Death by solar farms: 71 species of birds killed, ‘entire food chains’ disrupted

A new report by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service finds that solar facilities in California are acting like “mega traps” that kill and injure birds. As a result, “entire food chains” are being disrupted.

USFWS’s National Fish and Wildlife Forensics Laboratory studied three solar farms in Southern California: Desert Sunlight, Genesis Solar and Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System (ISEGS). Two-hundred and thirty-three different birds from 71 species were found over the course of a two-year study.

The three main causes of death were:

1. Solar flux: Exposure to temperatures over 800 degrees F.

2. Impact (or blunt force) trauma: The birds’ wings are rendered inoperable while flying, causing them to crash into the ground. Birds that do not die are often injured badly enough to make them vulnerable to predators.

233 birds in 2 years...........We're all gonna die.

I will never be convinced that solar on a large scale is a good thing.

how long are real Americans going to tolerate these ungodly enemies of our republic, who are instigating all this insanity to destroy us and our way of life ?

Told ya...
But hey, what are a few endangered species, compared to the greater glory of the Radical Liberal agenda, and filling a Democrat crony’s pockets with tax money?

How many birds see something shiny and think it is water?

The panels may be attracting birds to their doom.

We had an old hunting trick to make ice look like open water. Set a few decoys on it and limit out quick.

Good intentions from the eco-libtards kill more birds via windfarms and solar cookers than anything deliberate from other energy forms.

And since they can’t ever admit they are wrong about anything, they will defend the killings and give themselves exemptions and keep building more, despite the body counts going up and the ecological damage they continue to foist on us.

Look at ethanol gas and the fact it contaminates groundwater MORE than just gas alone. We still have ethanol being forced on us. They can’t say they were wrong. We have some republicans that do the same damn thing on ethanol too. they get too much money from it.

The solar farms are temples erected by the Earth Muffins in order to worship the Earth Mother and provide votive offerings to beseech the gods to bring their wrath down upon the heads of all humans infesting our planet. Birds don’t matter.

Solar and windmills are sacred to the left. They don’t care if birds die.

If we put these green technologies together we can start a restaurant.

Let the windmills slice and pluck them, then let the fryer land on solar panels to roast them.

Roast owl... mmm.

Tell me that a modern coal-fired generating station with pollution and particulate controls kills more wildlife than the wind and solar farms. Most power plants actually enhance wildlife as they have cooling ponds that provide habitat for birds and even recreation for humans.

The left is terribly confused - they are easily sold on ideas that sound great without considering the long-term consequences. The “leaders” pulling the strings are the ones who profit from the “green technology” that really turns out to be “not so green.”

Environmentalism start-ups and green corporations are every bit as corrupt as they claimed Halliburton to be - maybe even more. At least Halliburton provided a genuine service according to contract vs these green energy fiascos that never pay for themselves with unintended consequences.

Wind and solar farms are the new unicorns. If we invested all that money into hydro dams and new generation nuclear power we would be far better off!

I think they have a great place as alternate or supplement sources on specific buildings. The swaths of solar plantation leave me leery too.

There was a TV special about a cat in England which would bring its kills home and drop them on the doorstep. The cat’s owners put the kills into ziplock baggies and then the freezer.

They kept tally for a year or two and learned that the cat has killed hundreds of birds, field mice, voles, shrews, etc.

This guy is facing jail time for killing a stray cat that was killing his favorite songbirds.

Alternative energy works better when properly built at home without subsidies. That said, become more self-sufficient instead of giving your money to bureaucrats through their investments in local energy companies, and avoid the wood shortage to come.
