Lawyers say Ms. Lerner and her legal team may have stumbled on several occasions, including by initially professing her innocence but refusing to talk to Congress last year, then agreeing to provide information to the Justice Department without any promise of immunity, and then refusing yet again to talk to House investigators about the same subject.

In a letter last week, Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell E. Issa, California Republican, said he believed Rep. Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland, the ranking Democrat on the committee, was trying to work out a secret deal with Ms. Lerner that would involve immunity from prosecution.

If found in contempt and the House then refers this to the Justice Department rather than using their inherent power -

Can there be ANY doubt that the Republicans and Democrats are one in the same?

She’s probably afraid of getting a dart in the neck and having a heart attack or driving into a traffic light at 80 miles an hour or more or getting onto a flight and getting lost at sea. I bet there have been a lot of burn notices served during this administration. Enough to ensure that the assasins aren’t around long enough to go turncoat on him.

Let ordinary ‘Joe Citizen’ put on the charade that Lerner has been doing and watch for the Constitutional termites to come to the door. Ms. Learner should go down in the history books as a epic example of government infidelity. At least 50% of the electorate view such behavior as acceptable. There is no longer any such thing as shame which I think Eisenhower applied to Senator McCarthy who was later proven to be on the correct path.

"That means when she showed up March 5,...."

No wonder she pleaded the fifth. They picked the wrong date.

the Ways and Means Committee will debate whether to refer her to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution “for violations of one or more criminal statutes based on evidence the committee has uncovered in the court of the investigation of IRS abuses.”

Have the Sergeant at Arms arrest her now; THEN refer her to the DOJ.

Lerner was caught in several lies she made to the Oversight Committee staff prior to taking the 5th. I believe some of the false statements were in written form.

Issa seems to be just the sort of compromised Republican that the Dems like to have heading that committee.

May be her lawyers were smart enough to realized that Congress doesn’t have the guts to do anything about it.

I think this is what’s known as the perfect crime,The President appoints crooks to all the law enforcement agencies, then breaks laws at will, who is going to prosecute, especially when you have the media in the bag and reports none of it. Total corruption, institutionalized

Of course it is, but if you can't get cooperation any other way...

Referral might take a while you know. Just can't find the keys...

And they’ll finger Bob Bauer (wife is Anita Dunn of Mao fame), former White House Counsel who left to become BHO’s personal attorney at Perkins Coie, for coordination.
