Here’s an even easier safety idea. Years ago I asked Greyhound what results they’d had from runnig their bus headlights in daytime. They reported an eleven percent drop in accidents ( mostly cars running Into them). You’d think a great big bus would be plenty visible in the day without lights But results are results. It was a nationwide test and they’ve kept their lights on ever since. FYI.

People often expect buses not to move, and they do stand still a large amount of the time.

Sounds like a good topic for a Constitutional Amendment, to be pursued at a Convention of States.

" A study by New York Citys transportation planners concluded that left-hand turns were three times as likely to cause a deadly crash involving a pedestrian as right-hand turns."
And three rights make a left. 3 X 1/3 = 1, ∴ the same number of pedestrians get it, either way.

Turning left into oncoming traffic, at times blocked by someone turning left traveling in the opposite direction, raises your odds of having an accident?

About 10 years ago I looked into a Fed Ex contractor deal. Every day when you pick up the packages their computer puts out a route to deliver them all with no left turns.

BS.
Left turns are unsafe because all it takes to get a license in the US is the ability to fog a mirror. i.e. left turns are unsafe for the drivers that should not be behind the wheel of a car in the first place.
For the rest of us, they are, like most driving, an acceptable risk.
I’ve taken the training and have a lot of motorcycle miles under me. It is clear that not everyone can ride a motorcycle. It’s clear to most people actually. What is not as clear is that there are plenty of car drivers that are ALWAYS an accident waiting to happen. I just shake my head at fairly late model cars that have body damage on all four corners...

Exactly. I’ve seen such accidents. Bad drivers have accidents. If I’m making a left across two lanes of traffic, and the inside lane is allowing me to cross, if I can’t see the other lane I wave them on. They are acting stupidly for even giving me the option.
To: Borges
You can drive on the left as in the Virgin Islands, Ireland, the UK, South Africa, Pakistan, India, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
Of course you’d need to retool vehicles to have RH steering wheel.

Federal data have shown that 53.1 percent of crossing-path crashes involve left turns, but only 5.7 percent involve right turns.
When is a right turn a crossing path crash?

And 36 percent of fatal accidents involving a motorcycle involve a left-hand turn in front of a motorcycle
That one I would believe. Whenever on my bike, passing an oncoming car that wants to turn left, I’m mentally preparing for him to pull in front of me. It’s all part of the “assume you are invisible” motorcycle safety mantra. Maybe that’s why I’ve never gone down. Yet.
