CEO Dan Cathy wants his company to get past a controversy in 2012 over his anti-gay marriage comments by starting to focus more on attracting younger customers and leaving the public discussion of social issues to politicians
Chick-fil-A wants to move beyond recent controversy over the fast food chains stance on gay marriage as it looks to court younger customers.
CEO Dan Cathy told USA Today in an interview published Monday that hes bringing the company into a millennial-friendly era that will not only include new menu items and store locations, but a new perspective on what beliefs should and shouldnt be shared with the public.

Sounds like they’ve caved. Fine. I NEVER liked their food, but I did go there on a regular basis when I thought they stood for something.
...back to McDonalds and BK.
I agree. If they want liberals that badly, they can have them. I can live without CFA. I am just very disappointed. Next the Duck Dynasty family will cave.
What a disappointment. We like Zaxby’s.
I love their chicken salad sandwich. And they are right across the street from CFA.
Lets hold our fire. This is Time magazine after all.
Yes. But that will enable them to open more stores in homosexual-friendly environments (Blue-states).
So, obviously that is more important than integrity.
Its so crazy, they surpassed KFC probably because of our support.
The once-tiny, regional chain just surpassed giant KFC to become the nation’s largest chicken chain in domestic sales.
It was reported on various sites. A friend just posted it on FB. I didn’t believe it when I read it on FB and had to see for myself. If you find it to not be true, please let me know so I can apologize to CFA for my post on their FB page.
Huckabee covered it the other night, and Tony Perkins (FRC) weighed in also - it's an official cave.
So much for Ephesians 6:13, Mr. Cathy ("and having done all, STAND.")
They have good salads. I am not a fan of their fries, but I don’t like waffle fries much either. Good tea, good chicken, good salad. :)
They are going to decline big time if they cave
Now everyone calm down a bit. He didn’t exactly endorse gay marriage; from what I could read, he was saying that he was going to stop commenting about things publicly and worry about selling chicken. Is that caving?
all the business owner wants to is sell sandwiches and grow his business
I think he is right to refuse to discuss his PERSONAL beliefs with a rabid media looking to lynch him
bunch of baying dogs they have become -
Screw the media.
If they want to interview him, let them ask him about chicken sandwiches and organizational management.
Otherwise NO COMMENT
was he sent to a communist re-education camp??
Time would love to blow anything up into more than it is.
CHICK-FIL-A is lowering the heat?? They never applied any heat! It’s the mcCarthyite* left who are on a jihad to squash dissent and destroy anyone who disagrees with them.
*Yes, I get the irony. Joe McCarthy was right; there actually were Soviet agents in the State Department, and the left defended them tooth and nail.
Bob, if you don’t mind, tell me just where he caved.
He didn’t cave.
The reporting is clever though...
Eating out is a rip-off anyway...Food is expensive enough, much less expensive to eat at home..
If Chick-Fil-A introduces the Hershey Hiway Sandwich, I would probably avoid the place.
Well he did stick his neck out. Having been stuck out, it’s awkward to unstick it.
There’s always going to be this debate in Christendom. Should we get in the public’s face about issues of public morality. I’d say yes, with the caveat that our morality ought to be better than the public’s before we do it. And here’s where the statistics are troubling. No, not as many “gays” in Christendom, but other comparative sexual purity measures are suffering.
I am calm. I would like to know if it is true that he stopped corporate giving to family friendly charities. If he did, then he caved.
That said, I had my first CFA since last summer a week ago. It was good. Hubby and I have been eating Zaxby’s since we tried it last summer. Zaxby’s chicken is better in my opinion.
Interesting you actually think Time got the story correct.
I don’t see any caving. They’re a restaurant. They sell chicken. They have great service. Their opinion on gay marriage is, in fact, totally irrelevant. They have no role in policy or anything else. The owner just happened to make a comment a few years ago.
He appears to be saying that he’ll not link his opinions with Chick-Fil-A in the future. He didn’t say he’s FOR gay marriage now.
CFA is more expensive than other fast food but I was willing to go out of my way to frequent their establishments. Not anymore.
Not standing up for what you believe because you want to appease someone, in my mind, is caving. He wants in NY and figures this is the way to do it.
Let me know when he makes his NEXT personal statement supporting traditional marriage.
...until then, HE CAVED, as far as I’m concerned.
Whatever else would be considered a cave?
If that allegation is true (I’m not so sure though) it would be better for him to get grassroots support in New York.
I don’t see anyone caving. Chick-fil-A is in the business of selling chicken. They continue to sell chicken. Their job as Christians is to run an honest business in accordance with their faith. They do that, too.
They are closed on Sundays. They treat their employees well. They give a tremendous amount of money and product to their community.
The owners choose to not engage in divisive subjects because it prevents them from doing what they’re good at unhindered.
If you feel that they aren’t Christian because they don’t scream from the top of their lungs, I sincerely hope you are doing the same.
Are you calling out every percieved wrong you see at the top of your lungs?
Are you forever screaming loud about the failings of others?
If not, why not, since you insist CFA do just that?
Corporations on the other side are hardly “caving” An outpouring of support put Duck Dynasty back on the air. CFA got lots of business, including my first ever purchases (and several subsequently), in Cathy’s support I even sent an email of support.
Now this. I won’t be going back.
They have not caved, just slick reporting. He just said he wished he had not been so vocal in the past on the subject, but he is still a good fellow in my book. Runs a retreat here locally and it still is a good clean place for people to relax, our church group got to spend an evening there last year (for married couples only).
It’s funny how this issue has stolen all other issues of Christendom.
If you’ve actually been IN a Chik-Fil-A, it is very notable how servant-minded they are. They are polite; none of this rote “how-can-I-help-you” followed by gabbing it up with a co-worker in some language other than English while you stand there waiting for them to pay attention to you again. Then they bring your stuff out to your table. And if you ask, it’s an unwritten rule you can get as much lemonade (regular or diet) as you want.
This one issue is stealing attention from everything else. I think on balance the devil laughs at the kind of infighting it causes. Every Christian who now refuses Chik-Fil-A is another notch in his hellish headboard.
It really seemed to mean something for awhile to go across town to Chik-Fil-A, proud that they would take a stand. Now they’re just another fast food joint.
That’s so very true, especially when you consider buying by the recipe.
I am curious: What motivates you? It's obviously not righteousness.
Post 37 applies to you.
Post 37 applies to both of you.
I’m curious: Do you intend to never again visit or buy something which profits a blue state? Because you would certainly have no integrity if you ever did.
DON'T BE SO QUICK TO JUDGE FROM A LIBERAL RAG !!!
Sounds more like silenced than caved. Still this is disappointing. They may as well open their stores on Sundays too while they are at it.
Looking around, it doesn’t just look like the rabid media who is quick to lynch.
One has to do lots of “reading between the lines” to conjur up a cave from what the man told Time mag.
He was courageous in his stand for marriage before, now he will shut up about it, at the insistence of the sodomite hordes.
If that’s not a cave, then nothing can be.
Interesting. Do you view your own lack of speech at work or in public as a similar “cave?” I would have thought you would have probably self-censored at some point in your life.
I guess you spout off everywhere, all the time, to everyone.
You must be fun to witness in movie theaters.
Agreed and I could care less what Chick Filet or any other restaurant known to man thinks about the homosexual agenda!
The CEO is a fool to allow the little Marxist reporters to drag him into ANY comment on the issue.
His stock reply should be something like..........”look, we are in the food business and welcome ALL citizens of the U.S.............period! Then walk away...........every time.
The libs all eat tofu and arugula. I will not go to Chick fil A anymore since they now seem to want to promote homosexual agenda
Kinda like the guy from Mozilla.
He hasn't “slapped” anyone down. He still believes what he's said and he will continue to support it more in private now. He will open more restaurants and continue to share Biblical principles as he does so.
By the way, have you put your name on the line in a similar fashion for godly marriages? Somehow, I don't seem to recall your name pilloried in public. Could you help direct us to where you've taken a similar stand?
No? Well then, you are your own poor example.
