Kansas City, Mo., police revealed today that the number of highway shootings they are investigating has risen to 20 as the hunt continues for suspects.
Authorities said the number had fluctuated because some cases were being added and others were being ruled out through investigative work. Federal agents earlier in the week joined the hunt for a possible spree shooter after three people were wounded.
"I was just driving down the highway and heard a loud noise. Something hit the car, didn't know what it was, so I pulled over at my first opportunity to kind of see if there was any damage and that's when I saw the bullet hole," Tom McFarlane told ABC News affiliate KMBC-TV.
The shootings have occurred along stretches of Interstates 435 and 470 -- some clustered near exit ramps and interchanges. A law enforcement official said Kansas City police had determined that at least some of the recent shooting incidents were linked.
The official would not say how authorities were able to connect the cases. K-9 teams with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives planned to return to the scenes, looking for ballistics evidence.
In addition, Kansas City police, ATF and FBI have announced a $7,000 reward for info leading to an arrest in the case.

I doubt seven grand is going to cut it.
And I doubt the police sitting on the shoulders in the way of regular drivers is going to catch anybody
C’mon KCPD, get the lead out and get moving
A WHOLE 7K ? -wow this must be serious.....seems we can’t divert more, prolly ‘cause it cuts into the donut & MRAP fund
Scary prospect for the cops. A disiplined sniper who dedicated himself to random killing (and getting away) would be a fearsome foe and difficult to catch. Best way to catch him would probably be to put another dedicated sniper on his trail.
we have had a couple “rappers” killed on 71 Hiway here too, I don’t know and I don’t want to know
dollars to donuts it ain’t some “disciplined” anything, just some asshole taking pot shot
The human hunters will catch him
Chief Moose to the white courtesy telephone.
Agreed. Disciplined shooters would be more effective killers. They wouldn’t be wounding drivers.
435 and 470 and 71 highway.
OH, you mean the GRANDVIEW TRIANGLE. An area similar to the Bermuda Triangle, except it’s on land.
Besides, that section of 71 highway is also known as Emmanuel Cleaver Boulevard. The high speed effluent outlet of the inner city.
These ‘random’ shootings on Mayor Cleaver’s highway have been going on for several years now. But it has picked up quite a bit lately.
yeah, most of it is in the triangle
and as you may or may not know, most of the Section 8 housing is in the Grandview area
Grandview Triangle
Grandview
Just some LOSER with nothing better to do than shoot at people trying to do what they are supposed to do
I don't think it is just one lone shooter. It seems to be more of a pattern of behavior by a certain social class and ethnic group.
My guess it could be some wannabe Treyvon supporters who are still pissed about the verdict and are out there getting the revenge anyway they can. If they were REALLY good at shooting, there would already be a lot of dead drivers.
I don’t know if you will remember this, but this started years ago, in the same spot where the 71, 470, 435 ‘interchange’ overpasses and underpasses are surrounded by plenty of discrete cover. Back then , they weren’t using guns, they were throwing rocks.
However, most of these new cases seem not to be taken from roadside cover, but from other cars.
well the cops need to get the hell out of the way and not park right on the shoulder waiting for the shooter
Gang initiations. Kinda like urban merit badges...
One want’s to stay away from the Grandview triangle..... Not a good situation. But they can’t report what they really know. I bet they will get the Asshole soon. I know some KCPD folks and they are working hard.
