Skip to comments.Michael Reagan: Shut Up Tea Party, Your Candidates Are Kooks
Posted on 04/11/2014 10:01:47 AM PDT by lowbridge
The Tea Party zealots who havent learned from their mistakes in 2010 and 2012 are trying their best to screw up the GOPs chances to win the Senate this fall.
Where does the Tea Party find these people to run in primaries? Most important, why do they offer them up as legitimate Republican candidates?
The Tea Party bosses have been listening to too much talk radio. They seem to think that what makes a good Republican candidate is someone who sounds like a talk radio host.
But talk radio is all about bombast and attracting callers, not about winning elections.
If Republicans are going to win general elections in 2014 and beyond, weve got to put up principled conservative candidates who sound like senators, congressmen, and governors not kooks.

MR jumped the shark a while back
I’m really disappointed to hear MR talking like Rove.
Okay Mike, who was the last PRINCIPLED CONSERVATIVE that the GOP put up?
Another one bites the dust.
Didn’t your mom visit fortune tellers?
MR jumped the shark a while back
Apparently he has jumped the shark. I’m very disappointed that he has apparently been corrupted/misled into supporting the GOPe war on the Tea Party.
He’s been bought it would appear either that or just been on the liberal west coast too long and has lost his way. He didn’t used to be like this .
Then your dad was a kook as well.......................
Well, some of them are.
His mother was Jane Wyman.
He hasn’t made any good points? Where are Senators Todd Akin and Christine O’Donnell?
Is he dating Ann Coulter or something. Geeeeze.
This is meaningless without naming names.
He has a point. His dad’s nickname of the Great Communicator, undermines the crucial fact that Reagan was actually able to enact many of his policies. Many people can give a great speech and espouse all the right ideas - being able to implement them though is really what elections are all about.
I like Paul and Cruz, and would vote for either of them. But, I don’t see where either has a track record of making their ideas law.
Yeah I was watching a guy named Cruz on tv the other day and was laughing because he had the same mindset that I have, so I know he is a kook!
Wait a minute ... Ted Cruz is a Senator????
AND he might be the Republican nominee in 2016????
What a kooky world we conservatives live in.
in all fairness a few of these “tea party” candidates ARE kooks. It seems they are mostly opportunists who are not locked into reality.
We do not want to switch to a new fool just because they only slapped “tea party” on their resume.
We want THINKING brain active candidates who can not only walk the walk but have the brains to win an election.
We stand for what we believe in and maybe lose or we abandon principle and lose either way. Not a difficult choice.
FOAD Mikey. You shame your father.
Talk about jumping the shark.
If anything, these attacks just keep solidifying my inclination to give my votes and support EXCLUSIVELY to tea-party candidates. The rest of the GOP and their “establishment” toadies can go burn in hell. I look upon them with the same revulsion I used to reserve only for big-government, lefty Dems.
Like zer0bummer had any background before he crammed communism down America's throat??? The pendulum must now swing back equally as far.
I looked at Michael Reagan’s Wiki biography, and he sounds like one messed-up, unhappy individual. Probably not somebody you want to take advice from.
he has a point.
many of these so called tea party opportunists are just opportunists who have zero chance of winning an election or obtaining any meaningful campaign donations.
look at primaries where the incumbent rinos are in no fear whatsoever of losing their primaries.
Primaries are there for a reason. It also weeds out the dead enders.
i will take a TEA party kook over a GOPe kook any day of the week!!
I realized Michael Reagan was a kook when he endorsed pro- ILLEGAL alien governor RINO Rick Perry for president. He also joined Perry in endorsing Ted Cruz opponent, David Dewhurst. In doing so, Reagan has rendered himself a punchline and proven that is not to be taken seriously. But I would imagine RINO Rick Perry devotees still love him.
Now we know what Michael Reagan thinks of the people who have listened to his radio programs over the years. He thinks they are kooks.
When SARA took the stage at GOP convention for the first time,
Michael was in total AHHHH!!! Just like ALL conservatives were, his exact
quote at that time was “it was like seeing Ronald Regan in a skirt” !!!!
Sara was DESTROYED I have NEVER seen the likes of what the media,
Saturday Night Live, ect. did to her!!! The TEA PARTY wants NOTHING
MORE than SMALLER government WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THAT MICHAEL!!!!!
I don’t think you understand my point, nor do I think you understand his. He talked about O Donnell and Angle - not primary losers. They WON primaries. And second, I don’t mind a discussion of this issue, but “Shut up” in the headline, and no mention of the abject failures of the Rove machine - make for an inaccuarate and despicable article.
You should be able to see that. This was no reasonable piece by MR.
Still living off his adoptive fathers name!!
If we want to win in primaries we have to have articulate WELL FUNDED conservatives. Not plastic pretenders or just plain stupid candidates.
Too many tea party candidates (one is too many) are the kook neighbor down the street running for president.
So who are all these “stupid” candidates you refer to?
Somebody is off their meds!
And the lesson most of us learned was that Boehner, McCain, Graham, McConnell, Cantor, Rubio are willing to sell out to make the democrats happy. Yeah, those Tea Party Zealots are at fault. They didn't go along with the corruption.
Yes, and he's still selling email addresses XXXXX@reagan.com despite the fact they he's being sued for doing so (fraud, conspiracy to commit fraud, conversion, breach of partnership agreement, breach of fiduciary duty, promissory estoppel and unjust enrichment)
We are in primary season.
Odonnells failings are for candidate school classes. (politics and elections magazine is still good for that)
Elections have a whole industry for candidates. Tea Party candidates better get to these schools or they will be crushed like any noob.
(the league of women voters offer good classes. Just remember to listen rather than engage in that arena)
you pretty much know them when you see them and hear them. They are all over the election terrain.
I’ll stand with the Tea Party before I stand with a corrupt organization like the Established GOP.
They at least stand for something unlike the GOP-e seniors. They would sell their mothers into slavery if it would keep them in power.
Is that really what elections are about? Case in point, Obama: Great speeches. I guess he does support your point about implementation. I just thought elections were about putting people in government who support certain principles over others, and letting the implementation take care of itself. I never had any inkling of how Reagan would actually do what he campaigned on, I just knew that he would kick the Iranians' asses and get our hostages back, and not let the USA get pushed around.
Mr. Reagan, are you the pot or the kettle?
We start bombing the Russians in 5 minutes
Is that because MR failed at talk radio and/or is out of the biz now?
We either have principles or we don't. And if we don't, we are Democrats.
Just because the opposition - be they Ds or Rs - have a lead in the game of money and advertising doesn't mean we start throwing them the ball and laying down while they score unopposed. It's called 'keeping them honest.'
2009 & 2010, Dem's controlled all 3 branches of Government.
2011 to Date, Dem's control 2 0f 3 of the branches of Government.
2013 The Senate Majority Leader changed filibuster rules.
I agree with him. A lot of the Tea Party candidates were incompetent, stupid or politically tone deaf. Its no wpnder the GOP establishment abhors them. They screw up the GOP more than they hurt the Democrats.
Some conservatives are attracted to kooks. Think how that makes them look to people who aren’t conservatives. When you have your guys defending abortion as legitimate rape, explaining why you aren’t a witch, or handing out barf bags, none of that is funny! It turns people off.
Michael Reagan is right wondering if the Tea Party folks are actually secret Democratic operatives who plant the least politically attractive people in the GOP so they can lose to the Democrats. And none of that is endearing Republican officeholders to them.
Now they’re going to do their best to make sure the Democrats retain control of the Senate in the fall. Does that make sense? But some people don’t want to listen to the adults in the room. They should listen to Reagan.
You are sooo wrong on this. You sound just like the idiot Republican consultants I deal with from time to time. Your ideas and prescriptions are so worn out, so damned formulaic, so archaic, so full of failure. This cookie cutter consultant speak is just a focus group driven bit of drivel.
I doubt you can even articulate why focus groups are by definition DEATH to any conservative message, period ..
Remember Elian Gonzalez, the Cuban refugee boy that the Clinton administration sent back to Fidel Castro’s regime back in 2000? Mike Reagan argued with enthusiasm and passion for sending the boy back to Castro.
Mistakes in 2010? Really, Mr. Reagan?
Offer them up as legitimate republican candidates? Mr. Reagan, you’re an idiot. These candidates are “offered up” because they DON’T look like republican candidates. The elitists just keep on screaming.
