Russias military carried out a flight test of a new multi-warhead intercontinental ballistic missile on Monday amid growing tensions with the United States over the crisis in Ukraine.
The SS-27 Mod 2 road-mobile ICBM was launched around 2:40 a.m. EST from Russias Plesetsk launch facility, located about 500 miles north of Moscow.
The main purpose of the launch is to validate the reliability of a batch of this class of missiles made at the Votkinsk Plant, Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Yegorov told state-run Interfax-AVN.
An unspecified number of simulated nuclear warheads landed at an impact range on the Kura test range on the Kamchatka Peninsula, in the Russian Far East, Yegorov said. The distance is around 3,500 miles.

....this just keeps on getting better and better....
did they finally get the plans from hillary?
she got them to the chinese 15 years ago... i guess ‘reset’ means ‘what would you like?’
Time to dust off the old MIRV buses and get down to business. IIRC the MX could carry 10, MMIII three...
Lessee, we have:
Bammy the Poser as CIC
Biden the Clown as vice-CIC
Ketchup Kerry as SOS
Chuck Pandering Hagel as SecDef
Here’s a little video on the SS-27 — sleep well. Yeah I bought more canned chicken and potatoes tonight. No 9mm to be found but I’ll look elsewhere. There are a few other stores.
Keep those prayers going.
This should give our druken Veep something to talk about when he visits the New Soviet Union. Like, Vodka.
It looks like a giant olive drab dildo on wheels.
We do the same thing.
Gee....what IS this new-fangled type of MULTIPLE WARHEAD?
I know! Let’s call it a Multiple Independently targeted Reentry Vehicle - we can call it MIRV! Eureka.
As the US keeps up with its’ unilateral disarmament except when it comes to the civilian defense force that attacked the Bundy ranch. Now we know what he meant by civilian defense force. Not to protect but to protect from.
At the same time, Obama, working on behalf of America’s enemies, is dismantling the U.S. multiple warhead ICBMs, ensuring that each missile only carries a single warhead. Irrespective of design capabilities.
AND, Obama is castrating our SLBM force by disabling several launch tubes in each Sub.
Did I mention that Obama has also ensured our most advanced aircraft are NOT nuclear capable.
“It looks like a giant olive drab dildo on wheels.”
And we’re all gonna get screwed.
It looks like a really good idea ... too bad Jimmy Carter was a wuss and “Tip” O’Neill was a communist. We should have something along the same lines, but better.

Anyone have any idea how many MIRVs the SS-27 M2 throws?
I nosed around a bit, but didn’t see any firm information. I figure Russia will brag about it soon enough.
Their older designs had as many as ten warheads per missile.
The 1980s called, and they want their foreign policy back.
There was a rumor of two but AFAIK, one.
About .55 megatons to .6 megaton.
Enough to cause a bad day wherever it comes down.

That was the M1 version. The article mentions that ‘An unspecified number of simulated nuclear warheads landed at an impact range on the Kura test range on the Kamchatka Peninsula’, I’m curious as to what that number might be.

That’s for sure, 600 KT is the more than the yield of our SLBM Trident II warheads (475 KT), and forty times the explosive force of the Hiroshima bomb...
Interestingly, our Trident IIs were designed to carry up to 14 warheads, but the SORT 1 treaty reduces this to “4 or 5”, according to Wikipedia.
bump for later.
[ Interestingly, our Trident IIs were designed to carry up to 14 warheads, but the SORT 1 treaty reduces this to 4 or 5, according to Wikipedia. ]
Probably 4-5 “Active” Warheads, the missle could contain ANY number of “Fake” dummy warheads that could easily be swapped out with real warheads and vice versa...
So if it contained 12 for instance over half would be “dummies” of course if actual war breaks out do you really think they wouldn’t increase that percentage to over 80%....
The idea behind “Dummy warheads” is not only to freak out the radar but if there ever is a laser missle defense system you have a higher chance of getting more through the more dummies you use and you can always “claim” that the dummies onthe missle are just dummies and not actual warheads...
[The 1980s called, and they want their foreign policy back. ]
I am more worried about that call on the party line from the operator at the switchboard telling me that the 1930’s want their foreign policy back...
Russia is behaving like Russia.
It is a warning. Russian force doctrine is that if a nuclear armed power attacks them with conventional weapons, they will respond with atomic weapons.
Ivan had multiple warhead nukes during the ‘60s. All in favor of cowering are anti-American commies/fascists—no circumstantial exceptions.
Meanwhile...In other news...
blah blah blah...
Goodnight, and have a pleasant tomorrow...
I don’t know anyone with any sense who has slept well since that POS got into office.
chicken and potatoes? damn it, now I’m hungry.
WAl-Mart, among others, is where I get a few thinks.
Double-can of chicken breast was $3.78. Diced potatoes were 68 cents.
I just made a 15-bean soup adding in the potatoes. And some Bush’s white beans and a couple other beans. So it’s 18-bean soup. Plus olive oil (a bit), paprika, onion powder, a finely-diced white onion, salt, pepper, parsley flakes, margarine (or butter), and chili powder, red wine vinegar and a small bit of soy sauce.
Soaked the beans for 8-10 hours (15 bean in bags at many stores). Then about 3 hours cooking jumping between slow boil and simmer.
Drop some shredded cheese on top and you’ve got some fine eating.
Oh yeah, a couple Johnsonville brauts I braised in Worcester, soy sauce, white onion, butter until the onions were almost black. Deglaze the pan and add to the soup.
Diced that up with about 3 diced Polish sausage. And a few pieces of shredded ham. Let that simmer with the beans about 90 minutes of that 3 hours at the end.
You seem to think the US military is the same as it once was, before being usurped by a gay pro-Muzzie imposter enemy, whom is dismantling it piece by piece.
But then, there have been a lot of changes, and a new generation has the keys.
I guess most of the staff writers out there weren't even a twinkle in daddy's eye when the Cold War wound down...it's all new to them.
So...I guess that the concept of ‘decoys’ within a MIRV load would be completely foreign and alien to them too, huh?
We are rife with ill educated journalists pretending to provide us with the truth now. A sad, sad state.
I noticed the same going on with 'Education degrees' when I was an undergrad, many, many moons ago.
Man, you’re just evil.
Now I gotta go fix this for tomorrow, and I’m really hungry now dagnabit.
Hey sharing my recipe. You just gotta buy the ingredients and make it.
And THEN you can thank me!
Wall-Mart, among others, is where I get a few things.
Also, after you soak the beans for 8-10 hours, rinse and start with fresh water when cooking.
You’ll need a fine strainer pot to allow the dirty water to pass and hold the beans. I rinse them again with the sprayer in the strainer before returning them to the Dutch Oven or deep soup pot.
