What a Godsend.
Senator Pat Roberts of Kansas is being challenged by Dr. Milton Wolf, and today, Wolf received a huge gift from Washington DC.
Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius Campaigns For Obama In MichiganThe Drudge Report linked to an article in the New York Times that Kathleen Sebelius might consider running for Senate from Kansas after resigning from the Obama administration.
Ms. Sebelius is considering entreaties from Democrats who want her to run against that old friend, Senator Pat Roberts, Republican of Kansas.
Several Democrats said this week that Ms. Sebelius had been mentioned with growing frequency as someone who could wage a serious challenge to Mr. Roberts, 77, who is running for a fourth term and is considered vulnerable. One person who spoke directly to Ms. Sebelius said that she was thinking about it, but added that it was too soon to say how seriously she was taking the idea.
Senator Roberts helped Sebelius become HHS Secretary, and though he used forceful wording to condemn her incompetence recently, he openly pushed for her nomination and confirmation. These crony deals in Washington DC happen because though both Roberts and Sebelius come from Kansas, their connections are within the bubble of the DC political arena. Why would Roberts keep pushing Sebelius career if not because he has political ties with the former Governor? The problem is, shes a leftist Democrat and now Senator Roberts faces almost no chance of winning in the general, because he cant un-stick himself from her.

Let's remove the 77 year old back-scratcher with the Virginia license plates in August!
Hope she runs strictly on Obamacare!
I will be very surprised if Sebelius runs. She may form an exploratory committee so that she can raise some money and do some travel, but I doubt that she ends up running.
Roberts is not beatable by anyone.
He has this “likeable grumpy old man” schtick down that is really endearing and it is so good, I can not tell if it real or fake.
No way is a guy that likeable going to lose.
I’m with you....Roberts in a Rino.
But Milton Wolf is not the answer.
I usually don’t care about ‘electability’. But Pat Roberts has a 100% chance of beating Sebelius or any other democrat in Kansas. Milton Wolf’s chances are less than zero. His chances of winning in the general election have to be measured on the Kelvin scale, they are so low.
Wolf isn’t the answer. If for no other reason than Roberts is getting too old to keep running, a replacement has to emerge. But its not Wolf.
Roberts isn’t exactly a RINO, he votes VERY conservative. But he is a go along guy. He’s a solid vote for McConnell and in non-election years, he’ll give the establishment a vote when they need one to get things through cloture.
Wolf is the only guy to step up to the plate to challenge Roberts, so he has my support. I don’t fall for this “nominate somebody who can win” game. This is a republican year and Kansas is a republican state. Instead of nominating the same old coots, we can sweep in some young conservatives. This is what the Establishment fears. They need people to vote for McConnell and his ilk, so they’re protecting their own and destroying all challengers.
To me, Roberts’ biggest sin was supporting Sebelius.
Of all people, he should know better. Unlike his fellow senators, he knew that Sebelius’ political climb was fueled by Tiller the killer. He knew that Sebelius and her hack AG Morrison ‘threw’ the Tiller indictments in an illegal and cynical mis-use of her executive power. He know that she and Tiller had been ruthless and truthless in their destruction of Phil Kline.
So she comes up for nomination, and it turns out she hasn’t paid her taxes. Great...next nominee please. But wait, Pat Roberts personally vouched for her, she’s a great person, etc. He pushed her nomination through.
I find that unforgiveable.
But Milton Wolf is not the answer. This is more than ‘nominate somebody who can win’. This is ‘nominate somebody who has better than a snowball’s chance in h@ll’. A Wolf candidacy would be about nothing more than the gruesome x-rays he posted on Facebook. He certainly won’t win - and he wouldn’t even get a conversation going about conservative values. He will be ‘othered’, made out to be a freak...on pointed to as an example of a ‘kook’ Tea Party guy....
...because he kind of is a kook.
Keep him away from the conservative label.
BUMP that. It's the primaries ... no sitting Senator should feel that it's HIS or HER seat. Any challenger is welcome to run. Fight in the primary and then support the winner. Unfortunately, as you describe, this is what the Establishment fears and they've enlisted collaborators from the strangest of places too who are tying themselves in knots trying to justify their incumbent protection racket.
GOP Senate Seats Up For Election in 2014
Georgia: Chambliss (retiring)
Oklahoma: Coburn (retiring)
South Carolina: Graham
South Carolina: Scott
None of these sitting Senators should feel that they shouldn't get a primary challenge. And if they're doing their job representing their state and the conservative platform that they ran on six years ago ... i.e. Jeff Sessions ... they wouldn't fear any primary opponent anyways. If you fear a primary opponent, there's probably good reason for that based upon your voting record (including the REAL votes for CLOTURE, not the fake ones that McConnell set up but that didn't matter).
That’s why Weiner ran for mayor....to burn up that $4.3 M in campaign contributions he had left over before the big scandal.... million dollar apartment, cush payola to friends and relatives for campaign consultation, reimbursement for ‘expenses’, etc. Nice scam if you can get it.
It’s nice to see that somebody’s with me! The Establishment digs up one piece of dirt on these challengers and conservatives run for the hills. “We have to win the Senate! Don’t put a safe seat at risk!” they cry.
This is how we get types like Arlen Specter (became a democrat), Thad Cochran (attacking conservatives), John Warner (endorses democrats), Richard Lugar (endorses democrats), Ted Stevens (refuses to retire, gets defeated), Mitch McConnell (attacks conservatives), Orrin Hatch (pretends to be conservative, but helps democrats), Jim Jeffords (became independent to screw republicans and help democrats), etc.
“Honorable” mentions: Lincoln Chafee (became a democrat), Charlie Crist (could have been nominee, became a democrat), Mike Castle (would have replaced Arlen Specter as republican liberal in the senate).
These are the people the Establishment have supported year upon year, election after election...and the democrats have been assisted by these people time after time.
Wolf for Senate! Because enough is enough! Roberts: 77 years old. Lives in Virginia. Supported and voted for Sebelius. Been in Congress since 1981. And will vote for McConnell for Leader.
The race in Kansas should bring people to realize how important it is to elect new blood.
Not likely, when you have “Conservatives” on this website defending Pat Roberts every time his name comes up, saying what a good man he is and he REALLY is Conservative., etc.
Just curious, did you find it unforgiveable when Sam Brownback did the SAME THING? Because he's far less conservative than Pat Roberts is, and I remember Kansas conservatives making excuses for him at the time ("he only did it to get her out of Kansas" blah blah blah), and vouching for what a wonderful heroic pro-life leader he is during his campaign for Governor.
Now, suddenly, six years later, it's a "deal breaker" that Roberts did the same thing.
Interesting double standard... the LESS conservative Senator gets a pass.
Well....if Brownback gets challenged in a primary, it would worthwhile to discuss his credentials. I’m not sure you’ve put me in the position of being his defender. The thread was about Roberts.
I'm trying to figure out why Roberts is held to a different standard, which is even MORE bizarre given the fact that Pat Roberts is MORE conservative than Sam Brownback.
When Brownback voted for Sebelius, the collective response from Kansas conservatives was "Gosh, we can't blame him, he HAD TO vote for her since she's from Kansas and he only did it to get her out of Kansas. Nothing to see here, move along... its okay cuz Sam Brownback is such a wonderful pro-life patriot, he'll make a GREAT governor!"
Yet when Pat Roberts voted for her, its NOW an act of treason and unforgivable.
Why the differing standards? Brownback got a complete pass when he ran for Governor, and it was AFTER he voted for Sebelius. It seems to me you guys are "targeting" the wrong Republican, and vehemently against the more conservative one, while you heap praises on the LESS conservative one (amnesty loving Sam Brownback)
I have yet to meet one Kansas conservative that can justify their own actions on this issue.
1. You’re late to the party - you replied to a 3 week old post.
2. I’ve read my user manual several times, and I haven’t found anywhere that criticizing one senator without the mentioning the other constitutes a “double standard”. Frankly, I find it a little bit of offensive that you have accused me of that, based on nothing but thin air.
3. Roberts is in a primary election right now - Brownback is not.
4. These politicians are in completely different situations. On one hand we have a senator who has become way to comfortable residing in Washington and could use a good challenge. On the other hand we have a first termer, after the party finally wrestled the governorship back.
