Pound for pound soccer threads bring out the ignorance like no other topic.

Soccer stinks. Only the low-testosterone types watch it. Did I say “soccer stinks”?

There is nothing as edge-of-seat exciting as a 1-0 World Cup soccer game.

If you have a vested interest in one of the teams, it's very nerve-wracking.

How interesting is a football or baseball game between two teams you don't care about? Once you get vested in a team, you get hooked. I've been following Everton for the past few years.

Probably one of the best moments in sports I ever witnessed was the final day of the 2012 Premier League season when Manchester City scored late to win the title over Manchester United.

I remember seeing photos of the female Paraguayan and Swedish soccer fans from recent tourneys but not so much of the games.

MLS equals MLB in popularity with kids

Maybe that says more about the decline of baseball than anything.

Full contact, twice as many players, more balls in play, smaller fields, blindfold the goalies, pads and helmets and arm the defenders with field hockey sticks.

Thanks for proving my point so quickly. Club soccer is growing like a weed here. I mentored a boy who plays on a club championship team in Maine(lots of real estate) and they are having a hard time finding fields to practice on because of the demand). There are entire soccer complexes that have sprung up out of nowhere and they are filled in the Northeast from March til November.

1. Women's soccer is better than men's because they fall down and cry only when blood is spraying out or a limb is pointed in a medically unlikely direction.

2. Soccer is best when recorded and watched at 2x or 3x speed. It is nicely paced at that. (but then football is best watched with the 30 second skip button to jump over the huddle to the next play)

PS And use those big, red rubber kickballs. 4 or 5 of them.

Soccer is supposed to be less dangerous and more participative.

But like all sports, when it is done at the highest level, the best hog the ball most of the time, and they do so by running over others.

The "soccer" that most kids play when they're forced to is like T-Ball is to real baseball.

Soccer is still boring as hell, especially on TV, and is the official sport of the UN and One World Government folks.

If it weren't for soccer hooliganism, they're would be absolutely no point to it, but then there's lots of things in our world that make no sense at all to me.

Horsesh!t.

Soccer will never catch on in a country where real sports are played. Soccer doesn't test anything but an athletes endurance; there is no strength or focus required, and most damning: it's completely mindless.

Baseball and football involve strategy. Intelligence is a huge part of those games. Soccer: no intelligence whatsoever is required, just random running around. Idiots have been predicting for years that soccer is about to break out in the American market ANY DAY NOW.

It has never happened, and never will. A game whose sole novelty is pretending not to have arms or hands isn't going to catch on in a country with as many great, actual, consummate athletes as America. In weenie countries, yes. In America, no.

it has never had the following here that it does in the rest of the world.

It doesn't because we have actual sports.

Maybe that says more about the decline of baseball than anything.

It's a commentary on the chickification of America. Soccer is a game that weenie suburban moms encourage their swishy little boys to play. Once the testosterone starts to flow, no male is interested in soccer.
