh-t. But as he sits down with his wife to pick up the pieces, I hope that the above points are also topics of discussion.

Seems you don’t know too many women over the age of 40.
Sorry, your theory is backwards in relation to a woman’s age.

I agree with the rest, that being, remaining intimate with your life partner is vital. Just not sure how you came up with the idea that so many women are frigid past 40 years old.

Case in point - Ashley Madison with $60 million in annual revenue:

The Business of Infidelity Experiences Record Growth as Online Dating Leader AshleyMadison.com Surpasses 13 Million Members

Controversial dating site AshleyMadison.com is celebrating its 10th anniversary by continuing with aggressive global expansion plans, which have already established the online affair service in 17 countries. The U.S. continues to lead growth with over nine million members – an indication of how mainstream the business infidelity has become.

Personally, I'm not sure how you came up with the idea that so many women aren't.

"Seems you don’t know too many women over the age of 40.

Ha! Good points. I know a lot of women over the age of 40 but NONE of them tell me about their sexual proclivities. But their husbands sure do. So either their wives are frigid or their wives are cheating. I'm guessing that the wives just lost interest.

As for how I know women past 40 are frigid, again, I cite Caitlin Flanagan and Dr. Laura, confirmed with personal observation. If you're wondering, Google "the sexless marriage" and you'll get a ton of hits. Lots of articles and lots of books.

What's curious about these articles and books is that the sexless marriage is a recent phenomenon, according to the stats. [I haven't read them, I just read Flanagan and Dr Laura and they both referenced them.] I won't go into the reasons here. But I'm guessing it has to do with modern notions of marriage and how these have slipped into a woman's psyche. Also, I expect that some of those notions of "all sex is rape" and "all men are rapists" has had an impact as well. If a woman is under 50 she has read, heard, or studied the authors of these dubious works.

So THAT's how I came up with the idea.

I'll have to disagree in part. I do think men cheat when their wives disrespect them and so, when that's the case, some of the blame - but by no means the bulk of it - should fall on the woman. John Gosselin comes to mind as a particularly hen pecked husband. I don't think there's a person alive who didn't at least partially blame that wife.

However, I think you're wrong about the sex drives of women after 40. A poor sex life is in itself not the cause of a rocky marriage, it is a symptom. If a marriage is good, both partners should be willing to work to meet the other one's needs.

1. The French Revolution occurred in France. The Cajuns are
French, from Canada. It had no impact on Louisiana
society whatsoever.

2. Incest was declared illegal in the state’s foundational
law code.

3. Have you never heard of Bill Clinton, Barney Frank,

Essentially, the wife needs to make her husband a priority. This is especially true if he is the bread-winner and enables her to focus on the kids. I’ve seen too many SAHM’s end up back in the work force because their husband left. They go from SAHM doing the sandwiches and school pickup to being a single mom with a FT job and the kids in day care. The wives were so focused on the kids, they didn’t notice the husband looking for a wife. And he ended up finding one.

"A poor sex life is in itself not the cause of a rocky marriage, it is a symptom."

And I would've agreed with you entirely on this point until the last 10 years, when all of our friends, and we, have entered middle age (40+).

I have personal friends and family members who have, on the surface, good marriages that fit the "sexless marriage" definition. Basically, the wife has a lofty college degree and doesn't feel she needs to give in if she is not in the mood. The husband is dedicated to her and the marriage, and tired of being turned down, he stops asking. One husband confided to me that his wife hadn't touched him in a year.

Flangan's article is entitled "The Wifely Duty" and it is meant to provoke and cause howls among women, especially feminists. But it is meant to highlight what these gals did not learn in college or their marriage classes, that men have different sex needs and are actually quite simple. You can spend thousands of dollars in therapy working out issues with anger, frustration, work-home balance, etc., but if the wife just engages in "the act" on a regular basis then all of a sudden good things happen. Roses are delivered to the home on a Thursday. He takes the kids to the park without asking. He actually picks up after himself in the bedroom and makes the bed. He agrees with nary a comment to get the new refrigerator and let her spend money on new clothes. All because she decided ("Flanagan's words") to put out for his sake, not hers. As Flanagan quoted, some of these married gals are giddy with their newfound power over their husbands, and all they had to do was act a little frisky.

Christian organizations have classes about this for women, and my wife went to one with friends. They all came out shaking their heads saying, "I never knew" or "this really bothers me." That's because of messages in college and the media that if she isn't in the mood, then by God he's not going to get anything. Especially if she's been ticked off for months about the garbage, his moodiness, his spending too much time watching ESPN, hanging out with his buddies.

Our grandmothers would have viewed this as common sense. But then again, they weren't filled with education and media that is saturated with messages like "all sex is rape" and "all men are rapists."

So we're in agreement but for the fact that Baby Boomers, at least the younger Boomers, live with the echo of the feminist movement.

Yes, I agree that not all marital problems will be solved by a frisky wife. But if she's wondering why they just don't get along, and she realizes that they have basically a sex-free marriage, she should at least try fixing that part first.

Not to counter completely your point, but I have no desire to have sex with a woman who is doing it as a sacrifice...if she doesn’t want to be having sex with me (unless there is a legitimate physical or emotional reason) any longer, I will find it elsewhere, as will nearly every other person on the planet.

I don’t condone cheating, but it is absolutely unrealistic for any woman to deny her husband sex routinely and then be upset when he goes elsewhere for it. Same would be true if the roles were reversed.

But getting back to my point, if a woman doesn’t want to have sex with me, but is just doing it out of sacrifice and duty, then it sure wouldn’t keep me from straying... if you treat sex like a chore your partner will stray, its only a matter of time.

As to the specifics of this case, who knows why this guy was fooling around, but the fact he was doing it so flagrantly just shows stupidity.
