UKRAINE IS UNITED: President Turchynov’s address to the people of Ukraine
Euromaidan PR ^ | April 13, 2014 | Acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov

Address of the Acting President of Ukraine, Head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov to the People of Ukraine

Dear fellow citizens!

Today is a great Christian holiday — the day of our Lord’s entry into Jerusalem. When he entered the city, all greeted him with “Hosannas” and threw clothing and palm branches under his feet. And in a few days, these same people demanded his crucifixion.

Unfortunately, today this celebration is marred by aggression and blood. One day ago, coordinated terrorist troops of the Russian Federation seized control of police and other administrative buildings in several cities of the Donetsk Oblast.

This event was especially dangerous in the city of Slovyansk, where professionally trained criminals dressed in Russian camouflage and armed with Russian automatic weapons did their work.

This morning they fired automatic weapons on the column of law enforcement units that were responsible for defending citizens on this festive Sunday. These criminals let out a barrage of fire while hiding behind a living shield of local residents, who had been deceived by Russian propaganda.

During this operation, the captain of the special Alpha unit of Interior Services, Hennadiy Bilichenko, was killed. The commander of the Alpha unit Colonel Kuznetsov and colonel Kuksa of the Security Services were seriously injured. Also injured was Selikhov, an employee of Interior Services.

The blood of Ukrainian heroes was shed for our land, for our one and only, sovereign, indivisible Ukraine.

Blood was shed in a war conducted against Ukraine by the Russian Federation. The aggressor does not stop and continues to organize unrest in the East of our country.

This is not a war between Ukrainians. This is an artificially created confrontation designed to weaken and destroy Ukraine itself. Eventually, however, it will weaken our enemies. Russia today is condemned by the entire civilized world. We have done everything to avoid casualties, but we are prepared to resist all attempts at invasion, destabilization, and armed terrorist attacks.

The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has decided to launch a large-scale anti-terrorist operation jointly with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We will not allow Russia to repeat the Crimean scenario in the eastern regions of Ukraine.

Those who have not fired on our security forces and who agree to put down their arms and vacate administrative buildings by Monday morning, will be amnestied. I have signed a decree to give guarantees against the implementation of appropriate punishment for past actions.

We are ready to consider granting significant empowerment to the regions and to implement broad reforms for greater local self-government as well as the renewal of local government.

However, anyone who engages in armed struggle against our country in support of the aggressors will not escape punishment and responsibility.

I appeal to all fellow citizens in the East of our country. Do not become tools in a cynical and foreign war against your own country. Do not support those who wish to destroy peace and tranquility and who are thrusting your region into the abyss of economic catastrophe, the abyss of civil conflict.

I appeal to those who want to protect Ukraine. It is essential not to destabilize the situation in Ukraine and not to collaborate with the enemy and his agents, whose sole purpose is to disrupt the elections, to overthrow the government, and to create chaos and lawlessness.

I appeal to every Ukrainian. In the face of foreign aggression, we must unite. We must all do everything possible so that we put an end to the panic and stop dragging society into civil conflict. Only together, certain of each other’s support, will we overcome all our current problems. I believe that will happen.

May God bless Ukraine and each one of us.

Nice try, the south and west are a majority ethnic Ukrainian even though the majority speaks Russian. The area that is attached to Crimea is only about 15% Russian. Putin just might lose a fair vote.

Europe is very frightened by Putin. They’re like Kerry in that they believe war is archaic. They’ve bet on that with low defense spending. So they’re shocked by Putin’s recklessness.

How many million Ukranians did the Russians starve to death in a deliberate and methodical way?

Shame. You do know that Ukraine helped us with combat troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan? We should feel so proud. We F#cked a people who were thought we were their friends. And you think it’s funny.

I don’t think it’s funny...I’m just very happy they don’t have nuclear weapons....they are way too unstable.

Anyone that wishes they had nukes is plain nuts.

Russia just might lose a fair vote

That's where it's beyond belief the way the Kiev thugs have handled things. If they had a popular vote immediately after Crimea became part of Russia, I'd think they would've won. Why? All of those Crimean pro-Russian votes would be gone. Even before that, I wonder if there would've been a problem at all if they hadn't almost immediately removed Russian as an official language.

And now they're getting loans they can never pay back from the IMF and US to pay the higher prices for gas, rather than behaving like a sensible nation that could benefit economically from being the buffer between Russia and EU.

I doubt they could govern any worse than they're doing.

The can never be a fair vote because of past Soviet Russian policies of exiling Ukrainians and importing Russians into Ukraine.

This is the legacy and result of a tyrannical state. And now we sit and watch Putin slurpers, instructing Ukraine how to be “reasonable”, after Russia illegally annexes sovereign land of Ukraine.

This is a joke...as is the Russian propaganda.

there can never be a fair vote because of....

That's why so many of us object to the invasion of the US. In a fair vote, those from other places can win if they become too numerous. The Ukranian reality is the people who are citizens now. From the outside, it looks like the thug gov in Kiev is doing everything wrong if they want to win them over.

Look at it this way. 400 years ago almost everyone in North America was a native American Indian. Do they have rights to run the country now? Of course not. The people who are citizens do the voting.

Yes, the slurping of Putin continues.

Russia is totally wrong, so deflect to other issues.

This ignoramus propaganda may work in information controlled places like Russia and Serbia, but not here on FR. Only the small 5 percent of useful idiots.

I DID NOT defer to other issues. You said votes of Russian speaking residents aren't reflective of Ukraine, because Russia for centuries replaced Ukranians with Russians. I said that in the US we don't have the same population we did a few centuries ago, but here it's the people who are now US citizens who get to vote. And that's how it should be.

The Kiev government can't turn back the clock. But why did they do everything imaginable to alienate so much of the population?

None of this would've happened if (1) the Kiev thugs didn't abolish Russian as an official language or then (2) held a popular vote as soon as possible after Crimea was gone, before they messed up again.

Take the time to wipe the slurp off your face and think.

I’m sure you are smart enough to see your weak deflections.

This is pretty simple. Russia illegally annexed the land of a sovereign nation. Now, Russia is instigating the BS in Eastern Ukraine and has sent in Russian paramilitary to take Ukrainian government buildings.

That is the issue. These illegal actions.

Your Putin slurping is obvious in your referring to the people who threw out a corrupt murdering puppet as thugs.

“Russia is the great evil because they did bad things in the past” Says the country that cleared a continent of inhabitants that stood in their way of free land. Free land that they said their god had provided for them.

Said the country that put people on trains to assist in breaking the spirit of the resistance by indiscriminately slaughtering the remaining buffalo and letting them rot in great piles. The natives deprived of food and starving looked at the piles of rotting meat and wondered at the heart of the people that were capable of this.|

Those we didn’t kill we drove to reservations with promises of food and land. Some of the promised land, we actually kept our word. The promised food didn’t come. We then allowed enterprising businessmen to poison the remaining broken survivors with alcohol.

We took the remaining children the natives had away from them. We took the children that didn’t die on forced marches or die of starvation so we could make them “civilized”.

Have you seen this video? It sheds a little light on the idea that borders will never change.

It’s state sponsored terrorism. The tin pot Czar is pulling a page from the North Korean playbook. Disgusting.

Yeah the time to have stayed out of Ukrainian affairs was when we talked them into surrendering the 3 rd largest nuclear arsenal on the planet based on OUR guarantees.

The Clinton Administration....The "Gift" that keeps on giving.
