Hero's welcome for pro-Russian forces as Ukrainians decamp

Slavyansk (Ukraine) (AFP) - It's a welcome more suited for rock stars and matinee idols, not necessarily black-masked soldiers in camouflage here to protect a rebellion.

"You're our heroes! We love you!" the crowd clamours, smartphones in hand to capture history in this eastern Ukrainian town of Slavyansk with a population of 140,000, pro-Moscow Russian speakers in their vast majority.

Slavyansk is now part of a Kiev-ruled Ukraine in name only. Since Saturday, pro-Russian insurgents have controlled every political lever in town: the town hall, the police station and even the secret service headquarters, taking any weapons still left for the taking.

Ukraine vowed to take the town back, and on Sunday deployed a significant loyalist force to do so. Two helicopters, dozens of light armoured vehicles and roughly 300 troops moved in as close as 40 kilometres (25 miles) from Slavyansk's city limits.

But the Ukraine troops moved no further. Their armoured vehicles were blocked by pro-Russian militants. Six vehicles were seized.

Now, in scenes reminiscent of the seizing of Crimea in March, soldiers without insignia roam the streets protecting a political breakaway that is sure to draw fierce criticism not only from the Ukrainian government, but from the international community as well.

"Now we are protected by the military and not just civilians," said Natalia Teslanko, 53. "Thank goodness the army has come to help us. If the Kiev soldiers come to fight them, we women will become human shields to protect them."

With only their eyes peering through black balaclavas, the soldiers are men of few words.

There were 5,000 Ukrainian patriots marching in the East today. I’ll also add that poll data, from multiple sources, showed heavy majorities opposing Russia. The Ukrainian government is being soft on the rebels, in a couple of towns it was the local population that had to push out the Seperatists.

Very true. In history, Nazi forces did indeed advance on Slavyansk. So yes, this is the 2nd time.

BS, otherwise the Kiev government would let them vote on joining Russia.

showed heavy majorities opposing Russia

Even if true, heavy majorities opposed separating from England during the start of the American Revolution. It doesn't matter though, if the majority sits on their butts and acts apathetic while the minority takes up arms and fights for their beliefs.

The great Soros/Obunga plan to take the Ukraine doesn’t seem to be going terribly well...

Yup, any government that progressives are for you should be against.
Any government they are against, you should be for.

It’s become an axiom....Egypt, Syria, Libya, Serbia...etc

If the choice is between two evil groups then the progressives will always opt for the worst of the lot.

It's the 30-40-30 rule. 30% wanted to stay with England, 30% wanted to be independent, and the lumpen 40% (the low-information sheeple) just wanted it to be over.

The East will be getting to vote on May 25th like everybody else. There are Pro-Russian candgidates and constitutional changes involved. The Polls I mentioned are legitimate. Not everyone is a bootlicking commie. Furthermore, Putin is not Washington. He is the figurehead of a country still in the grip of hidden soviet structures. There is no political or personal freedom in Russia. Ask the dead.

Don’t think those are the pix AFP furnished Yahoo. But those pastoral scenes Moyan did take along with Miletrtish’s copy will be flashed on every TV screen throughout Russia. It seems AFP reporters Nicky and Germaine were not able to find any locals that disagreed with their young Russian shock troop saviors. Course the Kremlin wouldn’t buy the AFP report or use it if they did.
So much for any “objective” report from AFP...RIA Novosty couldn’t do any better. Don’t forget AFP is French I think their headquarters is near the Montremart.

**************

You have no idea how right you are. Here are portions of Himmler’s own assessment:

“Up until the last battle, the division consisted not only of German soldiers, but also of Ukrainians from Galicia. These Ukrainians are soft inside and fickle, and lack much in comparison to fighting German soldiers.
The holding together and leadership of such men who are not used to war and lack hardness, and over and above that the carrying out of the most difficult orders in battle, such as those of the Brody pocket, requires the most of a responsible leader.
During the further continuation of the battle, numerous volunteers of the division fled due to their inner cowardice, and in some cases used weapons to threaten their leaders and NCO’s. During this crisis, it was again the decisive presence of the divisional commander, who was there in person to re-establish the situation by inflicting the required brutal measures against any whiners, that saved the situation.
[…]
Whenever the division was deployed in the focal point of the battle, and its success recognized and recorded, it can only be attributed to the service of the German leaders who were lead by their divisional commander.”

NATO, EU, Obama-Kerry and Soros are grappling with the same issues the Third Reich did before them in utilizing these proxy soldaten:

“Either the unit is reliable or it isn’t reliable.

At the moment I can’t even create new formations in Germany because I have no weapons. Therefore it is idiocy to give weapons to a Ukrainian division which is not completely reliable. I would much rathger take their weapons away and set up a new German division. I assume that it is outstandingly equipped, probably much better armed than most of the German divisions we are creating at the moment.”
-Adolf Hitler

Based on the foregoing, Himmler’s assessment in particular, the ein kinder, gentler Reich types in the West might be best advised to issue Maverick McCain a feldmutze, MP40, jack boots and stick grenades and put him in charge of the Svoboda freikorps.
