Liberals are winning the language war
Reuters ^ | 4/11/2014 | Keith Koffler

Are conservatives linguistically challenged? Or are they just naïve enough to think they can win the battle of ideas with — ideas?

Okay, and money.

Conservatives, like liberals, will spend huge amounts of money this year to get their ideas across to voters. But what they fail to do is bundle their thoughts into a bright, shiny linguistic package that explodes in the face of their enemies when opened.

The left has assembled a rich lexicon of phrases that serve either as stilettos that can be turned again and again in the guts of their opponents, or shields that obscure their true intentions.

The phrasing can be at best vicious, at worst dishonest. But conservatives should consider concocting some nasty comebacks, lest they continue to be perceived as Neanderthals battling forces of progress.

Did I just use the term “Neanderthal”? You immediately knew I couldn’t have meant liberals, because liberals are enlightened. They are Cro-Magnons, each and every one.

Now you see the problem.

Herewith, a list of the top liberal epithets and euphemisms. Let’s start with the former:

War on Women: When Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) noted a few weeks ago that Democrats, who accuse Republicans of waging a “war on women,” were strangely unappalled by President Bill Clinton’s “predatory” behavior, he was slyly undermining one of the worst charges lodged by Democrats.

Really? A war on women? This is blandly repeated by Democrats everywhere as accepted science. But how foolish. One supposedly hates women because . . .

Beautifully stated. When the GOP calls my house looking for money, I kindly tell them that my money will be going to conservative candidates instead. If I press them on any issue and ask why Republicans haven't done anything about it, I get back nothing but empty assurances.

In 2011, we gave the GOP control of the House. Since then, they have continued passing the same continuing resolutions that the Pelosi House passed in 2010. I really see no difference here. Democrats understand power and are willing to use it. Republicans understand the perks of power and don't want to risk losing them by rocking the boat. They are perfectly content to remain in the minority and avoid risk.

Unfortunately, as the Roman historian Livy said of his people in his time; “you can no longer tolerate your vices neither can you embrace the cure for them.” We are in the same historical stage, vice addicted and unable to stand the steps necessary to cure them. By vices I mean more than drugs, booze, copulation and the games, I mean egalitarianism, free floating “Rights Of Man,” one man one vote, the unchecked Third World invasion, tax and spend etc. etc.

Progressives running and governing as Republicans are not better than Dems. Only those with stockholm syndrome believe such a thing.

So Obama is a better POTUS then Romney or McCain or GWB would be?

Please. All 3 would suck badly, but would be infinitely better than Obama.

There is no winning in losing. If you believe that, you have problems much worse than “stockholm syndrome”.

-——Are conservatives linguistically challenged?-—

No, To illustrate, the term racism is being replaced with the word and concept of culturism.

Cultures and subcultures can be analyzed and discussed, praised and criticized

Culturists are free to observe and comment on what is visible and seems probable with no fear of criticism.

I am sure you also have good reasons why we must accept amnesty and kenyancare can never be repealed.

If you think Susan Collins and her ilk will ever vote to repeal you are day dreaming. Those folks are simply not interested in governing as conservatives. They happily pinch hit for Team Dem when they feel like it. Support them and their progressive agenda if you wish. I never will.

The MSM press trumpets elite liberal’s words and language changes. NONE Of the changes are being presented to citizens by paid advertisement. The MSM works for democrats for free.

The good news is conservatives are fighting Hollywood, all United States newspapers but one, all TV Networks, all TV cable channels except one... and we’re STILL GETTING OUR MESSAGE OUT.

That’s what’s amazing.

Yes, we must oppose every Republican who votes the wrong way, even if they do it once.

Who needs any Republicans from MA, MD, CA, NY ,...???
In fact even those from states like OH, WI, VA, PA, FL, .. cant be trusted.

Our GOP representatives must be pure, if they vote the way Levin and Rush say they should ON EVERY SINGLE VOTE that's good enough.

Even if it means the GOP wins in only 15 pure states, if they are pure and vote 100% right then we are on our way to what the Founders envisioned.

SOL, it’s not worth arguing.

Let the Flat Earth Society shuffle about until dinner’s served at 3 PM, then it’s lights off by 7 PM.

RE :”SOL, it’s not worth arguing.”

I have mixed opinion about the subject, case by case, as I do on most.

There is no simple rule to this unfortunately.

This is an opinion blog on Reuters...the part of their output that gets noticed by hundreds of people..perhaps.

They do it because it offers plausible deniability of bias.

Why are you putting words in my mouth? I never said every vote. The problem is progressive republicans play for Team Dem on the big issues. They allow the Dems/MSM to use them to damage conservative opposition to the progressive agenda. OTOH for example, no blue dog Dem crossed Pelosi on the obamacare vote.

If you can’t see the difference in how the parties operate you are part of the problem. Insisting on party line voting in support of a dysfunctional GOP makes you the purist, FRiend.

“Even the word “liberal” itself, isn’t supposed to mean “socialist”. They co-opted it.”
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Yes and now that they are through with it they have thrown it away in favor of “progressive” which is being applied to those who have ideas that in reality are REgressive. Liberal will never again be used in its original meaning just as “gay” will never again refer to simply being happy and having a great time.

Anyone who ever imagined that the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” had anything to do with either one is hopelessly naive and should rely on someone else to manage his affairs for him. You can mark the descent of America into the abyss by the history of government scheming to take over medicine. Richard Nixon originated the plan but never even attempted to pass the law, Hillary Clinton attempted to do it in the first year of Slick Willy’s administration but could not even get it out of a committee controlled by her own party. By 2010 a large enough percentage had become as muddle headed as Joe Biden that it could be forced through without the support of a single Republican. If you have someone around you who was silly enough to support this travesty keep your eyes open, they are not to be trusted.

That's false. It received a critical vote from a GOPer in committee. You can thank Olympia Snowe (R) for kenyancare.

RE :”OTOH for example, no blue dog Dem crossed Pelosi on the obamacare vote .”

Yes, I can see you have the facts at hand. I bet you would do great as a spokesman with lines like that. You could win the 'war' for us.

The 219-212 roll call Sunday by which the House passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
A “yes” vote is a vote to pass the bill.
Voting yes were 219 Democrats and 0 Republicans.
Voting no were 34 Democrats and 178 Republicans.

You Can't Hide: See Who Voted for Obamacare (Fox News 3/21/2010)

Yep, not one. Now that is purity.
You must get your facts from a couple of talk radio hosts. Republicans should get their lines from them.

You’re right about that but I was referring to the vote on the actual passage of the law.
