Federal agency pulls back in Nevada ranch standoff, but legal fight remains

The Bureau of Land Management announced Saturday that it has concluded its mission to remove illegal cattle from a rural Nevada range after a tense week-long standoff with a rancher and militia supporters.

"Based on information about conditions on the ground, and in consultation with law enforcement, we have made a decision to conclude the cattle gather because of our serious concern about the safety of employees and members of the public," the statement read.

Bureau officials had dismantled designated protest areas supporting rancher Cliven Bundy, who they say refuses to comply with the "same laws that 16,000 public land ranchers do every year."

"After 20 years and multiple court orders to remove the trespass cattle, Mr. Bundy owes the American taxpayers in excess of $1 million. The BLM will continue to work to resolve the matter administratively and judicially," the statement said. "We ask that all parties in the area remain peaceful and law-abiding as the Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service work to end the operation in an orderly manner."

A group of about 1,000 supporting Bundy cheered and sang "The Star Spangled Banner" when BLM made its announcement.

Based on the poor/intermittent quality live feeds from the scene, this is FAR from over.

Made them blink. Will this pull-back last any longer than it takes for all the patriots and observers to return home?

They’ll probably wait until the attention shifts, then try again. Or try it from another angle like repeated IRS audits, OSHA audits, ATF audits and such like they did True the Vote in Houston.

Supposedly the BLM is going to share the revenues of the several hundred cows already rounded up for auction. As I understand it he is free to return to grazing his cows on the land again. We will see.

It was inspiring to see how Free Republic was acknowledged with having the "goods" on BLM that connected this to corrupt Washington, D.C. pukes. A big THANK YOU! to the FReeper who did it.

What's next?

Are the aged 1960s New Left Marxist-Alinsky campus radical, psycho spoiled brats and their ideological issue (arguably the Establishment) going to back down now?

IMO they'll eventually do something like what FDR tried to do with his Great Sedition Trial of 1944.. with "war clouds" gathering in Eastern Europe and Asia (or whatever excuse) watch for the frustrated campus psycho spoiled brats to use false charges of sedition against Americans -- criticism of Obama with the active support of MSM employees will become "sedition."

FDR failed. Obama might succeed, the Establishment today is arguably aging 1960s New Left Marxist-Alinsky radical, campus psycho spoiled brats and their ideological issue. The Establishment in FDR's days did not go along and eventually stopped:

". . . one of the blackest marks on the record of American jurisprudence. In the legal world, none can recall a case where so many Americans were brought to trial for political persecution and were so arrogantly denied the rights [guaranteed] an American citizen under the Constitution.”

This confrontation could be even bigger and could be the crisis that Lincoln spoke about which must be reached before we can overcome "a house divided".

I’m not suprised. The Feds always have to back down in stages. You have to keep pushing all the way. I think there are about 100 cowboys on horseback and a carvan of vehicles threatening to go get the cattle back.

BLM is claiming over $1 million in past fees.

After 20 years with no serious effort to collect, hasn’t the BLM abandoned its rights? Were the fees agreed upon or merely imposed?

After 20 years is there a count on how many tortoises met a bovine death? Any evidence?

And what about the BLM round up of tortoises elsewhere to a central collection point where they had to put nearly 1,000 todeath because of disease...and then later abandoned the whole project.

Inquiring minds want to know.

“The spotlight started to shine on Dingy Harry and the cockroaches scattered.”

That’s what I was telling my wife. I think some of those government goons were itching to shoot but only if they weren’t shot back at. The cats out of the bag on Reid now.

If the Feds had 200 humans there and have been operating since last Saturday and collected 384 head of cattle, that works out to ~0.25 head of cattle per man per day.

You'd think that unskilled rustlers could do about 4x that.
