Obama's press secretary decorates home with Soviet propaganda

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney and his family are featured in a worshipful profile in this month's Washingtonian magazine.

It's the sort of adoring journalistic exercise reserved for only the most handsome of the power elite. In it you can find out details about the Carney dog (a cousin to presidential pooch Sonny!), and how much the press secretary's tie costs ($135).

But keen observers may notice the kitchen decor in the photo: Soviet propaganda posters. They really are the perfect pop of color whether you are the dour and sincere Nikita Khrushchev or the cheeky press-wrangler for a president who is constantly accused of being a socialist himself.

I didn't know Jay Carney was married to Claire Shipman. I always thought Carney was gay.

“Shipman is the daughter of the late Morgan Shipman, Professor of Law at The Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law. She graduated from Worthington High School in Worthington, Ohio in 1980. In 2006, she was recognized by Worthington Schools as a Distinguished Alumni during Convocation. She is a 1986 graduate of Columbia College of Columbia University and also holds a master’s degree from Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs. She is divorced from former CNN Moscow bureau chief Steve Hurst. She and her second husband, Jay Carney, have a son and a daughter. Carney is the current White House press secretary, having been appointed on January 27, 2011.

Shipman’s broadcast career started with a decade-long stint at CNN. From 1997 to May 2001 Ms. Shipman served as White House Correspondent for NBC News and appeared on NBC Nightly News and The Today Show.[3] She joined ABC News in May 2001, and frequently contributes to other ABC News programs, such as World News Tonight and Nightline. She is a substitute anchor on both Good Morning America and World News Tonight, as well as a regular participant in the “roundtable” segment of ABC News’ This Week with Christiane Amanpour. Before joining ABC News, she was a White House correspondent for NBC News.

On June 2, 2009, Harper Collins published Womenomics, a book written by Shipman and BBC World News America correspondent Katty Kay exploring the redefinition of success for working women based on recent trends of the value of women to the business world.”

She seems to have a fascination with Russia.

Well, don’t they look like they’re enjoying the high life? Just like the old Politburo officials. These people make me want to projectile vomit.

Probably the old USSR instead of Russia today.
Perhaps she dreams of a USSA.

Michelle would frown on such bounty - that’s a whole egg instead of an egg white, the pastries probably don’t conform to the recommended 50% whole grain content, to say nothing of the carbs. And with so much food covering every surface, the children may not make good choices and overeat as well.

There is so much “fake” in that photograph. It is almost like one of those “spot the error” games in reverse.

Color-coded pajamas on all three

News anchors get made up at work, not before they get out of bed

Two kids, house is spotless (that includes the carefully arranged ‘messy blueberries’ on the counter)

Three people and enough food to feed five times that number is neatly decorating the counters like a restaurant buffet.

Even the kid’s egg looks fake!
