Few in Ukraine – Including in the East — Support Separatism or Joining Russia, Poll Shows

Paul Goble April 12, 2014 Print Friendly Staunton, April 12 – Vladimir Putin insists that his moves in Ukraine are motivated by a desire to protect ethnic Russians, Russian speakers and, Moscow’s latest category, “pro-Russian people” who do not want to live under Kyiv, a view that has been uncritically accepted by large numbers of Russians in the Russian Federation and by many in the West.

But a new poll shows that few of the people on whose behalf Putin claims to be acting are interested in separatism from Ukraine or in having their regions become part of the Russian Federation. Instead, even in the eastern portions of Ukraine where Russian speakers form a large share of the population, overwhelming majorities want to remain in Ukraine.

I’d have to know a good deal more about those doing the polling to completely accept this.

This poll closely matches another poll taken in March, and also matches what journalists have found talking to the average man on the street, and not the 100 or so "protestors" wearing masks and carrying Russian weapons. As for who conducted it, here is info from their site: The Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation (DIF) is an analytical and enlightening organization which aims at building Ukrainian state, democracy, and market economy and enhancing full integration of Ukraine into European and Euro-Atlantic structures. Ілько Кучерів, засновник Фонду Nowadays, DIF belongs to leading Ukrainian think tanks and focuses its activities on developing reasonable recommendations in the sphere of democratic transformations and Ukraine’s European integration for decision makers and civil society representatives. DIF was created in 1992 and was named after its founder and first director Ilko Kucheriv (1955-2010) who made an impressive contribution to democratic progress of Ukraine, as well as development of Ukrainian sociology and civil society. DIF mission consists in supporting Ukraine in its transformation into fully functioning democracy with good governing practices, market economy, and developed civil society. http://dif.org.ua/en/pro-nas/about_dif.htm

Whoops, that came out all smooshed together. The link, if it's not clear in that blob:

Then stop calling them Pro-Russian extremists and start calling them pro-Ukrainian anti-fascists.

Unless you're limiting yourself to Alex Jones or RT, there is no reason to take Putin's Active Measures on our media seriously. There is no fascist/anti-semitism menace in Ukraine.

I’m sure they all want to join the EU.

I mean, who wouldn’t ?

Such freedom, such prosperity.

If you do exactly as you’re told, you’re taken care of right up until you’re deemed no longer useful.

In fact, Russian Neo-Nazis are openly encouraged by the Russian government in Ukraine and even in Russia, and RT interviews Neo-Nazis without bothering to inform their audience about their affiliation. Alexandr Dugin, a high level political “analysit,” and full time idiot, is a neo-Nazi who apparently is an admirer of Aleister Crowley, the Satanist, and his propaganda is frequently featured on state-run Russian networks.

They want to join the EU because, as part of joining, they are required to put into place anti-corruption laws which are sorely needed. The Putin controlled Puppet looted billions from the Ukrainian economy, not to mention filling the ranks of the government with Russian agents, many of whom are still there in the shadows.

So far as I know, NATO does not have organized homosexual rape in the military, protected by the regime (as Russia does), nor are they literally run by people known to be admirers of Aleister Crowley and other freaks promoting a strange Russian nationalism that dreams of recreating the Soviet Union, using the same tactics they used the last time they created the Soviet Union. I suggest you check your history and stop spamming me with stupid comments.

Did you know that WestPoint funded an all homosexual event and that is what is going on in the EU. This is a double edged sword. The EU is going to bankrupt the Ukraine with its agenda of George Soros.

So the EU is the solver of corruption problems ?

Dominique Strauss-Kahn would have a good laugh at that.

EU politicians are corrupt globalists.

It would be far easier for Ukraine to pass anti-corruption laws than to pass laws which give up a chunk of the nation’s sovereignty to the EU, so the EU could force the laws on them.

FYI, since its independence, Ukraine has seen a steadily growing stream of business with the US, the UK and Europe, as well as with Russia.

The West has spent billions and enormous efforts to push Western foreign direct investment into Ukraine.

American companies from John Deere to Proctor & Gamble to IBM - HUNDREDS of them - have been doing business in Ukraine for years. Meanwhile Western private capital has been partnering with the State Department - and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) - to influence Ukrainian politics, politicians, business leaders, oligarchs, the general public, etc., to join the EU.

You know, “training” on “good governance”, etc.

Interesting side note on Russian confrontation:

Russia supplies Boeing with almost a third of the titanium it uses to build airplanes.

Before we go neocon charging off to battle, its wise to look at global trade, finance, supply chain, etc.

You are asking me to side with the Reds by pointing to the Bourgeois useful idiots of the EU. They will be consumed by the Russians sooner or later. I will warn you, however, that the Russians do not respect their useful idiots. You will be liquidated right along with the rest of us when the Russians are ready to push the button. They've been preparing for war for many years now, while the left AND the right have been ignoring the fact that the Communists were never expelled from power from the "former" Soviet bloc. They simply gave themselves new names.
