ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WJBK) -- Detroit high school student Brooke Kimbrough, along with the pro-affirmative action group By Any Means Necessary, staged a protest Tuesday to demand more diversity at the University of Michigan.

BAMN is demanding an immediate appeal on behalf of Kimbrough and Birmingham Seaholm student Daisha Martin. Both applied to the university school and were denied admission.

Kimbrough, who is black, says she carries a 3.6 GPA, scored a 23 (out of 36) on the ACT test and is a leader of University Prep High School's winning debate team. Martin's is president of Seaholm's Black Student Union, plays the violin and started an annual march against racism. Her academic records were not made public.

"I believe I have been rejected because of the morals I stand for," said Kimbrough. "I will make it my civic duty to document every news of a rejection letter that the university produces to our black, brown and red bodies."

A 23 and a 3.6? The 3.6 isn't bad and a 23 is average to slightly above average. Overall, you're not going to get into most places with that score.

If you want to get into UM or MSU with that, take two years at a community college and transfer. In other words, shut up and get to work.

OR get a 4-yr degree somewhere else and then come back for Grad School.

BAMN is too broke to lose, how can they afford to protest?

This is truly elite college material.

The girl who wrote this epic rant is now a UofM student.

To (All) the Colleges That Rejected Me If only I had a tiger mom or started a fake charity.

For starters, had I known two years ago what I know now, I would have gladly worn a headdress to school. Show me to any closet, and I would've happily come out of it. "Diversity!" I offer about as much diversity as a saltine cracker. If it were up to me, I would've been any of the diversities: Navajo, Pacific Islander, anything. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, I salute you and your 1/32 Cherokee heritage.

Ouch. I took the ACT in 7th grade as part of the Duke TIP program. Scored a 27. And she’s proud of her 12th grade-level score of 23?

You can’t get in to U of M with less than a 28. And a 3.6 isn’t that great, either, if it was a 3.6. I’d originally heard 3.5.

When my nephew first applied to U of M Med school, his academics were stellar, unfortunately he didn't fall into the "quota" group. As a result, they rejected him for that year but told him they could accept him the following year if he was still interested.

So, he took the year off and was invited to Europe to play on a pro-hockey team there. After that year, he came home and went on to U of M.......

Seaholm’s Black Student Union? Does Seaholm High have a Caucasian Student Union?
