The case of cattle rancher Cliven Bundy burst into the national news cycle over the past week, captivating conservative media outlets with its protagonist, a firm believer of states' right with an armed group of supporters backing him. The stand-off between Nevada rancher and federal government officials trying to push cattle off of protected federal land has paused for now, but officials plan to renew their efforts soon. This most-recent skirmish is only the latest in a decades-long fight between the federal government and Cliven Bundy, however. Here's a timeline that proves just how complicated this case is — as well as the power that the media still retains to elevate a local political issue into a national one.

Exactly. I love how idiotic they are whining about “protecting the land and animals”. It’s a FREAKIN’ DESERT! Not much to protect.

The law was arbitraily changed in the 90’s by Clinton with, what I understand, without Congress. Just another executive power grab ala Idaho under Clinton.

He pays his county and state grazing fees because the law says so. The money goes directly to help local farmers. Then, out of the blue, the feds decided the money should go to the U.S. Treasury instead where it wasn’t “earmarked” (a lie actually - no tax money is truly earmarked or Soc Sec would be sitting on trillions in funds) for local farmers.

At least that’s how I saw it explained.

4 Waco Texas and Ruby Ridge Idaho — Name two places in American history where Bill Clinton’s Attorney General killed Americans.

Geez louise - get your facts straight. Ruby Ridge happened in AUG 1992 during POTUS #41 GHWB's watch. Too many folks running around half-cocked. Let's not stumble into a fight when it's not justified. I agree that BHO is looking for a provocation to put the hammer down with his civilian defense force.

No one is violating any laws. We are just delaying the implementation of compliance until after the midterm elections.
