Why the U.S. Should Merge With Canada
Politico ^ | April 10, 2014 | Diane Francis

Posted on 04/12/2014 9:30:20 AM PDT by EveningStar

The United States and Canada are far more integrated than most people think. In fact, a merger between the two countries isn't just desirable—it's inevitable.

We share more than just the world's longest border. We share the same values, lifestyles and aspirations. Our societies and economies are becoming similar in significant ways.

Geez....sitting around after having blown a bunch of coke, drank one too many Yaegers or boilermakers the night before, hung over, headachy and desperate for some inane BS topic on which to expound expertly....

Give me a break...

The only thing this author wants is Canada’s hate-thought laws to become law here.

While Canada seems very similar to America, there are some big differences. One of which has to do with free speech.

Canada has censored radio programming, such as Dr. Dobson from Focus on the Family, due to alleged hate speech against homosexuality. They have hate speech laws which are far stricter than any laws or policies in America on the subject. How will such differences in laws be reconciled?

There are other differences, such as tax laws. I understand that home mortgage interest is not deductible for income tax purposes in Canada, for example. I’m sure that there are other tax law differences as well.

And what of healthcare? With Obamacare, we still have the framework of a privately run healthcare system, with doctors as independent businessmen and women, whereas Canada has full blown socialized medicine. How to reconcile that will be a challenge.

Lots of areas of life would have to be reconciled.

I wonder if Canada fears being swallowed up by the U.S. if this happened. Rather than a merger of equals, would Canada simply be submerged????

Only under this administration..........

How xenophobic of them: putting the welfare of their own citizens ahead of immigrants¡

Every Canadian’s worst nightmare, is to somehow become just part of the rest of the territory once known as “the United States of America”.

The citizens of Canada couldn’t really accept the responsibility to straighten out the majority of voters in that tormented land. They are not into nation-building.

Yay! Let’s make the USA more liberal and depraved. Hey, why stop there? Let’s have Sweden and North Korea too! If there is any border change required its for real America to detach the DC socialist republics and the Esperanto kingdoms of California and New Mexico.

So would we.

Why take all those resources off the market? A merger with US would shut down the mines, forestry and wells.

One Canadian is advancing the idea that every Canadian province and territory be admitted to the union as a state, with of course, 2 Senators each. That is never going happen. The entire population of the three territories could fit into AT&T Stadium in Dallas. Prince Edward Island has a population about 20% of the size of an average Congressional district.

The U.S. might pick and choose a few juicy provinces like Alberta and British Columbia, but the Maritimes and Quebec would likely be left on the bargain table.

They aren't content with chipping away at the Bill of Rights bit by bit. They want us to merge with Canada in order to eliminate the Bill of Rights in one fell swoop?

Maybe some people can't stand waiting for the day when William and Kate will be King and Queen and want to be their subjects.

The NWO wants a North American Union made up of USA, Canada, and Mexico. That is why the Mexico/US border will not be closed or fenced....it’s online just look up

North American Union Map and the NWO plan for major shipping highway through Texas from Mexico to Canada.

Do we want that...h%ll no, but that’s the UN and NWO PLAN.

You’re right about there being no mortgage-interest deductibility here, in Canada. However, we also don’t have capital gains taxes on the sale of principle residences. In the long run, it pretty much balances out.

You also left out the part where our federal budget is showing a small surplus this year, with bigger ones to come. We’re paying down our (already proportionately much smaller) national debt.

In some ways it is less foreign the Louisiana but it is the French influence like Quebec.

It's not just immigrants... The company I work for bought a Canadian business, and we had to go to Vancouver, BC, to get them set up with our networking equipment, and set up the VPN linking our sites. At the Canadian customs check-in, I was asked if I was there for business or pleasure, and how long I expected to be there. I told them business, and expected to go on my way. Instead, he wanted to know exactly why I was there, and I told him my company had bought the Canadian company, and I was there to connect them to our network. He went from surly to downright hostile, and he demanded to know why I was sent there, instead of having a Canadian do the work... "Wasn't a Canadian able to do the work?" I answered, "apparently not." I got a really dirty look from the officer, but he stamped my passport and let me through.

A lady I met while working in Vancouver, BC, got somewhat miffed during a conversation, when I referred to her as "Canadian." She corrected me, saying "I'm NOT Canadian, I'm 'British Columbian!'"
