Chicago preacher James Meeks dumps Dems, backs GOP gubernatorial candidate
Fox News ^ | 7 April 2014 | Mike Tobin

Posted on 04/08/2014 8:28:52 AM PDT by Gamecock

The choir sang hallelujah as the congregation of 15,000 clapped and sang along. Reverend James Meeks ratcheted up the intensity of his speech. “Man looks at the outside,” he shouted rearing his head back. “But God looks at your heart! Are you with me here?”

Judging by the response, Meeks had the faithful at Salem Baptist Church hanging on his every word.“One hundred percent with Reverend Meeks,” said parishioner Eugene Harris outside the mega-church on Chicago’s fiercely Democratic South Side.

He speaks of the gun violence that plagues Chicago’s West and South Sides, the poverty and the appearance that there is no end in sight. “Our schools are still broken and getting worse. We’re last in employment or business. Our neighborhoods are deplorable,” says Meeks. “And we still get the same promises from the Democratic party, but we don’t get any deliverable. I think it’s time we should look at another candidate.”

In my experience, ecstatic black church goers will shout "amen" to anything a preacher says.

And then will go out and do the exact opposite.

Fiercely Democratic South Side???

The South Side is also fiercely African-American, fiercely violent, fiercely full of every social pathology you can think of.

Is there a relationship between Democrat voting patterns and social problems??????

"In my experience, ecstatic black church goers will shout "amen" to anything a preacher says."

My experience is simular, except it doesn't seem to matter what color the person setting in the church is. They say Amen to everthing except when the the plate is passed.

First Rand Paul and now Bruce Rauner. Both GOP candidates who have decided to try to rationally engage black voters by listening to them first and then, hopefully, explaining how conservative values can positively influence their lives and their children’s futures.

Rev. Meeks is the first to indicate publicly that he’s willing to give the GOP a chance as a result. Let’s hope he’s just the start. Fixing the mess in the center cities should be at the top of the Republican agenda, but doing it and getting credit for doing it are two different things, as DeBlasio’s election in NYC proved.

To get credit, GOP candidates have to listen first, then convince black leaders that they’re sincere in intending to address their problems, not with more disabling welfare programs, but by rebuilding conservative family values and a work ethic.

If this effort by Paul and Rauner works, it will be huge. And it should work; blacks have been taken for granted by liberals for years, and no more so than under our current President who has done nothing for them, absolutely nothing. (Well there are the free phones, I guess.)

You go to the the wrong chruch!

"David and all the Israelites were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs and with harps, lyres, timbrels, cymbals and trumpets."1 Chronicles 13:9

The Bible speaks of trees clapping their hands in praise, and oceans and the mountains exalting God. All of creation is designed to praise him. Should not the praise from his greatest of creations be the loudest?

It’s OK, Rauner is a liberal Combiner and designated winner for November over Quinn. No different from 1972 when Je$$e Jack$on and the Black political establishment of the South Side told the folks to vote for leftist RINO Chuck Percy for Senator.

With the Combiner runoff between Quinn & Rauner (with the latter being the clear “decided” anointed winner), I’m guessing the only vote for anti-Combiner Conservatives is Mike Oberline, the Constitution Party candidate.

>> Post #25. Rauner is Rahm’s puppet. This is a Illinois Combiner love-fest, ain’t nothing “Conservative” or “Republican” about it. <<

No kidding. The marxist Dems running this state aren't even trying to hide their support for Rauner. Mike Madigan has even been talking him up (see http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2014/03/madigan-and-rauner-.html ).

Now we have Jesse Jackson's second-in-command at Rainbow-PUSH openly endorsing Rauner. Meeks is an ultra-liberal black activist but was running against another black DemocRAT in a 3-way race for the State Senate, so he wooed conservative voters for years by noting that he differs from Jesse Sr. by being "pro-life" and "pro-family". Of course Meeks would NEVER be caught dead endorsing a pro-life and pro-family Republican over a pro-death Democrat. Now the GOP nominates an abortion-loving, pro-gay RINO and the "pro-life" Meeks happily endorses him. Gotta love the irony of his "principles".

A Rauner governorship will be a return to the George Ryan era where the RAT mayor of Chicago gets carte blanche "bipartisan" support from the "Republican" Governor in Springfield to enact whatever he wants. For freepers not familiar with Illinois politics, think of Rauner as the Illinois version of Michael Bloomberg.

We went through this whole dog and pony show in 2010 when a bunch of Mark Kirk apologists here laughed off the idea of a bipartisan combine and claimed electing Kirk would "embarrass Obama" and "stop Dick Durbin". Well, Kirk proved that wasn't true the moment he was sworn in. He has gotten chummy with the most leftist Democrats in Washington and is now Durbin's BFF. Every single one of the "conservative" campaign promises he made to get elected ("Kirk will not support any type of amnesty until the border is secured first", etc.) have been broken.

Michael Oberline is currently the only conservative alternate to the two liberal combiners running for Governor, and that's IF Oberline gets on the ballot. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to kick him off with a technicality, like they did in 2006 when Randy Stufflebeam ran against unofficial Democrat Topinka and official Democrat Blagojevich.

Fieldmarshaldj, I agree about Mike Oberline. I think that Gov. Quinn will get 53% of the vote. Since the race won’t be close, I hope Oberline will get about 8% of the vote, to ensure that Illinois will have a conservative party.

Oh, no, I do expect Quinn to lose (I’ll add I don’t believe he won in 2010, that was pure fraud). Rauner is now the Combine’s “designated winner” in the same way Mark Kirk was over Alexi G. The only way Quinn wins again is precisely if a large contingent of anti-Combiners votes for Oberline, but he’ll probably only end up with a desultory % of the vote. Too many folks in IL actually will go along with the myth that this is a clean election with two clear-cut choices.

Quinn is toast. It’s laughable to think he’d get anywhere near 53%, Phil, laughable, he had to massively cheat to beat Brady by less than 1 point, a RINO with combine approval will beat him easily. Start calling Rinoauer the Governor-Elect.

The Constitution party guy, Oberline, will be lucky to get 1% (as Billyboy says if he’s even on the ballot at all), he’ll likely come in last behind the Green and the Libertarian. I’m not a big fan of the Constitution Party. The last thing we need is their candidates getting 8% statewide on consistent basis, getting reform conservatives nominated on the GOP line is the ONLY path to victory with plurality elections. The Constitution party runs candidates against conservative Republicans too, they don’t target RINOs.

Oberline will have to bother to come up with a website to explain his policies if he expects my vote, if “facebook” is as serious as he takes his campaign then I wouldn’t even bother casting a protest vote for him.

I’m thinking of just taking a duke and casting that instead of a ballot.

Meeks is a hardcore leftist Democrat on every issue besides abortion and gay marriage (and by "hardcore", I mean this guy is so liberal he makes Al Franken blush). He's only endorsing Rauner because his combine masters told him to, and promoting him from the pulpit so Rauner can woo a few black voters who otherwise would never vote Republican. All they need is the black vote to go from 95% Quinn in 2010 to 90% Quinn in 2014 and Rauner could squeak in.

The media is playing it up with headlines like "Meeks abandons Dem Party", which of course is total BS -- Meeks is still good graces with the RAT party bosses and is supporting all the other marxist Dems further down the ticket.

What really sickens me is that Rauner will likely win and Oberweis will likely get crushed for reasons that have nothing to do with idealogy, but the GOP establishment will have yet another example to use why conservatives are "unelectable in Illinois" and we need to run more RINOs in the future to "win".

Makes me sick just thinking about it.

Did y'all see the latest Rauner commercial where he says, "I'm a Republican", then his wife chimes in, "I'm a Democrat!"

Almost busted my TV. I'll gladly put a "Don't Blame Me I Voted For Bill Brady" bumper sticker on the back of my car.

The only thing about the GOP Primary that surprised me was how many dems jumped in to vote for Dillard. I looked at the numbers in the Truax/Milkman race and there was around 100K more votes in the Gov Race. Too bad the dims didn't vote for Truax, thinking Oberweiss would be tougher to beat, guess they were just lazy. Atleast, we'd then have one candidate on the GOP Ticket to support.

There were quite a few cut-off-your-nose-to-spit-in-your face "Tea Party" types in 2010 that announced they were "staying home" because Bill Brady wasn't perfect and "We can do better than him". The most conservative GOP nominee in 60 years and they decided to throw a temper tantrum because he voted the wrong way on one or two bills. Well, I guess we found out what their idea of "better" is in 2014, with so many self-appointed "Tea Party leaders" in Illinois endorsing liberal combiner Bruce Rauner in the primary. I fully intend to return the favor they gave us in 2010 by stabbing Bill Brady in the back. Screw Rauner and the donkey he rode in on.

I haven't seen it yet.

Disgusting. And I'm sorry that's just wrong, the damn Governor can't literally be sleeping with the enemy. Can't trust a guy who has a dem whispering in his ear every night. Even if I liked the guy that would still trouble me, but offhand I can't think of a decent Republican with an enemy spouse.

They obviously weren't given any instructions on other races from their union masters. I'd think that the rats would prefer to face Oberdouche, since he's a 100% certain loser.

I have no problem with our candidates against old man White and Princess Lisa, but they are sadly both going to lose, badly. White is senile.

The worst all of is Topkina running against Paul Simon's daughter, vomit.

In 2012, in Illinois, Obama got 58% of the vote. That proves that the majority of IL voters vote for Democrats, for high offices. I’m being optimistic when I predict that Quinn will get 53%.

Christ Phil, Obama was popular here and Romney didn't contest the state. Quinn got 47% last time cheating against a downstate Republican who didn't have the full throated support of some in his own party and he's LESS popular now. And he doesn't have Scott Lee Cohen on the ballot this time taking the votes of disaffected democrats who may otherwise have voted for Brady.

He needs a Rauner scandal to win by an eyelash, 53%? When pigs fly (and the when the Green candidate drops out, the last one got almost 3% at Quinn's expense).

Blago in 2002 got 52%, when the GOP was ripe for defeat after the George Ryan scandal. Quinn is going to top that in a bad year for democrats? Are you serious? Come on.
