POLICE MEET GEORGIA PARENTS OUTSIDE SCHOOL FOR OPTING CHILDREN OUT OF STATE TEST
Breitbart ^ | April 17, 2014 | by DR. SUSAN BERRY

Posted on 04/17/2014 2:00:12 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

On Wednesday Tracy and Mary Finney of Marietta, Georgia were met by a police officer outside their children’s public school and informed they were trespassing on school property because they opposed the school’s process of testing all children.

The Finneys, whose children attend West Side Elementary School, had decided to opt their children out of Georgia’s state test, the CRCT.

~~~snip~~~~
Meg Norris, an organizer of United Opt-Out Georgia, told Breitbart News she is “shocked” at how the mandates to test children are being enforced in Georgia.
“It’s happening in schools all over Georgia,” Norris said. “Even children who are autistic must be tested.”
“Because of federal mandates, they are putting children through this,” she continued. “One child missed the first day of testing and the entire class was refused ice cream, leading to that child being bullied by his classmates.”
Norris explained that this year is the final year Georgia’s CRCT is to be used. Next year, the test is to be replaced by the Common Core-aligned PARCC assessment. “They say the CRCT was aligned with Common Core,” she added, “but I don’t see any evidence of that. As far as I can tell they’re teaching using the Common Core standards, but using the old CRCT to test the children.”
Norris, a former teacher, said she taught the Common Core standards for 18 months and could see what it was doing to her students. She added that Common Core has become a major issue in the elections this year.
“I just won’t vote for any politician who supports the Common Core standards,” she said.
When it comes down to it, I completely agree. We see it right on FR with people still defending RINOs and liberal GOP.
Can’t trust them so best forget them.
Everyone should have an attorney on speed-dial. I know many can’t afford it, but being able to get a good attorney on the phone to talk to the gestapo might nip these situations in the bud.
I totally believe these parents are within their rights to refuse having their children tested. However, I don’t believe the school should have to provide special accommodations for their kids while they’re not taking the test. I wouldn’t think the kids can just be left unattended during the hours of testing.
I have a PhD in Education. Curriculum and Assessment is an area I know about.
OK now that I have established my credentials I am going to express my professional opinion
I believe that any parent, anywhere regardless of location who sends their child to a public school is guilty of child abuse. This is not a religious thing because public schools are are just as bad for the non-religious as the religious. They are as bad for children of liberals as conservatives. Your kids are better off dropping out of high school, getting a GED and a job than graduating from a public school. Home school, private school, even a service like K12.com are better options.
I am not very welcome at education conferences
Yes, every Property Tax Theft bill I have ever seen is itemized. So just subtract that amount and send the rest in.
If you’ve every listened to Ron White, he will tell you that he was in debate in high school, but he didn’t last too long. When he didn’t have a counterpoint, seems he responded to a fellow debater with the words, “Weeelll, phuuuuuk yew!”
It’s ok, for MY children go to a GOOD public school. A school where they listen to the PARENTS and would NEVER dream of being mean to MY kids or not educating them. No, they answer to us, ONLY.
(how FReepers justify sending their kids to public school, even after all they read here)
My first thought also. Not the Cobb County I knew back in the 80s and 90s. That Cobb County would tell the state to pi$$ up a long rope.
Could you explain what Common Core is and what is wrong with it? I know most Conservatives don’t like it, but other than the tracking part, I know very little.
I’ll second that, I know very little about Common Core, except the math problems literally go like this:
If Linda has 3 apples, and Johnny has a dozen grapes, how many muffins will Mrs. Robbins have next week.
Tracy and Mary can tell anyone that they are ON the 'school' property BECAUSE they pay taxes.
I have friends and family with kids from 2-10.
Some of the stuff I see them post on Facebook about what their kids are learning is astounding, in all the wrong ways.
I keep saying how I have a horrid education, and had lame to bad experiences in school, but jeez, what they’re going through at the behest of the government takes the cake. And the worst part is, the kids haven’t a single clue how they’re being destroyed.
***************************
That’s always sounded so phony to me when the perps or suspects in an interrogation room on a TV crime show say, “I want my attorney now.” A lot of those folks have been working menial jobs and can’t afford criminal defense lawyers.
I’ve never had an attorney or a doctor I could call at a moment’s notice. Yet, TV ads and shows frequently tell us to call our doctor or our attorney for various reasons.
I’m 71 and still don’t have “a doctor” or a lawyer.
