Zero Covered Dentists Within 100 Miles for Mandatory Dental Plan Under Obamacare
breitbart.com ^ | March 27, 2014 | Scot Vorse

For years we have known that the claim under Obamacare, “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan,” was false.

We have also known that the claim under Obamacare, “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,” was false.

But what we didn’t know was that under Obamacare, “If you need a doctor, you may have to drive more than 100 miles to find a doctor.”

I noticed in my new Anthem monthly premium under Obamacare that I was required to pay a separate monthly charge for dental insurance for my two teenage children (I also have to pay the monthly charge even though I don’t receive the benefits, but that is a different issue). This dental plan was assigned to me and not my particular choice.

Today, it is time to take my kids in for their six-month cleaning, so I checked to see if their dentist is covered under my plan. They are not. OK – there are other dentists. Let’s see about within five miles of my house. Nope – not a single one. Within ten? Nope. Within 20? Nope. Within 50? Nope. Finally, what about within 100 miles? Nope. What is even worse is that the Anthem search feature doesn’t expand past 100 miles. I don’t know if there is any dentist in California that accepts my plan.

Perhaps if I fly to Sacramento or Modesto I can find a dentist that accepts my mandatory-policy kids. I wonder if, after the cost of airfare, a teeth cleaning will still be "affordable."

This is like the “free” outbuilding coverage on our homeowner’s policy that we all pay for even though we don’t have an outbuilding.

I don’t understand why California is so different on this from my state, WA. Here we are full of pediatric dental clinics and they all accept Medicaid. A great majority of their patients are Medicaid. One even has a full dental surgery practice. Alternatively you can always just take the Medicaid kids to a non-covered dentist, which you can’t do in the medical realm.

Part of that is because the legacy SCHIP program covered kids at relatively high income levels. I do have friends with kids on Medicaid in the north part of the state and they have to travel down to Everett to take one kid to the orthodontist.

A few years ago the Daily Telegraph, one of Britain's most respected newspapers, ran a story about Britain's dental services which, like their medical services, are run by the government. The piece said that many Brits were reduced to pulling their own teeth because they couldn't get an appointment with a government dentist.

With God as my Judge this is true!

My insurance - that my agent got for me, not through the frickin gvt website, is in Washington. It’s about $70 less/month for some reason. I had to go to the dermatologist so far and I didn’t even have a co-pay. Can’t figure that one out.

Not sure how I ended up being better off ....knock on wood...

I know that the Apple Health kids here sometimes get orthodontic treatment but I don’t know where.

Maybe it is because the medical providers with any sense are deserting California first. I’m sure ObaMao will solve the problem by allowing the importation of third world health care providers. < / sarcasm >

There is Medicaid insurance for orthodontists? Last I knew this was a non-insurance item, like plastic surgery.

In WA state there is. Don’t know how long that will last, with 70,000 new enrollees eligible under old Medicaid criteria which the state is liable for.

I’m sure ObaMao will solve the problem by allowing the importation of third world health care providers.

I'm guessing that he will force doctors or dentists to take those patients. As in if they except any insurance, they must accept all insurance.

And Congress won't even be asked to vote on it. It'll be just another regulation tweak. The end result will be the opposite of what's intended (as with most lib ideas). More doctors and dentists will stop taking insurance.

Can someone facing this problem - no local dentists on assigned plan - pay out of pocket for care to a dentist nearby?

I think part of the sick thrill of Obamacare for Pelosi and gang is watching the American People act like trained circus animals. Or she fancies herself as Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown.

How much is their regular dentist's cash price? Yeah, the cleanings are supposed to be covered, but that's not reality. Besides, like the coverage itself, would an actual Obamacare dentist or hygenist do what *you think* he's supposed to do? None in your area but maybe coming soon, from Pakistan.

Besides, he could just do what was the norm for years, just go once a year unless there is some problem.

I heard on the news about an Owebamacare network in Florida that added over 20,000 new Medicaid patients for each Doctor in that network!

I’m guessing that more Doctors will be refusing to participate in this fuster cluck in the near future.
