GIZMODO ^ | 4/16/2014 | Nick Stango

It's been 50 years since Ford built the world-renowned 1965 Mustang and placed it high above Manhattan on the 86th floor of the Empire State Building. Last night, Ford came back with a bigger, yellower, all around more complicated car from 2015 and decided to recreate the famous stunt as a 50-year homage—only this time, they did it in the snow and over the course of just 5 hours.

Ugh; it’s that “Mustang” that resembles the Ford Fusion too closely. They had a winner in the previous model that resembled the original; something tells me this will be their next Mustang II.

We live in a world where they put ~four~ doors on a Hemi Charger.

Why not 3D-print it?

Well, that’s Chrysler for you. They also renamed the Dodge Omni 024 as the Charger when they put the turbo four from the Daytona in there.

Fiat owns the whole shebang right now, so the destiny of those models is strictly up to that company.

TTIUWOP

1970 Hemi Charger (one of 13)

And another one

And a 1970 Baccaruda. (I actually rode shotgun in one of these, back then.)

And the Mustang Mach 1

Though there may have been a 302 4-spd Mustang II, it was still the Pinto-Mustang. The Falcon-Mustang was much better.

The Falcon-Mustang was the original. And the four-barrel 289 was way better on horsepower than any 302 (140 hp) that the Pinto-Mustang had (the one to own was the solid-lifter 289 with 271 horses).

Oh, wait, they DID have one of those:

AWD too.

No manual though ;-(.

“We live in a world where they put ~four~ doors on a Hemi Charger.”

The originals were so cheap high school kids could buy them. Insurance was cheap or not legally required, depending on where you lived. Last year the AVERAGE price of a car was $32,000. Not a lot of people can have two cars these days. I stopped driving my 2003 Mercury Marauder because it costs .50 per mile. Since I have it licensed I have minimum insurance which still costs $500. So, if they expect to sell enough cars to keep a line open those cars must have a higher degree of utility than a mere two doors. If they were just two doors they’d probably not sell enough to keep the model going.

Incidentally, government, one of the prime price drivers, has decreed all cars sold in 2018 must have backup cameras because each year a few people run over their kids. (What do you want to bet cameras don’t change that statistic by even one child?)

The have had that 6.4L engine option since the 2011 model year, actually. It replaced the 6.1L engine.

I’m betting on ~450hp for the regular Mustang GT at launch in late 2014.

We will have the 3.7L, the 2.3T, and the 5.0 as the engine lineup.

Later on they will revise the engine lineup and then the GT will get the big power bump.

I’m most interested in the ~305hp/~310tq 2.3T though. I can see tuners salivating over that engine.

I think late in 2015 we will have the 2.3T, the 3.5T, and the 5.0 as the three engines. The 3.7L will be gone.

It’s interesting that they required a $59 harbor Freight floor jack to do it:
http://www.harborfreight.com/15-ton-compact-aluminum-racing-floor-jack-with-rapid-pump-69252.html
I know, I know, it says $89. I currently have a $59 coupon, and I have bought two of them for $59. There weren’t any of those available in 1964, and floor jacks of that vintage would have been almost as heavy as the engine.

Apropos of nothing, I saw a Duster toolin' down my road this morning.
Not some pristine, restored, toothbrush pampered museum piece .. just a generic tan Duster goin' into town for groceries or whatever.
First one I remember seeing in ~20yrs .. lol !
