We are a family of six – two parents and four children – who, because of a rough year in 2013, had to apply for subsidized healthcare coverage under the new Obamacare rules. Yes, count us among the 7.1 million that Kathleen Sebelius is currently claiming are active Obamacare signups. We live in Orange County, Southern California, so our coverage comes through the state exchange, Covered California ...

Scroll down a bit (search for Gregory Smith) for the start of this horrendous story. It exposes, in the raw, the truth about where Obamacare intends to take us, and shows us just how inefficient things will be once Government runs our healthcare.

It does have a happy ending, however.

This is looking more and more like a way to kill off the population.

That’s OK, I just found out my deductible is $30,000. EACH. Florida is no bed of roses either.

Converting to communism, like making sausage, isn’t pretty. We should all just shut up and accept what Barack will and will not let us do. /s

What kind of a plan is that? It doesn't seem to be an exchange plan. Even the under-30 'catastrophic' plan (in my state) sets the deductible at $12,700 per family.

Do we really want to hear from Californians about how bad this is? They would vote for it again...

We had to destroy the healthcare system to save it.

It’s what the exchange set me up with. Of course I’m dealing with an obvious error but meanwhile, I count as one of the “insureds” even though there effectively is no coverage beyond catastrophic catastrophy.

IIRC, I read something a while back about coverage if you were injured on vacation out of your home state. That you might not be covered by your Obamacare policy.

Another stupid blanket statement about Californians.
FR is California based. Go somewhere else.

Yes, and I donate to FR as often as I can.

New York is mostly rural, too. Doesn’t mean it isn’t dominated by Democrats.

You would stay on hold if you were trying to make sure your kids had healthcare coverage.

Rural? Urban? What I am talking about is so many of you
demonstrate no respect for the millions (yes, millions) of
Californians who happen to be conservative. Shocking, I
know, but Californians don’t vote in lock step. Unfortunately,
we are no longer the majority and among the libs who made us
the minority are one time neighbors of yours. Your gain, our loss.

My husband was laid off in November but had insurance through Jan 2014 and then we would be able to get Cobra. Our Cobra for the 2 of us is 1200.00 a month we have paid for 3 moths so far and if my husband does not get a job soon we will have to cancel the Cobra we just can not afford it anymore. We like it because it was the existing insurance he had through his work something that Obamacare can not and will not do. I hope we have a happy ending soon too.
