Jeb Bush Exposes the Truth of Open Borders Ethos
Madison Project ^ | April 7th, 2014 | Daniel Horowitz

Posted on 04/08/2014 5:57:13 AM PDT by Bratch

The debate over illegal immigration is one of the most frustrating issues for those who approach public policy logically.  Seldom do we have so much history to draw upon when crafting new policies like we do with illegal immigration, yet nobody in Washington is willing to learn the lessons of the past.

We have seen time and again how one amnesty begets another because liberalizing our immigration laws without a commensurate plan to prevent future flows of illegal immigration will only encourage more of the same.  The solution is not an enigma.  All we have to do is actually implement the border and interior enforcement mechanisms that both Republicans and Democrats claim to support and eliminate all welfare and birthright citizenship for future waves of illegal immigration.  At that point, the question of what to do with those already here will be minimized and any legal status granted will be done from a position of strength – knowing that we will not encourage a new wave of illegal migration.

So if all sides supposedly agree on the need to prevent a new wave of immigration, and in light of the past failures of an ‘amnesty first’ approach, why aren’t the liberals willing to try our approach?

On Fox News Sunday, former Governor Jeb Bush (R-FL) provided us with a candid answer, revealing what we have always known about our opponents in this debate.  The point of contention is not just about the status of those already here illegally.  Rather, it’s about the essence of our existence as a sovereign nation with defined borders.  Individuals like Bush support illegal immigration and open borders as an ends to itself – even an ideal.  They actually extol the virtues of illegal immigrants over Americans.  Here is what the former Florida governor had to say yesterday:

“I’m going to say this and it will be on tape, and so be it. The way I look at this is someone who comes to our country because they couldn’t come legally, they come to our country because their family’s dad who loves their children was worried that their children didn’t have food on the table, and they wanted to make sure their family was intact. And they crossed the border because they had no other means to work to be able to provide for their family. Yes, they broke the law, but it’s not a felony. it’s kind of — it’s a — it’s an act of love. It’s an act of commitment to your family. I honestly think that’s a different kind of crime that should be, there should be a price paid, but it shouldn’t be — it shouldn’t rile people up that people are actually coming to this country to provide for their families. And the idea that we’re not going to fix this but with comprehensive reform ends up trapping these people, when they could make a great contribution for their own their families but also for us.

Taking Jeb’s approach to its logical conclusion, it is clear that his side has no desire to prevent future waves of illegal migration, and in fact, they would oppose actions to do so.  Indeed, their vocal efforts to delegitimize our laws, borders, and sovereignty have already engendered an increase in illegal border-crossings.

As for Jeb’s false sense of love, it is born out of the same dyslexic priorities of the left on fiscal policy in general.  What liberals don’t understand is that public policy in this country cannot be geared towards accommodating every person living in poverty throughout the world.  Constitutional governance must take into account the best policies that benefit the broadest number of Americans without redistributing wealth while still being within the confines of the Constitution.

Hence, on paper it would make sense to redistribute wealth from the richest among us and support those who live in poverty.  After all, the wealthy do not need all the money they earn, and it can certainly go towards a better cause.  However, conservatives intuitively understand that it is not the job of this country and this nation’s government to take the fruits of labor from some and redistribute to others.  Moreover, it is counterintuitive, mitigates economic growth, and has a net effect of creating more poverty.

The immigration issue is no different.  Undoubtedly, there are many impoverished people in this world of 7 billion individuals, particularly in Latin America.  However, it is not the duty of our government to take care of the world.  We already lack the resources to properly foster economic opportunities for those who are subject to the jurisdiction of this nation.  And indeed we currently have the most generous immigration policy in the world.  In recent decades, we have let in over a million new immigrants annually, many of whom are from penurious parts of the world.

The idea that we must support a welfare system for millions more throughout the world represents a false sense of morality – the same morality that fuels the pagan beliefs of the modern-day Baal worshipers who advocate redistributionist policies.  In fact, those Republicans who advocate for open borders are even worse because they are extrapolating the traditional liberal ethos on a domestic level to a global level.

Ironically, open borders Republicans are promoting illegal immigration for the expressed purpose of lining the pockets of big business with cheap labor.  It is precisely because they intend to pay them cheap wages that the average taxpayer will be caught holding the bag paying the massive tab for their welfare checks and healthcare bills.  Their highbrow rhetoric about love and compassion is about as credible as a blue city mayor exalting the successes of socialism in creating economic opportunity.

Furthermore, the creation of an unnaturally large flow of people from impoverished countries will artificially depress wages and lower the standard of living for Americans, particularly recent legal immigrants.

Unlike our liberal counterparts, conservatives believe that solving every socio-economic problem – certainly those outside of our borders – on the backs of American taxpayers is beyond the scope, the ability, or the moral foundation of the government.  The job of our nation is to protect liberty, economic freedom, and religious freedom so that the greatest number of people in this country can reap the blessings of God’s gifts.  In turn, as individuals and practitioners of the world’s major religions, we care for all of humanity through prayer and charity.

But until the leaders of either party learn about the fundamentals of borders and sovereignty, our declining Republic and economic system will continue to inhibit us from serving as the beacon of light for the rest of the world.

Since this story broke, I don't think anyone's bother to report that Jeb's wife, Columba, is Mexican. She's obviously influenced his views.

Also, his son is running for office in Texas..Like he really needed his dad to open his mouth now..

93% of illegal Mexicans illegally crossing the border had jobs in Mexico.

So they aren't crossing to 'feed their families', they are crossing to make more money. And likely to get their share of US taxpayer funded benefits to augment their income.

We've got to stop buying the line of tear jerking crap the open border frauds like Jeb Bush have been peddling to the masses for years.

For the last 40 years the traitors in Washington have done all they can to replace American voters with Mexicans.

I don’t know anything about George P’s positions. He’s running for Railroad commission, which is a very powerful post in Texas, and a steppingstone to higher office. Jeb’s words won’t help him. And frankly, given that his mother probably shaped/influenced his views, I’d be worried.

Nice insights. Jebby's "act of love" is as destructive to his ambitions as Perry's "you don't have a heart" remark.

The invaders have no food on the table is bigtime BS. The US gravy train is the big lure.

==========================================

A huge "affinity" scheme was exposed in Cali perpetrated by a latino father and son. One victim (of many) was a woman who spoke not a word of English. She lost $100,000 investing in the scam....and also owned a $100,000 home free and clear.

Where did she get all that money? What kind of income could she command---not speaking English?

Many other victims were similarly situated---investing big money---not able to speak a word of English.

Jeb Bush is not a clear thinker when it comes to Mexicans, Hispanics, illegal aliens, border security and immigration reform.

He is biased and has no credibility on the issue.

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Mrs. Bush met in 1971 in Mrs. Bush’s hometown of Leon, Guanajato, Mexico.

The former Columba Garnica Callo, she and her future husband met while Jeb was teaching English in an exchange program for Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts.

After he graduated from the University of Texas, he and Columba married in 1974.

... most frustrating issues for those who approach public policy logically...

Public policy, that effected by government, is sometimes rooted in established law. Sometimes not, as with this current government IGNORING established law to effect political policy that suits one party's perceived needs.

It is when pandering, simpering sycophants and appeaser RINOs start to also purposefully blur 'policy' with 'law' is when we need to get rid of them.

Bush - ANY Bush has NOTHING to contribute anymore. NOTHING!

We HAD a President, admittedly a compassionate conservative, who admirably confronted terror to this country and kept us safe. He ALSO neglected our economy, reigned over unchecked spending and debt increase, while refusing to confront liberals and their unchecked and ravenous actions to make things even worse. He CREATED the Department of Homeland Security and the TSA - what better examples of freedom-taking tyranny does one need?

Finally, his unanswered accusations, his ignoring of creeping debt and spending, and a general domestic laissez faire attitude towards Democrats set the stage for, encouraged and resulted in the Despot which now controls our present and future existence.

Don't ever say the word "Bush" to me again when it comes to a politician who has anything to say that I might want to hear. Ever!

The solution is not an enigma.

Concur. The solution is easy. Implementing the solution is the problem.

Few, if any, politicians are intent on enforcement of existing laws and implementation of changes to perks.

When it comes to immigration, illegals etc., no attention - none - should be given to the opinions of people like Jeb who has a Mexican spouse.

They have no reasoned, logical opinions on this subject - just emotional reactions. His making a statement like the “act of love” statement sounds to me as if he is deliberately torpedoing his chances of ever becoming president.

Maybe. Perhaps he feels pressured against his will into running by the family's silver haired matriarch.

On the other hand, he may just be that out of touch with the lives of average people who are exposed to this problem every day. Another family trait.

What about MY family?

What is the priority here; my family first or an illegal alien's family?

Jeff Bush loves undocumented immigrants, but, where is his love for the millions of Americans unemployed? There are 91 million Americans out of the work force. Thanks to Obama we have the lowest participation in the work force since the 1970’s and some demagogues want to open wide our borders to hundreds of millions around the world who would love to enjoy the American dream... but that dream is becoming in an American nightmare for those born here and those who came legally to enjoy our way of life loving the U.S. as much as their country of birth.

What is even more aggravating is that people who entered the country illegally are demanding rights and privileges that American citizens do not enjoy and they did not dare to demand from the government of their own country.

California used to be the richest state of America. Now it is almost bankrupt. Anybody can see the result of uncontrolled illegal immigration, and companies are leaving to Texas, Florida and other red states with less taxes and better incentives to invest and prosper.

In fact, unemployment is now lower in Mexico than in U.S.; perhaps Americans will start moving south.

Jeff Bush extends the red carpet to undocumented migrants.

THE MOST DANFEROUS GANG IN AMERICA

Arian Campo-Flores, Newsweek, Mar. 28, 2005

The signs of a new threat in northern Virginia emerged ominously in blood-spattered urban streets and rural scrub.

Two summers ago the body of a young woman who had informed against her former gang associates was found on the banks of the Shenandoah River, repeatedly stabbed and her head nearly severed.

Last May in Alexandria, gang members armed with machetes hacked away at a member of the South Side Locos, slicing off some of his fingers and leaving others dangling by a shred of skin. Only a week later in Herndon, a member of the 18th Street gang was pumped full of .38-caliber bullets, while his female companion, who tried to flee, was shot in the back. The assailant, according to a witness, had a large tattoo emblazoned on his forehead. It read MS, for Mara Salvatrucha, the gang allegedly responsible for all these attacks.

At the nearby headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, agents—many of whom live in these communities—fielded the reports with mounting alarm. But Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, wasn’t terrifying just northern Virginia. “They were popping up everywhere,” says Chris Swecker, assistant director of the FBI’s criminal investigative division. “It seemed like we were hearing more and more about MS-13.” Then one day last fall, FBI Director Robert Mueller called Swecker into his office. “You have a mandate to go out and address this gang,” Mueller told him. Mueller declared MS-13 the top priority of the bureau’s criminal-enterprise branch—which targets organized crime—and authorized the creation of a new national task force to combat it.

The task force, which includes agencies like the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), aims to take on MS-13 much as the FBI once tackled the Mafia.

Composed of mostly Salvadorans and other Central Americans—many of them undocumented—the gang has a uniquely international profile, with an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 members in 33 states in the United States (out of more than 700,000 gang members overall), and tens of thousands more in Central America. It’s considered the fastest-growing, most violent and least understood of the nation’s street gangs—in part because U.S. law enforcement has not been watching as closely as it might have.

The rest of the history
