A teacher at a private Christian K-12 school in Shreveport, La. has been suspended for allegedly calling a 12-year-old girl a sassy slut.
The girls parents say the incident happened last week at Evangel Christian Academy School (Christ-centered excellence!), report local ABC affiliate KTBS. They also allege that other students in the class overheard the insulting statement.
The life science teachers six-day suspension includes full pay and benefits.
The unidentified girls parents say their daughter has never had discipline problems in the past. They are pretty upset.
Im just still numb about what happened and the disciplinary action that the school had taken, Marteen Mitchell, the girls mother, told KTBS.
Mitchell said she doesnt want the teacher fired. At the same time, she doesnt think the six-day suspension is adequate punishment.
No, I dont think it was fair at all. They initially told me that she would receive one day suspension with pay, Mitchell told the ABC station. When I made it back to my job, I received a call from the principal that stated that the situation was serious and they wanted me to know that they would give her five additional days.
Mitchell added that she would like to receive an apology from either the teacher or officials at Evangel Christian. However, neither has said they are sorry.
Bud Dean, the principal at Evangel Christian, declined to comment on the allegations or the suspension.
You send your kid to a private Christian school .and then you go running your yap to the local media? It’s the MOM who’s the sassy slut
I’d pull my child out of that school in a heartbeat.
Evangel Christian . . dont they play some pretty high level football?
I bet there is more to the story than is being reported.
Perhaps it was over the top to call her a slut, but, it would be interesting to know what happened to precipitate the whole incident.
Let’s see. My child is “insulted”, and rather than take the matter to the school board you go right to the press. Just thinking maybe the girl is a ‘sassy slut’.
Do you know it’s true?
Did you talk to the principle? Then the school board?
“I bet there is more to the story than is being reported....”
There almost certainly more to the story...something doesn’t smell right about this.
“The life science teachers six-day suspension includes full pay and benefits.”
That’s not a suspension; it’s a vacation.
Or how was the remark put, if it was even made?
“Girl, I saw you there flirting your breasts at the boys — you shouldn’t be acting like a sassy slut.”
Or how was the remark put, if it was even made?
Girl, I saw you there flirting your breasts at the boys you shouldnt be acting like a sassy slut.
To which the girl replied, “ Who you callin’ sassy?”
Her lawyer told her that being “numb” will get her more money than being “shocked.”
Not one mention of the incident that the comment stemmed from.
The question that remains to be answered:
IS SHE a sassy slut?
Is she sassy?
Is she a slut?
30 years ago I worked at a hotdog joint, that was about 200 yds from the junior high. There were 3 girls that came in all the time, dressed and made up like 20 year olds. Looking for attention, not realizing at their age, it was the wrong kind of attention.
One girl went to my church. Her parents were probably the wealthiest family in the church.
Not that you would know it by the girls dad.
But the mom was a real "treat". (She eventually ran off with her husbands [now former] best friend)
By the girls look and attitude, back then, I kinda think she would have qualified for the sassy slut comment.
Yeah... it could be a tempest in a teapot. The girl acted up a little, it’s not the end of the world, maybe the teacher even said it in private, but oy vey the devil is poking on both her and her parents to get that pound of flesh.
And the school admins... they sigh and put the teacher on vacation because that’s what their liability insurance recommends (in more worldthink).
But "slut" works just as well.
Its far easier to remove the student and blame the school, than it is to look into ones childs life and correct an issue.
Yeah mountaineer (remember when you got all worked up when I quoted Foghorn Leghorn to ya, calling Henery Hawk “son”) kids can play with fire because they think it’s cute but they have never actually been burned.
“...And the school admins... they sigh and put the teacher on vacation because thats what their liability insurance recommends (in more worldthink).”
BINGO -— I suspect the Mom’s looking for a chance to win a liability lottery settlement. The more I look at this, the smellier it is becoming.
Good grief. Get a grip on yourself.
The daughter and mom will soon be on Oprah etc.
OH MY GOD! THE REPUBLIC IS DOOMED! /s
no, harlot is hooker, prostitute
slut would be more of the woman accused of adultery whom Jesus rescued, the woman with 5 previous husbands
The teacher’s horrible...she should be back in public school system.
The paper could have heard about and called the parents. The papers are always printing negative stories about our private Christian school. Unfortunately, some of them are true.
As Paul Harvey used to say,”And now for the rest of the story.” You’d better believe that there is more to this one.
It doesn’t say why she was called that?
Nope. This is quickly being turned to bash Christians once more. It would be interesting to know what the girl was wearing. Prolly too risqué.
Completely missing from this piece of jourinalism: the teacher’s motivation.
Worthless gossip/soap opera/waste of time without it.
I work at a high school up here in Alaska.
Here’s the sad truth about the post-Tinker vs. Des Moines school system... some students know how to game the system. They understand that an outrageous accusation can get a teacher reprimanded or removed. They often have parents who will come to the school with fire in their eyes based on a flimsy lie told by their little sociopathic offspring. Principals have to follow legal guidelines designed to cover the ass of the school district from liability, which means weeks, months, and sometimes years of prevarication, obfuscation, and meeting after meeting.
It is true that practically all the students in my room are decent human beings, but there are always a few exceptions every year. The legalizing of school discipline is a large part of the problem. The trouble students know the limits of the law (”You can’t say that! You can’t touch me! You can’t make me do that!”) and push it to their advantage. It’s one of the reasons why competent people leave the profession.
It is my experience that students who are the greatest problem come from families where the parents blindly defend their kids. In the article I just read, I can easily imagine a student acting like a sassy slut. Every school has a couple of them. They are often terrors to teach, willing to use indirect vendetta or the Anita Hill strategy to punish teachers they don’t like. I read the review of a book about psychopathic behavior which stated that one percent of the population are psychopathic, and many of those are at a functional level, with equal numbers of men and women - and there are female students fitting the profile. In a teenager, that would come across as sassy and slutty. And being reasonably charismatic, the students gains allies in important places.
Just speaking for myself - I never go into a room with a student alone, ever. Conferences are in the commons area. I am happy to have a wall of windows on one side of the room. I document everything. And I’m extremely cautious about what I say and how I say it, even in jest, as it can and will be used against me. My primary lesson came watching a good man like Clarence Thomas get slimed viciously for making a joke about a Coke can and jesting about a porn movie to one of his sassy coworkers; I’ve never forgotten feeling after watching the hearings that there are dangerous and deadly people out there willing to ruin you for the most petty reasons. Even 12-year-olds and their mothers. It’s a fallen world.
I’m not defending the teacher ..just don’t like the parents airing this in public.
Perhaps it was the review of The Sociopath Next Door... 1 in 25 is clinically or subclinically a sociopath... 4%. That is one (or more) in every classroom.

No, this was a book about psychopathology, with an emphasis on those who are “functioning” psychopaths in business, media, and academia. I think I read the review in National Review.... and somewhere in my talk radio life, there was an interview with the author who suggested that at some point in the future there would be some kind of pharmacological cure for psychopathy. Apparently there’s a lot of hub-hub in some circles about the definitions and differences between sociopaths and psychopaths... needless to say, I don’t want to interact with either one of them.
You as your post states automatically belive what happened (not surprised)
You as your post implies that rather than finding out what happened, think (apparently, again not surprised), going to the press is a better course of action.
And you say I should get a grip - hahahaha
I guess the question is, is she a sassy slut or not?
