Federal agency vows to continue legal action after ending Nevada ranch standoff [BLM v Bundy]
FOX News ^ | April 13, 2014 | Edmund DeMarche, Matt Finn and the AP contributed to this report

The Bureau of Land Management vowed Saturday that it would continue its legal fight to remove illegal cattle from a rural Nevada range after ending a tense weeklong standoff with a rancher and his supporters.

"After 20 years and multiple court orders to remove the trespass cattle, [rancher Cliven] Bundy owes the American taxpayers in excess of $1 million. The BLM will continue to work to resolve the matter administratively and judicially," a statement from the bureau said. "We ask that all parties in the area remain peaceful and law-abiding as the Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service work to end the operation in an orderly manner."

The BLM also announced that it was wrapping up its month-long operation to seize the 900 cattle roaming on federally owned land approximately 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas and would release the 400 head of Bundy's cattle it had already seized "in order to avoid violence and help restore order."

"Based on information about conditions on the ground, and in consultation with law enforcement, we have made a decision to conclude the cattle gather because of our serious concern about the safety of employees and members of the public," the statement read.," the statement read.

Bureau officials had dismantled designated protest areas supporting Bundy, who they say refuses to comply with the "same laws that 16,000 public land ranchers do every year."

A group of about 1,000 supporting Bundy cheered and sang "The Star Spangled Banner" when BLM made its announcement.

" I fully expect to number among its dead."

As do I, My FRiend. I have no illusions about going out a "hero". It will only be because I will not comply with their demands. This does not sound dramatic, nor should it, but everyone knows or should know that they are prepared, willing and able to kill anyone who defies them.

The story of the guy in the Everglades, or the edge of the Everglades a few years back has been forgotten. But they were about to kill him until cooler heads prevailed and got him to accept their offer.

“...I heard there were 160 cattle dead and I’m sure more than a few in rough shape.”

Where was PETA while these poor critters were being unethically treated? Were they confined to their own 1st Amendment protest zone down in the lower forty?

The federal government doesn’t “own” 80% of Nevada. Public land is just that: PUBLIC. It belongs to the people. However, in many instances the federal government is the trustee that is charged with the management of that public property. But as the trustee the federal government’s management is limited by law, though the feds routinely ignore the law and exceed their authority and pretty much do whatever the hell they like or want.

Copied from Facebook/The Modern American Revolution page:

Why Clive Bundy isn't WRONG.

There have been a lot of people criticizing Clive Bundy because he did not pay his grazing fees for 20 years. The public is also probably wondering why so many other cowboys are supporting Mr. Bundy even though they paid their fees and Clive did not. What you people probably do not realize is that on every rancher's grazing permit it says the following: "You are authorized to make grazing use of the lands, under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management and covered by this grazing permit, upon your acceptance of the terms and conditions of this grazing permit and payment of grazing fees when due." The "mandatory" terms and conditions go on to list the allotment, the number and kind of livestock to be grazed, when the permit begins and ends, the number of active or suspended AUMs (animal units per month), etc. The terms and conditions also list specific requirements such as where salt or mineral supplements can be located, maximum allowable use of forage levels (40% of annual growth), etc., and include a lot more stringent policies that must be adhered to. Every rancher must sign this "contract" agreeing to abide by the TERMS AND CONDITIONS before he or she can make payment. In the early 90s, the BLM went on a frenzy and drastically cut almost every rancher's permit because of this desert tortoise issue, even though all of us ranchers knew that cow and desert tortoise had co-existed for a hundred+ years. As an example, a family friend had his permit cut by 90%. For those of you who are non ranchers, that would be equated to getting your paycheck cut 90%. In 1976 there were approximately 52 ranching permittees in this area of Nevada. Presently, there are 3. Most of these people lost their livelihoods because of the actions of the BLM. Clive Bundy was one of these people who received extremely unfair and unreasonable TERMS AND CONDITIONS. Keep in mind that Mr. Bundy was required to sign this contract before he was allowed to pay. Had Clive signed on the dotted line, he would have, in essence, signed his very livelihood away. And so Mr. Bundy took a stand, not only for himself, but for all of us. He refused to be destroyed by a tyrannical federal entity and to have his American liberties and freedoms taken away. Also keep in mind that all ranchers financially paid dearly for the forage rights those permits allow - - not rights to the land, but rights to use the forage that grows on that land. Many of these AUMS are water based, meaning that the rancher also has a vested right (state owned, not federal) to the waters that adjoin the lands and allow the livestock to drink. These water rights were also purchased at a great price. If a rancher cannot show beneficial use of the water (he must have the appropriate number of livestock that drinks and uses that water), then he loses that water right. Usually water rights and forage rights go hand in hand. Contrary to what the BLM is telling you, they NEVER compensate a rancher for the AUMs they take away. Most times, they tell ranchers that their AUMS are "suspended," but not removed. Unfortunately, my family has thousands of "suspended" AUMs that will probably never be returned. And so, even though these ranchers throughout the course of a hundred years invested thousands(and perhaps millions) of dollars and sacrificed along the way to obtain these rights through purchase from others, at a whim the government can take everything away with the stroke of a pen. This is the very thing that Clive Bundy single-handedly took a stand against. Thank you, Clive, from a rancher who considers you a hero.

I watched a lot of this on Fox News, and everytime whoever it was reporting, mainly LaJuenesse. continually referred to the CITIZENS as the Militia and the Gestapo Agents from the Bureau of Property Control as ‘Law Enforcement” even as they were Rustling his Cattle, which used to be a Hanging Offence. For some reason this asswipe was getting his panties all bunched up because Private Citizens dared to do the the exact same thing that the Jack Booted Gestapo Agents from the Bureau of Property Control were doing, mainly Pointing their Firearms at the ENEMY.

CONGRESS CAN STOP THIS OVERNIGHT, and they should bring the head of this rogue agency before them to explain their actions, then JAIL the entire bunch and shut down this Agency run by the Gestapo.

How much property tax has the BLM paid to the taxpayers of the State of Nevada in the last 20 years? They are American taxpayers, too.

And is the BLM going to pay back the American taxpayers the millions they just burned due to their lack of common sense?

Harry Reid has replaced the mafia in Nevada. First Solar thrives in Toledo, Ohio via subsidies obtained by democrat Marcy Kaptor. The solar agenda has lost taxpayers millions if not billions of dollars, but dems are doubling down it nevertheless:

First Solar FSLR Securities Stock Fraud

Class Period: Apr-30-08 to Feb-28-12

The complaint alleges violations of federal securities laws, Sections 10(b) and 20(a) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Rule 10b-5, including allegations of issuing a series of material or false misrepresentations to the market which had the effect of artificially inflating the market price during the Class Period, which is April 30, 2008 through February 28, 2012.

I’m going to take an unpopular position here just because....

bottom line, removing all the emotion out of the subject and just looking at one simple fact, Hasn’t Bundy been breaking the law for 20 years or am I missing something?

“Solar Energy Zones Identified in US

SustainableBusiness.com News

22 million acres of US public lands are now called Solar Energy Zones - land that’s suitable for large, utility-scale solar plants.

The land is in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah.

The land was chosen after a joint environmental study, the Draft Solar Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement, conducted by the DOE and Dept of the Interior. The study was initiated in 2008.”

“There are many sites on the administration’s list that have key energy resources that could be developed such as oil and gas reserves. However, environmentalists that support the administration want these sites locked down to protect “animals and nature”. Again – at a time when energy independence should be a priority, why would the administration get in the way?”

RE: Harry Reid's corruption was gaining press

That's true or rather it should be true. I did a google News search for, Harry Reid Bundy.

I got almost 50 hits (w/option to see duplicates and all) sorted on recent to oldest date.. for the dates current through 11 April the closest to a MSM employee was the LV Review-Journal, the Examiner (Washington, D.C. I believe) and LV CBS. Everything else was the alternate media it seemed to me.

BTW I did not check the the Examiner and LV CBS but the R-J article mention of Reid had nothing to do with scandal. It was that he was not on the scene and there was a link about him to an unrelated story.

How many times will Reid's name be mentioned vis-a-vis BLM on the MSM talk shows today? My guess is zero. I have no TV so I'll be spared the outrage. :)

MSM attacks to defamate his character and portray as a right winger who wanted “free” land to graze his cattle on while he gets rich selling cattle (we KNOW this what the left will do; they are so predictable),

This needs some editing. MSM, the Left, and many Freepers. It's quite amazing to note the number of people on this forum who have bought into this line.

It bears reminding everyone of the roots this dispute. The BLM jacked up the allotment fees in excess of all reason for the purpose of forcing Bundy and other ranchers off the land. To do this, they manipulated the Endangered Species Act and claimed that the increased fees were required to mitigate damage to the Desert Tortoise. The tortoise and cattle are symbiotic, the cattle enhance the environment so far as the tortoise is concerned, so the BLM claim is fraudulent on its face. Of course, the BLM does not care about the tortoise. They have decided that ranchers have no right to graze on public land, the use of which ought to be reserved to enviornmentalists, nature lovers, urban elites on a spree, and of course, Chinese businessmen wishing to cash in on the green energy scam.

The federal government doesn’t “own” 80% of Nevada.

Sorry, but you are quite wrong. The federal government does indeed own it, as it does with much of the other land in the West. There was a time when this ownership required the government to make the land available to anyone who wished to use it for recreation or economic purposes including ranching, forestry, and mining. But, the government has changed their mind. They now think their job is to keep people off the land and eliminate all use. The one exception is to accommodate corrupt politicians who control their budgets.

Everything the Democrats do is a tactic, a design to establish another source of funding, as well another binding relationship for their nefarious goals. We know they will be back after the upcoming election, because they have their eyes on a huge monetary resource to not only skim funding for their political purposes, but to establish a precedence in a binding relationship with a Marxist ally for additional resources that will add to their funding in the future. It’s also what the ACA is all about, funding, and control. We can see it in their relationship with PP as well.

Democrats are like an open book. It’s a matter of getting enough people that want their freedom, their America to read the book, and reject it outright.

You have done a great public service by posting this. Its quite amazing the numbers of people, including many on this forum, who will not bother to take a few minutes to find out what the real issue is and let that knowledge inform their response. Instead, they read a headline, post some ignorant response, and echo the left’s talking points. They are idiots.

Bundy needs a ruthless legal team who can launch a relentless attack on the abuse of the Endangered Species Act that has been the hallmark of the federal government for the past 20 years. Bundy can’t afford it, but his resolve will benefit all of the American people and certainly all other ranchers.
