GOPís Alan Simpson backs gay marriage in ad
Politico ^ | 04/07/2014 | KATIE GLUECK

Posted on 04/08/2014 5:54:52 AM PDT by GIdget2004

Former Sen. Alan Simpson, a Republican, is making the case for a “live and let live” approach to same-sex marriage in a new television ad buy targeting Western states, just as a federal appeals court in Denver prepares to take up the issue later this week.

“Whether you’re gay or lesbian or straight, if you love someone and you want to marry them, marry them,” Simpson, of Wyoming, says in the spot.

The six-figure buy, sponsored by the pro-gay marriage group Freedom to Marry, is slated to start airing on Tuesday on national cable channels, as well as locally in Wyoming, Oklahoma and Colorado.

Those states are within the geographic jurisdiction of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which is weighing a gay marriage case concerning Utah on Thursday, and is set to take up another one involving Oklahoma later this month — the cases could ultimately reach the Supreme Court.

“I’m a Republican,” Simpson says. “The party’s basic core is, government out of your life and the right to be left alone.”

Go back to sleep Alan. The homos haven't used the 'live and let live' canard for decades.

They're far beyond that and well into 'kiss our *ss or we'll throw you and your family out into the street, breeder' territory now.

From Wikipedia bio: “In 2001, Simpson became Honorary Chairman of the Republican Unity Coalition (RUC), a gay/straight alliance within the Republican Party.”

In other words, he’s been a gay activist for many years. Probably did his share of foot tapping in men’s restrooms during his political career.

Freedom to Marry? I didn’t know marriage was illegal. Should I let my youngest son marry his wagon? States got different ages for marriage, so if a 15 year old married an 18 year old is that pedophilia? Some states can let you marry at 15.

'basic core' of the GOP is to get 'government out of your life.

Then stop the government from trying to define marriage. Give to Caesar that which is Caesar's and give to God that which is God's.

"Total fraud. Not a Republican."

From the best I can tell, Alan Simpson is a 'John McCain' Republican. That, or the only time the media ever pays attention to him is when he doesn't tow the party line. Hell, what IS the 'party line' anymore? If someone asked me what a "Republican" is, I honestly wouldn't know what to tell them or have a good answer.

Exactly. Government should just stay out. Perverts will still be perverts whether gay marriage is legal or not. The debate over this issue is a waste of time.

This is the Alan Simpson of Simpson/Mazzoli.

The law that flooded the country with 5 million illegals-turned-citizens and killed the GOP in California.

Every republican was a conservative when Reagan was president. Most, like Alan here, became 'kinder and gentler' as soon as RWR retired.

Right. Once you get government involved you are opening pandora’s box.

The debate will never end and gays will always demand more “rights”. Government should just stay out or the damage will be irreversible. There should be no laws even mentioning the word gay, faggot or homosexual.

Government can’t ban gay marriage. Every ban is getting struck down by the courts. Right now government is promoting and encouraging gay marriage.

If you want government to stay involved you are either for gay marriage or you are delusional about what’s going on.

“The party’s basic core is, government out of your life and the right to be left alone.”

I don't see anything inherently wrong with that.

You do when you see the natural result of that thought:

A repeal of DADT, DOMA, and allowing queers in the military for starters. Then you add in laws granting special rights for the pervs. Then there is the backlash against Christians and normal conservatives with Brendan Eich being the latest target.

Look; the government has ALWAYS had a moral and social voice in our laws and if you take that value away we will fail.

“You WANT the states to allow queer sex marriages if the voters so decide.”

That’s Ted Cruz’s position:

“the federal government has tried to re-define marriage, and to undermine the constitutional authority of each state to define marriage consistent with the values of its citizens.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2014/02/13/cruz-lee-introduce-state-marriage-defense-act/

From a constitutional standpoint, marriage should be regulated at the state level. But my personal opinion is that government should not be involved at any level. I look to the Catholic church for my definition of marriage, not to government.

The problem isn’t the sex act... it’s that gays are turning their brand of sexual activity into a political movement.

To do that they need people who allow them to pretend to be victims...

If we look at how much money gay’s make - or their power base - it’s obvious they’re NOT victims. When they can fire CEO’s for believing in traditional marriage they’ve crossed the line into thuggery... we can fight back but not in the way we’ve been fighting. They’ve turned our tactics into recruitment posters.
