They have resurrected the word “militia” to separate them from people like Occupy who also oppose the government. Miltia are the bad people. Occupy are the good people.

There wasn’t anything “legal” in that document. Most of the stuff were exaggerations, hyperbole, and easily justified actions by the crown. And it wasn’t even supported by most of the people! A DOI is an act of treason and rebellion, not a court document.

But we look at it like it was perfectly legit only because they won. Thank goodness they did.

They just got tired of a level of government that imposed on what they believed their rights were, just like this guy has.

Whether he paid his dues is not relevant here. What is relevant is that we are witnessing another militaristic crushing of a harmless family.

There are certainly zillions of ways to get the family to comply. Bringing in hundreds of armed agents, tanks, and helicopters is not one of them. Shutting down free speech is not one of them. Tasing innocent bystanders who pose no threat is not one of them. Although it hasn’t happened yet... shooting innocent people dead is not one of them.

It is the overkilling of harmless Americans that we’re done taking. They’ve brought it on themselves. If you haven’t seen it it’s b/c you watch CBS. Only.

It’s simple, really. A lawless government will bring out those who want to protect their constitutional rights one way or the other.

LOL! The Bundy family has owned the ranch since 1876. The BLM was founded in 1946. Who REALLY is the squatter, and who really is the owner...

The money statement is this:

The dispute between Bundy and the federal government dates to 1993, when land managers cited concern for the federally protected tortoise and capped his herd at 150 animals on a 250-square-mile rangeland allotment. Officials later revoked Bundy’s grazing rights completely.

To me, I now think I know what has been going on. At first I thought, this guy deserves this because he stopped paying his BLM grazing rights money in 1993.

But now we see a rancher, who had 900 head of cattle being forced by the government to cut his herd to 150, which would put most ranchers of this size operations OUT OF BUSINESS for a friggin' turtle.

I hope you and other conservatives can take another look at this, seriously. I thought Bundy was wrong (not to pay his grazing fees) but now I see beyond that and had an epiphany. THAT is what this is all about. A turtle.

The BLM didn’t take it. It already belonged to the U.S.

No, the Bundy ranch was composed of 150 acres which they owned and more acreage that they grazed on. This is a common configuration out West. The US government has owned the land since Nevada became a state.

The US government gets to make the rules on how to use US Government land. The date of when the administrative / management arm was created is irrelevant. BLM does not own the land the US Government does.

I disagree. It is the long established pattern of the BLM to invent such things as supposed endangerment to a critter in order to steal land from private citizens.

The turtle was never anything other than a tool.

Eric Holder called Americans cowards. Do you think anything short of a confrontation would make the feds back down?

No, I don't. And I have been saying that for a long time.

The problem now is that a real confrontation is very late in coming. Giving the thugs and their masters in DC a sense that the strength of will of the people just isn't there, i.e. resistance is merely bluffing. The result being that the Feds will not back down from a confrontation, which may have been the result had this happened a long time ago, as it should have.

“Assume the resolution will be to sell the cattle off to pay for the grazing fees that are owed.”

The BLM has already tried to send 130 of those cattle to Utah for auction but the state of Utah has said no. Then they went another auctioneer in another neighboring state and he said no also.

Just a suggestion:

Why don’t the parties involved start a Kickstarter account to raise the needed funds to pay off the Feds?

With the high profile of this, that would diffuse the issue.

I’d like to see about 4,000 from Nevada with real attitudes show up in support.

*******************

Don’t forget the 40,000 outside of Nevada who may pitch in if it goes that way. The feds can always mass at a location. When they do, they strip other areas bare.

Somewhere on a long ago thread, I read that the feds were supposed to relinquish most of the federal lands when the territories officially became states.

It’s amazing to me, that the feds are allowed to own more than 50% of the land in any state.

Folks are getting fed-up with the over reach.

Seriously, people just want to be left alone to raise their kids, earn a living and save for retirement.

All big brother would have to do is negotiate a settlement of some sort, perhaps provide a partial waiver to allow more head on that land.

I suspect what uncle sugar really wants is for these ranchers to totally bow down and give up.

Family ranch since the 1800’s.....I say hell no! I hope they stick firm.

Totally incorrect.

Article I Section 8: To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;

Article IV, Section 3: "The Congress shall have power to dispose of and make all needful rules and regulations respecting the territory or other property belonging to the United States; and nothing in this Constitution shall be so construed as to prejudice any claims of the United States, or of any particular state."

I'm a bit more concerned with the tens of millions of criminal illegal alien squatters who are aided and abetted the same corrupt US Government...All at tax payer expense to the tune of hundreds of billions in social services, health care, choking off our hospitals etc., every year?

And you suggest this guy is a squatter over some cows eating some weeds?

Ya think it's a bit odd the government comes down on some American like he's a foreign invading enemy, with snipers etc, all while government makes American citizenship and our sovereignty all but pointless? All while forcing us all to pay for our own incremental demise?

Ya see something wrong with this picture?

Koresh and the local sheriff were cordial toward one another. There were many opportunities to take this guy in town up until the later days of the ordeal. He then stopped traveling into town.

Koresh was a nut. Not sure how he was able to get folks to follow him, but this is all beside the point. The feds wouldn't stop until they got their way.

What happened next? Innocent people who just wanted to be left alone were slaughtered. I wouldn't have wanted to be one of those agents having to live with the thought that I had a hand in the murder of a bunch of children.
